Grealish is class and I'm certain he'll be brilliant for City in and of himself, though they'll have to strike a balance in the team overall.

100m is what I'd have expected them to pay in a normal year. Seems steep in a pandemic year.

Funny before we signed Sancho, general consensus here is Grealish being better player over past 1-2 years. And during Euro this year, people in England all wants the team to be build around Grealish, funny how things have changed here after we'e signed Sancho and City linking up with Grealish. I mean, Sancho could have a higher ceiling in future as he is younger, but Grealish has been rated higher and more of special playe in recent year.
Past 1-2 years? Not a chance.

Last season? Yeah, Sancho was poor first half of the season, Grealish was POTS candidate. Second half Grealish was injured and when he came back he was good but Sancho had insane second half of the season.

Sancho has proven himself at a higher level than Grealish has. That's indisputable. Grealish has yet to play cl football. Has yet to play for a team that's top four in the highest domestic league. Sancho has been more productive in terms of goals and assists over the past two seasons so I am struggling to see by what metric Grealish is 'more of a special player' other than you prefer the way he plays
Sancho at CL has not been a 85 million pound player for me.

There are some metric showing Grealish is by far the best in Europe in terms of ball progression (carrying the ball forward), as someone post it here before. Sancho is a great player don't get me wrong, as I personally prefer Sancho as he is younger, very talented and plays on the right. But then Grealish is one of the very few players who is able to carrying his team on his own. In terms of productivity, PL and BL just isn't comparable.
Grealish is equally as good. Both are at 98-99 percentile. Only difference is someone posted Grealish stats and Sancho's wasn't.

He is clear favourite because he has been linking to us strongly, and he could also fill in our RW role, which has been our main weakness.
Grealish is at least as popular as Sancho in Redcafe, even though he has never been really linked to us.

Again, you just can't compare G/A stats directly between PL and BL. They could be night and day difference. For example, Werner has 28 goals in 34 games in BL in 2019-2020, he only has 6 goals in 35 games in PL in 2020-2021. It's just not comparable.
I just don't agree with PL argument. How many players are blowing Bundesliga apart like Sancho?

Considering you are comparing PL stats, Grealish stat isn't that impressive either. 15 goals and 19 assist in last 3 season. 34 G/A in 95 games. Greenwood has 20 in 65 games and Greenwood played a lot of games from bench and is still 19. Gave Greenwood number because you don't consider BL number. But just for comparison, Sancho has 89 G/A in 105 games.

5 goals and 6 assist in 21 games in Champions League for Sancho. Is that acceptable level?

You guys need to remember that money is not an issue for City. The price is irrelevant
For my point, I was talking more about from our point. Say if we wanted to sell Pogba and purchase Grealish, would it be worth it for £100m? That'd be a no from me.

I don't think he will have as big an impact as people on here are suggesting. It's not like City didn't have decent players before him. So while he might be a step up, it won't be as big a step up relatively. 100M is a lot of money for that.

What this means for us is that we need to have a great season to get the title. If we get a DM, I think it is possible. You can only field 11 players in a game after all.

Wow, the disrespect Sancho is getting from some is in here is crazy. Clearly they're just going off of watching him play for England.

There is a reason why the players wanted Grealish over Sancho. Ideally we should have overspent and gotten both because Grealish is clearly a Utd player while Sancho is a big gamble.

Sancho is brilliant but Grealish elevates the whole team.
So you’ve spoken to the players personally?

Sancho has been playing UCL for 3 years btw, he isn’t Dan James.

You can't buy every world class player available. We wanted Sancho. Got him. Can't pay this much for Grealish. Move on.

Only time will tell if one or both work out well. Till then there's really just utter childishness to think that we missed a trick here

We will have to wait and see how Sancho performs in PL to understand how good he actually is in terms of productivity. What I am saying is, its easier for attackers to get higher stats in BL as most teams are playing with higher defence line as compared to those teams sitting back and defend in PL. Of course there are players who could shine in any leagues too, whether Sancho is one of those remain to be seen.

You’re actually comparing Bundesliga and one of the few really top teams there with Aston Villa and EPL.

Again I would love to be proven wrong and I understand the backlash. But clearly we should have stopped City getting him regardless of the price. They have strengthened more on top of a title winning side.

They have a sure deal in Grealish as compared to us with Sancho.
Last time we concentrated on stopping city from getting Sanchez rather addressing our right side whilst Martial and Rashford were doing well in the position Sanchez plays in. It took us more years to finally get an rw. Let's concentrate on getting the players we need not want. We needed a rw, we needed a CB and we need a dm. Let's not forget that we signed Carrick in 2006 whilst Chelsea signed Shevchenko and Ballack.

I don't think any player switching from one English club to another is going to be cheap, if anything its mainly the English who can spend right now in the market.

If I was a manager I think I’d rather Sancho than Grealish. Purely because you want your attackers to register goals and assists and for all Grealish’s positives, his production isn’t as high as Sancho.

I would have absolutely loved to have had Grealish pulling on the red shirt at Old Trafford though. I think if SAF was still manager he would have signed him a couple of years ago.

Let them have him. £100m is a big price to pay for someone they don’t need and who isn’t a particularly big upgrade on what they have. Grealish is the kind of player who excels in being the star of the show, the centre of the team. He won’t be that at City.

If Aston Villa had been relegated in 2020, I truly believe we would have signed Grealish that summer. And with him in our team, who knows what we could have accomplished? The world of football may have looked a very different place to the one we're currently discussing.
Are City signing a Maradona-Pele hybrid. . .

