Pogba's ridiculously talented and a joy to watch when he's on form...but I'd happily sell him for £50m if it meant we could go out and buy a two-way number 8 ala Saul, Aouar or Camavinga and a 6 in Rice, Neves or Locatelli (or similar players, those are just the ones we've been linked with most)

Any combo of those would give us much more balanced midfield options.

I don’t like him as a person or a player but it’s a depressing thought to see him leave before the likes of Lingard and Andreas. Who, if we did manage to sell, would probably raise the same amount of cash (combined) as what we’d get for Pogba.

look at the players this board thinks would be appropriate replacements for Pogba. fecking Saul. Guy even said “would be great if it happens”. For feck’s sake. Do you people even watch football?
Ball knowledge of this website is in the gutter. Hell certain posters have even claimed he has already been replaced by Sancho with their chests.

these views are not to be taken seriously

I think it would be best all round if PSG bought him from us for £50m. He's a wonderful talent but looking at the direction Solskjaer has taken with the signing of Fernandes, it would be in the best interests of both the club and player if we sold him IMO, and invested the money on someone who would be a better fit as both a #6 and a #8, offensively aswell as defensively.

but you'd have to do the same thing next season when pogba leaves on a free so let him go now and bring in guys instead of waiting a year to bed them into the club

we need to down a marker this season especially with Liverpool ageing up top, spudz wiht a new manager and arsenal a joke.

City, Chelsea and Leicester are investing wisely and heavily so we can't just sit around and wait until 2022 to make moves.
You want to lay down a marker and bed new players in at the same time?

My point was Varane and Sancho will be starters I presume so we should have a much stronger team than last year. If we sell Pogba we have to replace him and that replacement will be a starter too.

Im trying to minimize the changes needed to the starting lineup to give us maximum chance of winning.

Because the flip side is having to make that change this season when we are already looking to bed in 2 players (hopefully)
New players are bedding in every season. And at this rate we'll more likely than not be bedding in a new manager next summer as well.

Maguire, Bruno, Sancho, Shaw, Rashford... these are guys we know we can build a team around because they will all be here in 3 years time. Pogba has never been in that bracket for us and he never will be.

The smart move is ditching him now, getting some money for him, plus £16m saved on his wages this season. Reinvesting it all now on the right players. Sure we'll miss Pogba when we're 2-0 up against Newcastle and cruising and he's playing out of this world. But will we miss him when we go to Anfield, or Stamford Bridge, or even the Emirates and the King Power? Will we feck, he went missing in every one of those.

It would be a shame to see him go when you have talents like Sancho and Varane (possibly) coming into the team. I know that he really wanted to win at Manchester when he decided to come back and this is about as good of an opportunity as the club has had to contend in all of his time here.

God help this club if pogba leaves, you are crazy if you believe that he went missing in all those games xD

I stand by what I said before, great player but he won't be missed if he leaves. Replace him with a top notch DM and we won't even notice he's gone.

Disagree. We need a top notch DM with him still here. With him gone, we'd need another midfielder on top of a DM. Without that, you'll certainly notice he's gone.

I think if we don’t get an offer of 70mm or greater we won’t be selling Pogba this year. We are pushing a for some silverware and it will be nice to bring Pogba off the bench or have him fill in to give Bruno a rest (perhaps that 4-3-3 we’ve been hearing about). I just don’t see how 50mm is going to be enough to replace Pogba this year and I’d rather not buy another rotational player for midfield. Next year, we can buy a striker and marquee midfielder.

Pogba become a drama since he left Juve. Give Juve pogba back and his agent and they don’t mess around in Turin. This time the club will keep him for a decade or even more just like we did with Nedved.

Joke aside. Pogba needs to sort his head and tell his agent to chill out. In this business the player is bigger than the agent.

Pogba staying(and signing a new contract) would be the next best thing after addressing RW and CB positions with near world class players. That would actually be better than signing a new CM.

Pogba didn't get a chance to play with the very best to be honest. He was part of a team going through transitions and managerial merry go round. I'd be more than happy with our current transfers, Sancho and Varane if he's tied up for the next 4-5 years.

Great player the 20% of the time he feels like it, won't be missed for me. I hope we never deal with Raiola again, and make it known to current squad members that taking him on = A swift transfer out.

I was sort of bought into this narrative as well but don't think it's true. Even before we signed Bruno, Pogba was playing as an #8 with Pereira, Lingard etc ahead of him. We experimented with him at #10 a bit but that was never his position consistently.

If you remember, we scouted Bruno for the #10 role during the summer window but Ole wanted Maguire + AwB as a higher priority. Pogba's long term layoff that year meant our hand was forced and we bought a proper #10 and the rest as they say is history.

Pogba was tried as a #6/#8 in a deeper role but Solskjaer it seemed like was experimenting at the time. Only last season, Solskjaer favoured the McFred pairing in most big games in midfield.

