Which athlete had its sporting legacy cancelled? Even OJ Simpson's sporting legacy is still acknowledged by some who separate OJ the athlete from OJ the accused.
perhaps not cancelled but at the very least the sporting greatness excuses the domestic violence for some athletes but not for others. and of course its a generational thing as well, as attitudes to the seriousness of misogyny changing.

The point i was making is that his infidelity doesn't automatically make him guilty in this case like a lot of posters seem to have made him.

Who!? Name names, quote posts.

Infidelity within family circle is probably alot more common than any of us would like to admit

It is!?

and although not being something I would partake in I suspect we all know of someone who has been involved in something similar.

We do!?
The Giggs defence brigade keeps saying a large chunk of the posters here assume he's guilty, yet when pressed on giving examples. POOF. They vanish.

Think Eric Harrison had a bit of influence on him too.

His life going to shit is down to him and not taking responsibility or getting help
I am not arguing that mate.

However think about. Giggs is a Dr Jekyll and a Mr Hyde. Off the pitch he was a horrible human being but on the pitch he was a top professional. He kept himself fit, he took good care of himself and he gave his all. Why would that happen? I believe it was down to the gaffer. I met Sir Alex multiple times and he has a way with people like a father would. That's something Ryan probably needed and he craved for.

Retirement is hard on any player but Ryan must have felt it twice. He lost both his career and the only father figure he knew.

I'd say losing his mum probably had the most traumatic effect.

On SAF, it can't be said often enough what a gift he had with people and getting the best out of them.

Hitler liked dogs and painting, why don't people acknowledge that instead of just focusing on his genocidal evil madness.
I'm not sure it's entirely relevant bringing Hitler into a discussion about a former professional footballers minor (by comparision) alleged crimes.

I was just making a point that we all have flaws no matter how talented we are, and that it shouldn't come as some sort of surprise that talented footballers sometimes find themselves in hot water thanks to some personalty flaws.

I guess most people consider domestic violence more than serious than a mere 'personality flaw'.

The morality and behaviour issue are more to do with his infidelity with his brothers wife, which is petty poor but hardly the crime of the century, infact its not even a criminal act and it takes two consenting adults.

The point i was making is that his infidelity doesn't automatically make him guilty in this case like a lot of posters seem to have made him. The alleged violence and abuse is a different matter altogether.
Er....no.

Shagging your relatives wife is pretty fecked up everywhere else in society. It is a big deal. Obviously we're not all saints, but at this point it can be safe to say he's a fecking scum of a human being

Well I've not read all of it but he head butted her sister, kicked his gf in the back and threw her out naked in a hotel room?
I do hope their is pictures of the bruising left from the assault, sounds abit like when your mum would kick you in your backside to get you to move.
I'm guessing there is also camera footage of his gf walking around naked when he threw her out.
As for the blocking her or telling her to leave when she questions him about flirting, well that's how every girl reacts, just on the other foot now,
Wow... just... wow....

Why would anyone even defend him is beyond me. Just because he was a great player doesn't mean we should ignore the fact he's an absolute scumbag as a human, and no, shagging your brother's wife isn't just a personality flaw.

I'm gonna put this in simple terms for you, Ryan giggs has neither been proven innocent or guilty of the alleged crimes.

Domestic violence is most certainly more than just a personality flaw but as it stands Ryan giggs is innocent until proven guilty. And his obvious personality flaws don't necessarily guarantee his guilt.

Sincerely hope it isn’t true, but if it is there’s no two ways around it he has the face the punishment.

It’s hard watching your idols end up like this but Ryan Giggs the player should have no bearing on your opinion of Ryan Giggs the person. He’s evidently a bit of a twat, and potentially criminally abusive.

It's not defending him by saying being an adulterer doesn't make you any more likely of being a violent criminal.

You sure it wasn't constant sex life that made him fit?

Sure it made him fit, but what a toxic shagging life he had.

Has anything been proven yet? In no way defending him, but surely the case of Depp and Heard has at least taught people to acknowledge that you are innocent until proven guilty?

He has already made some, unforgivable to most, acts that has tarnished his image to people but the act off adultery in no way can be evidence to use in support of these accusations?

Did you even read my post you quoted?

I said: "99% of people on here understand the presumption of innocence". They're just not surprised he would be accused of something like this. Very few people, if any, are insinuating he's guilty because he's done scummy shit before. Did you even read the thread?

