Just me that thinks this will just make PSG a worse team in general?

They’re going to be so unbalanced and Ramos is going to be so exposed at times.

There may have been other interest, but as far as I’m aware PSG were the only Club to put a formal package offer on the table

The new seasons about to start…..what’s Messi supposed to do? Sit and wait?
He should have moved to Aston Villa obviously, after all Grealish's spot is vacated.

Thing is even if he did that, I'm sure somebody would still find a reason to complain. Can't win basically.

People laughed in the other thread but I genuinely would of much preferred to have seen him at like a Spurs or Arsenal - what kind of difference would he make to a team like that at the moment. Even an AC Milan or United who it’s going close to 10 years without a domestic title. Going to PSG is just meh even if he wins the Champions League.

It's interesting because players are criticized when they don't move to a better team because they allegedly fear competition, they are criticized when they move to better teams because they lack loyalty or shy away from challenge, they are laughed at when they don't maximize their revenues and are called dummies, they are also criticized when they do maximize their revenues because they are greedy.

Basically if a player doesn't join your club, he has a character flaw.
Pretty much spot on. People will always find a reason to question a decision or downplay a players success. Ironically, I don't think people would really question Messi if he had gone to the US or Argentina at age 34, even though they are much weaker leagues and not playing CL - that would somehow be seen as trying something new or returning home.

For the upcoming season, I feel like it will be fairly simple for Messi:
- Win neither league or CL = Failure
- Win league = Lived up to expectations
- Win CL = Above expectations / Adding to legacy

French league is too weak for it to matter but I think they'll get exposed at the sharp end of the CL, much like Barca have been in recent years.

No matter how good he is on the field, he certainly lacks decision-making skills off the field. Ronaldo made better decisions and winning a CL with Juventus looks farfetched but if he does, there is no looking back for him.

Actually saddens me a bit towards Messi. All about the money. Earned astronomical wages at Barca and now they are in a financial mess he wouldnt drop to an average wage to see out his career there and instead goes to the oil money club in the French league because they offer the most money
I think so many people are not aware that Messi was not allowed to play for free or for much less. There is a clause in the Spanish employment law that wouldn't allow him to take anything more than a 50% pay cut. So the least amount his next contract for Barca was £25m, half of the £50m he was on previously. And that £25m salary means Barca would not be able to register him as he takes them over their budget

If he'd gone there at 29/30 then the digs about the weaker league would be fair, but at 34 I don't blame him for going to PSG given their chances of winning the CL.

His legacy is already cemented and the weird agenda that it only counts if he does it in the PL is nonsense.
Messi could have retired at 25 and would be up there with the greatest. He's kept an insane level since then all the way up to 34. Guy has nothing to prove. Frontrunner to win a 7th Ballon D'or as well.

Chose the easy way out. Hardly surprising. Boring end to his career

I meant more in the CL to be fair yeah. Neymar, Mbappe and Messi not tracking back will give so many chances to other teams.

Don’t get why they are being suddenly talked up as dead certs for the CL. It makes them less likely to win it IMO.

Thinking about Hakimi too, he’s basically a winger and will get torn apart by teams in the counter.

Then you'll have grandpa Ramos and his wobby legs committing professional fouls left, right and centre.

Maybe poch if he has brain will give Neymar and Mbappe some defensive duties.

This is the sort of money you need to spend if you're going to wrestle the title away from the likes of Lille.

I think Messi is the best ever, but this move is boring. Nobody cares about the French league, the other teams are gash.

Would have gone to City, who has every chance of amassing another mammoth 90-100 points in the league, and he’d get discredited there as well.

Personally would have loved to see him in the EPL though.

How is it not? It seems to be an argument just to have it as an argument without any substance behind it.
The bolded bit is almost unintelligible, but had you read the post to which you originally replied, you'd have noticed a comparison between which would be a bigger challenge: joining the Premier League, or joining PSG.

And the answer is that it depends on which team he would have joined in England. We know that he's laid waste to every top team in the Premier League and had he joined City, that's much less of a challenge than joining a team (PSG) that aren't even champions of their own League.

Even if he wins the Champions League with them??

They’ve never won the Champions League, ever, if Messi brings them Champions League Glory either this season or next, he’ll be hailed a hero and job done for both Club and Player

Why do you think Ronaldo went to Juventus? To win League titles every year? He too went too bring the CL back to Juve after decades of not winning it

I hate this move so much. Messi in Barcelona is an institution, PSG is a club made possible with financial doping and underhand payouts competing in a at best, moderately interesting league.

Great job La Liga and Bartomeu.

Would have been great to have seen him in this league before he retired but convinced it was only ever City he would join, think the only way we would have ever considered this is if we were oil funded like Chelsea or our neighbours

I think PSG will win CL once in next 3 years now. Maybe not with Poch but with Ramos and Messi there it will eventually click at least once. However, me personally I'm not gonna start watching Ligue 1 games and wonder if Neymar+Mbappe actually helped the league much? People always talk about how many followers has this footballer ot that footballer but do these people watch games? To me sounds like they just want to be 'connected' to successful brands and that's it.

PSG are going to be fun to watch this season.
Hope they sign Pogba next season and field a front 6 of Mbappe, Messi, Neymar, Adm, Pogba and Verratti.

At this point I don't even care about the FFP anymore because it's clearly a joke, so might as well give up and enjoy what on paper is probably the biggest star studded lineup of this generation.

I don't even care about the CL anymore, if I'm being honest, it's just a competition that I watch now.

Hope we can start winning leagues titles again.

TBH expecting past their primes Ronaldo and Messi to win the CL is a tall order. Messi at least is in a stacked team so I think there should logically be more pressure on him.

Not really an interesting move - obviously he'll score loads and they'll win the league

Pretty funny for Barcelona fans though. I hope he scores against them in the Champions League

I wouldn't want to face that team.
I might be bitter but is it me or does that team look comically unbalanced? That front four doesn't look like it'll track back and work hard defensively, leaving a lot of the legwork to the double pivot of Veratti and Wijnaldum which I'm not entirely convinced will work.

Sure it looks great on FIFA, but in the real world I can see them getting caught out against high tempo sides in the Champions league.
