Can he come here and score more than Ronaldo's 84 goals here?

I'd say he can.

Might tempt him.. would seriously p1ss off Ronnie!

He's going to be looking for a 5 year deal, let PSG have 'im.
A 5 year deal where he only plays 2 but gets paid for 5 no less.

feck him, nobody should treat their club like that. I couldn’t care less what “Messi earns Barcelona”, Barcelona made Messi.

Even as a short term signing Utd should be all over this, he would obviously elevate the team and what a player to aspire to learn from for Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho, then there is the enormous commercial aspect, Utd shirts with Messi on the back would go through the roof whatever the price, unlikely to happen, but surely the powerbrokers at the club should be weighing up the feasibility of it.

He's said to bring in around 30 percent of Barcelona's entire revenue. His marketability is so insane that his wages are a sound investment rather than expenditure.

If we can get him we absolutely should. Would be a statement signing if there ever was one. And he's still so good that no other signing would improve us more.
We should at least make him a serious offer, the money's there if we offload Pogba and other dead wood and for a player like Messi breaking the wage barrier shouldnt be a problem, especially as we were/are prepared to offer Pogba even more to stay, so if thats the yardstick its a no brainer, get Messi.

For a player like Messi, you create the budget.

Budget aside, has anyone seen much of him? Is he any good?

Break our wage structure and piss off every player … great! No thanks

As SAF would have said, “ he’ll have to accept what he’s given and play in the reserves to prove his fitness first!” This is a big club.”

Every player at the club would love to play with Messi. The wage structure wouldn't change in terms of the rest of the squad, everyone knows Messi is a unique talent.

I don't think he'll want to play in the PL though. He doesn't work hard in a far easier league. PSG will appeal to him for a number of reasons.

I’m a big big fan of Messi. He is the player off all time. But…. Even if we have budget, I don’t want him in United. How satisfying is it to win PL with Messi? Too much quick fix PSG style for my taste.

Again as it was the last time this was brought up at the beginning of the summer, anyone who says they wouldn't want Messi here for any sort of footballing reason is absolutely delusional. He would instantly make us league favorites, and make a mockery of those "tough low block sides" like Burnley.

Never going to happen, but let's not act like we should be refusing him .

The feck do you guys want a player that wants 1.6m/pw????? He will ruin us plus he has lost his physical prowess. Let him go to PSG.

Every player would love to play with him but he’s not the force he was. Paying him way above every player would be disruptive.

We live in different times sadly, money is the key not club loyalty

Can't have it both ways then where you complain about not winning a trophy in 4 years while the club fully rebuilds and then refuse to have Lionel fecking Messi in your side.

Financially I feel like we could probably make it happen (or at least meet whatever he ends up going for). I don't think we have the clout for it though. He's 34, we don't have any Argentines or ex Barca players or some random people that are friends with Messi to lure him over. Ole has done well but let's not pretend like he'd be a draw for Messi as manager. We've been shit on a European football level since Sir Alex retired (even if we're on the up). And it's Manchester compared to living in Barcelona his whole life, while being able to hand pick wherever he wants. City with their success and Pep are easily ahead of us, but PSG is the easy favorite overall IMO.

Aren’t we trying to offload Lingard so we can sign Trippier? I don’t think we’ll even sniff at it.

I'm interested in these many reasons.
Language problems, No connection to South American culture, No experience of winning trophies, all english assistant managers, lack of experience managing big players… etc.

There's a big difference between having a plan with a budget, and being able to raise funds when required.

That's not to say that we will of course, but that it's certainly possible should the owners be sufficiently motivated.

We don't even really know what sort of wage he'll want. A huge signing on bonus could negate the need for obscene wages. Either way, he's still one of, if not the best player in the world. I think we're on course to go for Haaland next summer so it wouldn't make much sense. But Messi is the greatest player ever. He'd still come in and be our best player.

No. If we did, we should buy someone else.