Feck me, calm down people. He’s a top player but you’d think the lad invented the game judging by the comments in this thread.

He’s a good player & he’ll be a good one for City but we can’t buy everyone; the chance was there last summer to invest in multiple players or one & the club chose VdB & co. it happens.

Rated higher in England by the media and fans who see him play regularly in England. Bundesliga fans also rate Sancho very highly. Anyway what matters is what they do for their new teams.

Apparently PL is lot tougher leaguer than BL, but Sancho is also younger. We will have to wait and see how they both perform for top teams in PL to get a better picture.

Gundogan highest goal tally in BL is 3, while at City it's 13, so I don't think these are always good arguments. Its true people are looking at Sancho stats and wanking off, ultimately, now Sancho is coming to a different team, chemistry, adjustments, style will be a little different, he's also one of the biggest signing this summer and for the club, expectation/pressure will be high.

Both are simply different players one is a ball carry, creative and dribbles, while the other moves the ball well, dribbles and puts in the G+A. They both are capable of coexisting on one team, don't know why people are having these arguments.

That’s the key thing people are missing here.

What Sancho has been doing from 18 is truly remarkable. Grealish is a top player in his own right but what Sancho has done isn’t normal, foreign country, outlandish stats.

He will bring them unprecedented success both on and off the pitch.
 Get a grip. They already have some of the best players on the planet like KDB and Dias who couldn't bring them "unprecedented success", how is Jack Grealish going to be the difference maker here?

Also having an undercut and an Alice band doesn't automatically make you David Beckham. "Off the pitch" success, give me a break.

It means nothing. Player development and progression is not linear.

Ronaldinho spent his early career at midtable Gremio and PSG.
Ronaldinho was already at Barcelona by age 23. At the same age Grealish was getting 8 G/A in the championship. I hate this "players develop at different rates" argument. It's invariably used to make excuses for lesser players.

Honestly, I'm so sick of the overrating going on in here that I'm starting to reflexively hate Grealish's face, socks, and dumb hair. Please go to City so I never have to hear this pitiful stuff again.

You are comparing goal stats of CM who is 6 season apart, which is irrelevant stat for CM anyway. I am comparing goals stats of forward in 1 season apart, which is most relevant stat. Not even the same thing.

The only time he was an attractive buy was a season ago when he was about £60m player and Sancho would only be obtainable for double that.

Now that Sancho has been signed for considerably cheaper, it's laughable that people want us to spend £100m on an interior player while we've already got 2 players better for the left wing and 1 better for the #10 spot.

Thing is, 100m is simply a drop in the ocean. It has absolutely zero effect on anything else they do.
feck the people who allowed football to have state ownership, cnuts.
Do you really think they will also spend £150m on Kane now? Genuine question.

The point remains, you're implying putting up these numbers in the BL compared to PL is much easier, when we've seen the opposite of this as well irrespective of position. If you want to go down this path KdB is a good measurement, had the highest assist record in BL until Muller (19 or 20) recently broke and is jointed highest in the PL (20). Ultimately I don't disagree with what your saying, if a player like Foden/Grealish joined Dortmund they'd probably put up good numbers, because Dortmund are a great attacking unit, Dembele is another example when he had 10 goals and 22 assists in one season there.

Are we talking about the same Grealish who's scored a grand total of FIFTEEN PL GOALS IN NINTY SIX PL GAMES at 26yrs old is worth ONE HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS????!!!!! And this is in a Villa team where EVERYTHING goes through him. Sancho in less than 2 seasons surpassed that goal tally and he was below 20.
The PL is harder than the Bundesliga but it's absolute BOBBINS to suggest Grealish is a "much better" signing than Sancho who's not just proven in the CL but has set records in Germany being the youngest player to score 30 BL goals(before Haaland) the ONLY Bundesliga player since 06/07 to hit 15+ goals and 15+ assists in a single season and he's just 21. Even attribute wise the only thing Grealish *probably is better at is ball carrying and the gap is marginal. Sancho is a better goal scorer, better chance creator, more versatile and more of a team player

I think as always with City, it’s a matter of perception.
They desperately want to be perceived as doing it fair and being on a level playing field. 250m is absolutely nothing to them, but doing it on two players goes against the “we can’t afford it” message their PR machine always wants Pep to push.
If they’d won the Champions League I 100% think that they would splash whatever it took and basically say that they made so much money from winning it and new sponsors.
So, I think they could no problem, but I think they’ll wanna sell some players first for big money to change the perception of the Kane signing. I think they are trying to Grealish first so that they can then flog a winger for bigish money before then returning for Kane.

Both are quality players. I'm a big fan of Grealish but ecstatic we got Sancho because we lacked this type of player in the team for years.

I also believe we have a couple of young players who could give us similar qualities to them in 2 or 3 years, it's a gamble but the reward of seeing them both reach their potential will be very high.

He's doomed before even kicking a ball for us. Pretty sad.
Last few seasons he has been my fav player to watch bar Messi. I literally much preferred Sancho to Haaland when it comes to actual football.

His form dipped for like 5 months after an incredible season the year before and suddenly he was rubbish to some haha

Ended the season again been their best player and will probably become our best player in time too.

City don’t care about money so whatever Grealish costs doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. He will struggle to make their first 11 I think long term. I don’t think he is as talented as Mahrez for example.

At least this “we’re not in the habit of spending big money, only £60m a piece on four defenders (whatevs)" narrative will stop. They have financial clout and will use it. Losing the European Cup Final has stung them into action. Sad to see Grealish at City, but it is what it is.
