Like what happened with Sahin and even Gotze. Klopp made them look better than they were.

Wasn’t Moyes fault in particular, he wasn’t great under Fergie either.

United happened. That's all.

His career went down hill because he made the wrong move to us.

He's been playing a more or less full seasons since 2007. Seems a typical example of a player that peaked early and maintained a similar level for most of about 10 years (but not suited to all systems so you get the united spell in there) before declining and becoming more injury prone, resulting in being washed up by about 30. His last seasons at Dortmund seem the turning point and he's getting injured a lot.

Always seemed to me to be a technically very able supporting player, but physically limited and not the kind of mentality to play as the main or sole orchestrator of a team. So never going to comfortably walk into whatever team he goes for at a high level and will show a quite different level depending on the setup and chemistry with players around him.

Probably hit his peak early, and his final years at Dortmund is his very last moments at the top of his powers.

He came to us still in his prime though, but came at the wrong time.

But there is no doubt that Kagawa is the most successful Japanese player ever, not too shabby.

Son however, is the greatest Asian player ever.

Isn't Park the greatest Asian player?

Is he a party boy?

he was very much a system player. I was convinced he was going to come in and wed change to a modern pressing style with a technical #10. out to the right with you!
I think this was the original plan. Then we signed RVP, and the rest as they say is history.

The CL is a glorified FA Cup set to music

Another casualty of our club being completely useless at creating offensive systems that get the best out of our personnel. 7 years later we wonder why Pogba... You know what never mind.

Van Persie transfer kind of got in his way. Once we signed RVP, we didn’t really have a space for him in the team. Did well, not excellent but passable, his first season regardless, but then Fergie left. Dunno what happened after that.
It was not because of the Van Persie transfer. The plan of Fergie was to play Van Persie as the spear point, and have Kagawa playing in the hole behind him while moving Rooney on (May be to Chelsea) when we still could fetch a good price. Mourinho in 2013 would have taken Rooney without hesitation. Then Moyes arrived and screwed the play by keeping Rooney with a massive contract while letting Kagawa stagnant.

I guess he was another system player.

Quite a few of those at Dortmund through the years.

Gundogan, Lewandowski, Auba, maybe Hummels have proved they aren't

I think the plan was to sell Rooney and let him play behind RVP / a new signing
No, RVP becoming available came out of nowhere. Fergie even said that he couldn't believe it at the time and had no choice but to go for it, regardless of what he previously had planned. Fergie always loved his strikers, but no manager in the world would have said no to RVP.

Fergie signing Kagawa was an example of him adjusting to the times(like he did many times before). We had been screaming for creativity in midfield for 2-3 years. The Kagawa + Rooney combination looked great in theory(and in practice the few times we played it, if I'm not mistaken). It was a much better combination than Kagawa + RVP, imo.

Seeing as Kagawa got past it already at age 28-29, I don't think he'd ever become a world beater. I do think he could have worked out quite well for us if Fergie had stayed another year or two, but we'll never know. He certainly didn't work out under Moyes, but then again so did no one else

Minamino reminds me of washed up Kagawa. Fur coat and no substance.

He was overrated on here almost as much as Klopp is now.

“He only played well because he was with Klopp” is the kind of vomit-inducing shite that I didn’t need to read on a Saturday night.

I felt sorry the likes of him, rvp and zaha, all signed under the idea that they would be playing their future's under a genius like fergie but quickly ended up playing under moyes and a temperamental manager in van gaal that had seen his best days behind him in the early 2000's.

It look like had fergie stayed Rooney would have been shown the door and kagawa would play as 10/second striker behind rvp.

He should join a team lower down in the Bundesliga, he was sensational there. His brain always seemed ahead of the others - those passes to Lewandowski

Random bump but I was at Bohs vs. PAOK tonight in the Europa Conference League. Kagawa was playing for PAOK and was absolutely anonymous, substituted off early in the second half as PAOK lost 2-1 in an upset.

I think Fergie’s plan was to eventually get rid of Rooney when he was signing Kagawa. What I don’t get is if Fergie liked their football why didn’t we go for Klopp instead of Moyes in 2013. Fergie could have sold it to him.
Yeah if he had stayed on for another season Rooney most definitely would've been moved on. And we apparently did speak to Klopp but he wasn't interested in leaving Dortmund. We also spoke to him again in 2014.

His 1st season, albeit wasn’t amazing, was decent enough. Certainly some promising signs and could easily be forgiven for adjusting to new league etc…

Like so many, never progressed post Ferguson and then never found his form again after he left the club.

There was unquestionably a good player there at some stage though

Sad how sharply he declined. He was a lot of fun to watch on his day. Not just a "system player" either, as he was generally good (and often better) for the national team before he joined us.
