Paul Pogba / turned down United offer of 300k as “nothing”

Using "simpleton" word to describe people who want Paul to stay when your club's midfield is Fred-McTominay with Matic and Pereira as subs. Well done.

Paul Pogba out of form and without desire to play is better than any our midfielder (except Bruno of course). Losing him would be disaster for our goals for next season

Point proven.

We definitely need a replacement, but we don't have to find another midfielder as good and all rounded as Pogba, because there's just isn't. But Sancho could replace Pogba in terms of his playmaking role, whereas the new DM would be an upgrade in defensive role.
I don't agree that Pogba is a well rounded player. He is poor defensively and I never quite trust him picking the ball up from deep as he has form for giving it away unnecessarily in a dangerous area. As good as he is offensively, as others have mentioned in this thread, he tends to tread on Bruno's toes, or at least they don't really compliment one another. If we are looking to be more attacking in a 433 this year, then a b2b midfielder would give us a better shape in my opinion. So we'd have Fred or McTom, b2b, Bruno, Sancho, Cavani, Rashford/Greenwood.

Ideally we upgrade on Fred/McTom as well, but if we end up with Sancho, Varane + a solid b2b midfielder I don't think anyone could complain. Camavinga maybe?

Pogba out and Saul in? Would be great if it happens

look at the players this board thinks would be appropriate replacements for Pogba. fecking Saul. Guy even said “would be great if it happens”. For feck’s sake. Do you people even watch football?

I do hope we sell him and bring in a replacement. I'm just so over the drama surrounding him. But we really need to replace him, not necessarily like for like. Just someone who brings balance like a Carrick type preferably.

As midfielder, he was quite well rounded. But he has been inconsistent for us and took too much risk at the back at times which makes his defending looks questionable.

During the peak of his power, he does have the kind of stats no other midfielders could match. For example:

Juventus 15-16: 2.9 dribble, 1.5 key pass, 2.2 tackle, 1.5 interception, 1.8 ariels, 7.81 avg rating
France 16 Euro: 2 dribble, 1.7 key pass, 2.4 tackle, 1.4 interception 1.4 ariels, 7.46 avg rating
France 18 WC: 1.3 dribble, 1.5 key pass, 2.2 tackle, 1 interception, 3.3 ariels, 7.49 avg rating
France 21 Euro: 2.3 dribble, 2 key pass, 2 tackle, 1 interception, 1.3 ariels, 7.64 avg rating

And lets compare him with best attacking midfielder (De Bruyne, Modric), and some of the best DM (Rice, Kante, Joginho, De Jong) from last season:

De Bruyne 20-21: 1.9 dribble, 3.2 key pass, 1.4 tackle, 0.4 interception, 0.2 Ariels, 7.65 avg rating
Rice 20-21: 0.9 dribble, 0.7 key pass, 1.8 tackle, 1.8 interception, 1.4 Ariels, 7.01 avg rating
Kante 20-21: 0.9 dribble, 0.7 key pass, 2.6 tackle, 2.2 interception, 0.6 Ariels, 6.86 avg rating
Joginho 20-21: 0.6 dribble, 0.9 key pass, 2 tackle, 1.4 interception, 0.6 Ariels, 6.88 avg rating
Modric 20-21: 1.3 dribble, 1.4 key pass, 1.1 tackle, 1.4 interception, 0.5 Ariels, 7.15 avg rating
De Jong 20-21: 1.6 dribbler, 1.3 key pass, 1.2 tackle, 1 interception, 1.1 Ariels, 7.13 avg rating

Its quite clear Pogba is by far more well rounded than any of them. Replace him (his peak form) would be near impossible. But we can have players to share his role. I agree Camavinga would be a good buy as his "defensive" replacement, given that we already have Sancho in our team to replace his "attacking/playmaking" role.

The club will cop a lot of flack if he walks on a free next summer but what can they do if he won't sign a new contract and no one wants to buy him? They're literally powerless in this situation

Wenger also copped a lot of flack in his later Arsenal years but he did predict years ago that more and more players would start moving on free transfers and so it seems to be
In the past, didn't Fergie had threaten to pretty much let some people "rot in the reserves"? Other clubs have done same. Not saying we should do this but it has happened

Get 50m for him and his 280k a week off the books then wave him goodbye I say.

He doesn't want to be here and he doesn't give his all for the club when he does play. Not only that but he can't even hold down a position in the team due to his own deficiencies and has to be played wide left.

Never has a player been more over rated than Pogba. He's got the natural talent to be a top player for sure but lacks so much else to do it. Attitude and effort being the main two.

I’d rather leave him go for free next year. We need him this season and gives us a whole year to get a plan together for next summer.
What's there to plan that we really need a full season for anyway? I think most on here are overrating his importance to the team a bit. We have Sancho now, Greenwood seems to have moved up a level and we should expect a fully healthy Rashford before the winter before we even think about Bruno. I think we just need to sign a DM and a young CM then continue with the pivot and an attacking quartet like we have been doing. Imo the impact of having Sancho in our team will be immense so to me beyong the front front four its just a matter of sorting out the balance issues in our double pivot which we can sort out by buying a DM who also possesses good passing ability and then have Fred/McT compete for the B2B role.