Why wouldn't you sleep with your brother's wife? Because it's wrong? In that case, it would be weird to not have a judgement about it. If it's for some other reason, like she's not your type/she's not fit/whatever, then you reasoning would make sense. Or are your morals solely guided by the legality of things?
I did.

Your percentage is off, it isn't 99%. But regardless, if the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it.

I wouldn't sleep with my brother's wife because I cherish the relationship I have with him, and I cherish the relationship he has with his wife, and I wouldn't want to do anything that got in the way of either of those.

But that's just me. Having that stance doesn't mean I have to say "ewww" every time I see Giggs' face on the TV. And it certainly doesn't mean that I lean any more towards the possibility that Giggs is guilty of a violent crime. I just wait for the trial to finish.

But that's just me, eh?

The double standard because he happens to be good at football and plays for United.

If this is a Trump supporter or just a random bloke, we won't even give him the courtesy of "hey, let's wait till the trial finished"

I can't believe people still defend Giggs, whatever happens in this trial doesn't erase the fact that he's a scumbag of a human being in my book.

Isolated adultery is fairly common for a variety of reasons, not all of them makes you a shitty person.

Having an affair with your brothers wife for 8 years goes beyond adultery, it speaks to the moral character of the man. Something akin to a jellyfish, or a venomous spider

It's not illegal, nor is it directly connected to violent assault. The only thing its good for is to put his character into perspective, and affecting his statement reliability.

In short: Giggsy, is a bit of a tit.

Why are people mentioning his mother? She was alive until recently. Rhordi mentioned her in an interview not too long a go. Is she even dead?

Just some of the actions like kicking someone in the back and locking them out of the hotel room naked. They're not rational behaviours. Giggs has no history of violent behaviour as a player, we watched him play for years. I don't think he ever lashed out once. It all sounds a bit like coke related behaviour to be honest.
Not comparing him to a serial killer but just to point out the flaw in your comment. Ted Bundy, and indeed many other serial killers, were/are highly charismatic people who until they are caught showed no signs of being capable of what they were convicted of, they are often very likeable, same also applies to fraudsters who have no issue stealing a pensioners life saving.

If abusers committed their acts of violence in public they’d not be around to abuse their victims for very long.

There is a public face & a private face.

Too many people on this forum think they ‘know’ players based on 90 minutes running around once or twice a week & some heavily doctored interviews we see or read.

Giggs didn't retire as a clueless 20 something, he retired at 40, as the most decorated footballer in PL history, with a long and successful career for 20 yrs, he went into coaching right after retirement, did a lot of punditry work after his stint as LVG assistant and he landed the Wales job, it's not like he fell into unemployment after retiring. after certain time, you shouldn't need a father figure like to be on the straight and narrow

Best gets the same double standards. You can say, yeah he was great at football, but he was an alcoholic and a domestic abuser. By all accounts a total prick and a terrible person. I have zero respect for him, but at the same time it doesn't detract from how good he was at football.

If all this is proven to be true, then I'll say the same for Giggs.

I find it hard to watch anything of Giggs playing for us now. He has really soured his reputation for me and it's almost unreal to me how excited i was to watch him play at his peak and to see walk out as our Manager after Moyes was sacked

The context of Best is entirely different.

Very naive of this lady to think she was going to have a committed spiritual union with Giggsy.

The likes of Italians and Brazilian footballers get to have as many birds they want, whenever they want, and it's kind of accepted by the girlfriends and wives.

I'll always defend Giggs. Yes he boned his brothers missus for years, but he had already been dating her before his brother got his hands on her. So his brother decided to marry a bird who his famous sibling had already been shagging for years. That's not a wise move and smacks of insecurity from Rodri. Anyways a lot of famous athletes are sexaholics. Comes with the territory. Very easy to judge them when you're a bloke who doesn't exactly have women hanging out of you.

You're one of the select few capable of understanding the presumption of innocence. Got it.

Still waiting on a single example of someone assuming he's guilty.

Anyone from the Giggs Defence Brigade feel free to chip in and help your buddy here.

I don’t know how the mods view this thread and it’s various contributions, but clearly - at this stage - what we have are a set of allegations. You can think what you like about Ryan Giggs. But he deserves the chance to answer in court to these serious charges. There’s still an awful lot we don’t know.

Personally, I separate the man from the athlete entirely. I have no qualms with people calling Maradona the greatest of all time despite the fact that he was a cnut off the pitch, because his footballing ability warrants it.