So to me it seems like Solskjaer tried to fit Pogba into a double pivot with Fernandes in a advanced role and it didn't work. My personal opinion is that we should've targeted a specialist midfielder over Fernandes if the plan was to have a more balanced midfield with Pogba in it. As things stand, it would be best all round if we parted ways IMO, because I can't see how a midfield 3 containing both Pogba and Fernandes would provide a balance both offensively and defensively. We can sign the best DM in the game and I think we'd come a cropper against the top sides if we set up in such a way.

If we are unable to fit him in and he has ambitions to play elsewhere, selling him would on obviously be the best outcome. However, we can't undo our summer transfer business by weakening our midfield significantly and adding more quality is a must if Pogba leaves. We don't want to spend the whole of next watching limited players like Mctominay, Lingard etc light up OT.

I think he's been an #8 way more than he's been a #10 under Ole. If anything he experimented with Pogba @ #10 when we played 4-4-2 diamond / 5-3-2 pre-Bruno. Most of the games he played in the 4-2-3-1 were as a CM pivot. Maybe that was fine before Bruno came in because Lingard / Pereira both did their defensive work.

Agree that last season cemented McFred as a partnership in the big games and Pogba was only trusted at CM against the lesser sides.

So to me it seems like Solskjaer tried to fit Pogba into a double pivot with Fernandes in a advanced role and it didn't work. My personal opinion is that we should've targeted a specialist midfielder over Fernandes if the plan was to have a more balanced midfield with Pogba in it. Also agree that we should've targeted someone more balanced than Bruno if we wanted Pogba to be successful. The easy moulds for a midfield are Ball winner + Playmaker + Runner, so we'd have needed a proper DM (Kimmich, Casemiro, Fabinho types) and a playmaker (Thiago) to play alongside Pogba.

Maybe you're right. Dropping Pogba, replacing his creativity with Sancho and incremental upgrades over McFred (Goretzka, Saul, Camavinga etc.) is the way to go. I'm still not convinced that there isn't a tactical solution to the Bruno + Pogba problem. It might involve Bruno playing a bit deeper and not making as many runs in behind - City run two attacking mids this way. Maybe it's playing the Chelsea like 5-3-2. We'd have to drop an attacker (Rashford / Sancho / Cavani) for Pogba but it's doable.

In the exact same system Ole plays right now, it's hard to see how Pogba can ever fit in.

And where is Pogba embedded in current United side? I only hear how he doesn't perform because of the wrong partners in midfield.

Pogba is the player that unbalances the team, not the other way around.

Selling Pogba for £45m would be a hell of a deal for us.

That's right. The writing was on the wall when Bruno came and performed the way he did. At that time everyone assumed Pogba is gone but with Ole trying to play both of them, that became the default expectation.

It feels a bit like the Coutinho situation at Liverpool, where he was undoubtedly talented and it looked at first glance like a potential loss to them when he went to Barca, but in the end, it meant the entire team balanced out much better. In Liverpool's case it let them build a hard pressing, hard running midfield that gave free rein to their wingers and full-backs. Not saying we will definitely click in the same way, but there's no doubt that Pogba's style complicates things in our midfield.

Think Pogba had too many key moments last season for the whole "we wouldn't notice he's gone!" thing to make much sense personally, but I'd like to think with Sancho in and us buying another midfielder it wouldn't be too bad.

Hey maybe VDB might come good!

Sell Pogba to PSG, offer €50m and VDB to Barca for De Jong, keep Lingard. Job done.

If Pogba stays then our season will be ruined by the circus surrounding his imminent move elsewhere. He'll also make sure not to get injured thus we might expect him not to commit to tackles and to stay in the side line as much as possible. Not to forget that we'll look like proper idiots having lost the same player for free TWICE.

Thus 50m + salary spared is worth it. Let's get Camavigna and wrap this up as soon as possible.

Spot on really. You could potentially get Aouar and Camavinga for 60m euros, on much smaller wages that he is on currently - for a net outlay of about £3m. That way covering both #6 and offensive #8.

Aouar and Camavinga arriving with the Pogba money would be a great move imo.

I’m pretty indifferent to Pogba as a player, but it would worry me if him leaving meant that Van der Beek was going to start most/a lot more of games. He looks very much the wrong player at the wrong time. I’d love to be proven wrong but I don’t think he’ll be here at the start of next season.

Don't high hopes for that. If Pogba does go we need better players to rely on than VDB. We really should be signing a replacement.

What would be our midfield 3 if he goes?

Fred/McT
VDB
Bruno

??

Or would we expect to get a defensive midfielder in to make it:

New DM
VDB/Fred/McT
Bruno

?

This is very true.

If we are to mount a serious challenge for the title or legitimate progress in Europe it really does need the squad focused without distractions.

Don't get me wrong, what gets played out in the press isn't always the case of what goes on in the dressing room. Last year of his contract though and any genuine injury will be fresh meat to the journo's at every presser.

Part ways in an amicable way which I think Pogba will do. Get a decent fee for him and re-invest. No doubt he will shine like an utter diamond in that league.