Yeah that is my thoughts as well but the club may see things very differently

There’s no way anyone buys him this summer when he’s free to sign in January (for a nominal fee or instantly in the summer). Also if I were Pogba I’d run my contract down too because that would be the sensible thing for him to do in that position to maximise his earnings and destination potential.

As fans we see everything with emotion but when you sign a player, all parties get in to that knowing full well that they are agreeing to a 4-6 yr deal. Nobody can cry if the player stays committed for the length of that agreement - they are sticking to the original terms. Similarly, no club should be criticised for “letting a player go” or running down a contract when it may have always been in the mind of the player to do so.

Youve only posted stats for Pogba playing for Juventus and France whereas youve posted premier league stats for the others. Pogba's performance level at United has very rarely reached those levels. We can certainly manage without the player that WE get which is a totally different level.

This version of Pogba rarely featured for us anyway.

The sooner we move on from Pogba the better

If PSG make any sort of reasonable offer - anything around 60m euros, we should definitely sell. Having him go into next season running down his contract with Raiola running his mouth every fart's end will be a circus.

Yeah that is my worry about him staying and running down the contract

Raiola gets a raging stiffy at the thought of screwing us over twice with Pogba by leaving again on a free.

I think PSG would need to offload a few players first before even being able to consider it. Are they even genuinely interested or is Raiola just feeding stories to the French media to keep his name out there?

The most likely outcome seems to be going back to Juventus on a free next season.

Am I missing something or is there no United data in here? Why are you comparing Pogba for France and Juve to all those players from EPL in 2021?

With Juventus and France, all Pogba needs to do is sweeping the ball off his opponents, as he had other hardworking midfielders putting the pressure and doing all the dirty work. So those defensive stats are biased.

Juventus are fecked financially and can't afford what Pogba and his greedy agent wants.

Am I missing something or is there no United data in here? Why are you comparing Pogba for France and Juve to all those players from EPL in 2021?
Because the relevant premier league stats fatally undermine his point.

Ending up leaving the same club twice on a free and going for the money and easiest time, instead of the club you've been saying it would be a 'dream' to play for to anyone who'd listen for 5 years...well kind of sums it up.

Well, if it's true...

Him leaving will probably lead to us sorting our misfiled finally. Might help VDB get into games and show the reason why we signed him. Would be sad for him to leave but his antics don’t help is. Get someone who wants to stay at the club rather then having his agent running mouth during every transfer. I’ll be happy with camavinga coming in to replace him.

Yeah certain he runs down the contract and we end up losing him on a free YET AGAIN

Sure that's how the world works innit.
The business bought him and used him. Depreciated the asset and all that.
Be nice to get a fee for him but if we don't so be it. We'll get the use of the asset for the duration of the original agreement

He was inconsistence for us where he is clearly not performing to his peak, but his overall stats is still not bad for us in some years:

16-17: 2.4 dribble, 1.9 key pass, 1.8 tackle, 1 interception, 2.8 Ariels, 7.72 avg rating
17-18: 2.8 dribble, 1.4 key pass, 1.2 tackle, 0.8 interception, 1.9 ariels, 7.48 avg rating

Hang on - does that gold medal mean they think that Samuel Luckhurst is tier 1 for United?

If so this guy can’t be trusted with his cnuting moon system or whatever system he uses.

Red flag.

I think the moon system was someone else, this blokes Tier 1 isn't actually Tier 1 for your normal person though

Mostly reliable is what he has luckhurst then I guess.

Which we know is bullshit.

He deserves wooden spoon level.

This is a big summer for Ole and it clearly started with getting Sancho deal over the line but now it has to be about resolving the future of Pogba.

PSG want him and Pogba wants to go back to France and get one final big paycheck. Yes, we will take a loss from when we bought him but that isn't unexpected given his age and contract situation.

If we get the €50m-60m expected, clearly not €80m as some speculate, that would be a very good piece of business. You move his salary off the books and you use that money to in essence purchase Varane.

OR you use Donny as part of a deal to lower the Varane cost which may allow us to bring in Trippier and a CM which based on all the links is Camavinga.

It's good business on our part, allows Pogba and Mino to get another pay day plus it may makes things easier next summer if we try to sign Haaland.

We will never get Haaland

The story tonight is Utd and Juventus have had meetings over Pogba and Van Der Beek with maybe Rabiot the other way?

Where are you getting the data from?
I don't think anyone would argue he had some good seasons, but showing the stats from 3 years ago is not going to convince the unconvinced.

Rabiot is fairly shite with a terrible attitude.

If dopes here call Pogba a virus and a problem I'm not sure how they would describe Rabiot
