Which England player will let everyone down?

@horsechoker - Dude, you missed out Waddle and Pearce for their penalty misses in 1990.

Fun fact:

As soon as England lost that shootout there was the largest ever recorded drop in the national grid power demand as millions of televisions were suddenly turned off (or even destroyed in outrage)

The grid came under immense strain again a few minutes later as everybody turned their kettle on.

Also, Ince and Batty in 1998.
Phil Neville too

I've been worrying about what the abuse on social media is going to be like if someone does make a mistake that costs England

He’ll have to get on for a game where there’s something at stake first…

The media are hyping Harry and Shaw to death so probably one of them, unfortunately. The Shawback redemption…. Shudder
I think he will come on and then who knows..

I still fancy Walker or Stones to have a massive feck up. Only chances Germany had were down to them on their side.

If it goes to penalties I can see Pickford pulling a DDG and saving none of them.

Could actually be the fans/pundits/our media this time round.

We've basically been doing opponents teams talks for them with our attitudes (that question to Kasper was absolutely insane), if Denmark/Italy use that as extra motivation and come out and smash us then I can't say we weren't asking for it.
It’s hardly the first time the coverage of England has been extremely arrogant and lacking in self awareness. And imagine not the first time it had been used as motivation. Of course the same lack of self awareness would prevent those parties from seeing it themselves, so they’ll still look for someone to blame

Pickford must be the favourite but I could see someone like Rice getting tricked into a red card

Pickford's been well dodgy all tournament, even though he also made some good saves. Bailed out by the 10 players in front of him.

Well, since you're winning, nobody will be the scapegoat.

Hypothetically though, it would be: Maguire, Shaw or Pickford.

Central midfield consists of lower profile, smaller clubs players who aren't expected to set the world alight.

Sterling scored a bunch, so it would be 'we wouldn't have been here without him'. Kane is a darling who could deliberately score an OG and still be loved.

Walker always seems to escape vile criticism for his recovery track-backs and plays for City, Stones plays for City and goes under the radar all the time in recent times.

Mount could sit all day on the pitch and still be loved.

That leaves us with Shaw, Maguire and Pickford. Pickford is a goalie and has a recent history for being villyfied. Also isn't loved.

Shaw and Maguire are United players plus they're hyped this tournament despite playing like that for their clubs as well. The English love to underrate, then hype only to absolutely hammer after one game.

Or Sancho if he plays and has a poor game. 'waste of money' 'Southgate was right' etc.

Do you mean the 10 players in front of him have stopped the opposition from having shots on goal, and not allowing the opposition too many chances.

happy for them to keep bailing him out.

Sterling cheating to win a penalty was ignored so can’t see the media turning on him now.

This is not a slight on the 10 players outfield at all. They've all been brilliant in their own way. But if I were to pick one player to let us down, it would be Pickford.

That said, Pickford's not been too bad himself imo. It's just the others are playing better.

He had a couple of slightly poor licks in the semi, other than that he’s done everything right.

of course if we have to pick someone most likely to make a match defining mistake, it’s likely to be the keeper. No matter who he is.

Sterling is an easy pick. So is Grealish with his swagger and his haircut. The press would love to go after either of them.

I could also see it being a bad pass from Stones/Maguire or a red card from Shaw.

It won't be Kane. He's too boring for the press and plays for Spurs, he's been fairly shite in both recent tournaments but nobody says a thing.

Nah that’s nonsense. I don’t rate Pickford but he’s been superb the whole tournament up until the Denmark game where he looked like a deer in the headlights and clearly shat the bed. That’s still a massive concern for the final but we don’t need to make up some revisionist stuff about the rest of the tournament.

He was easily the best player on the pitch against Denmark though.
