Very hard to call the starting 11

Obviously back 4 and keeper picks itself, Bruno and Greenwood will start….but then it gets tricky

Are we thinking Scott and Fred, with Pogba on left and Martial up top? But have a feeling james will start. So then maybe only one of Fred or McT and Pogba go into his French role

Or is it too early for Martial to start, in which case I don’t know?

What’s the issue with Cavani? Is he injured? Yes I thought Jones might be on the bench. Hard to see the thought process sometimes. We should edge this, hope to see Sancho take the field tomorrow

    Fred Matic

Expecting this. Van de Beek the only other one who might get in there instead of Fred, but pretty much this. Sancho off the bench to come on and dazzle.

What is your thinking of Matic ahead of McT? Purely fitness or am I missing something

Matic IMO fits us much better and is our best holding midfielder when he's fit and fresh still. And he's had a full pre season so he should be more ready than ever! McTominay has hardly played this pre season but also isn't as much of a natural footballer as Matic.

Extra time off to be with his family. He's back in Manchester but quarantine not finished in time for this game.

Looks like it'll be an odd side tomorrow. I hope they don't get caught short.

More than enough firepower to win this game. Would be immensely disappointed if we don't win.

We better be up for it tmrw. It cannot be a bigger occasion for the opening match of the season. I know we don’t have Cavani, Rashford and Varane and Sancho won’t start but if we don’t win then all this preseason buzz just comes crashing down.

Other than Rashford and Cavani (who'll be replaced by Pogba and Martial) the team will be the same as the one that finished 2nd in the league last season. It's more than good enough.

Our season starts in 9 hours guys. I hope a full stadium will mute Leed's intensity.

Unlucky for you LvG is not our manager anymore otherwise his football would have helped you fall asleep.

I'm really struggling to predict the team for this and I've seen some wildly different suggestions. The back five (De Gea, AWB, Shaw, Lindelof, Maguire) seems locked in, but other than that it seems wide open, especially in midfield. Is Fred fit enough to start after coming back from the Copa? Is Matic an acceptable option against a team like Leeds? Will Donny's strong pre season be rewarded with a start? Does Pogba play, and if so, where? Is Sancho ready to start?

Personally I would like to see Donny start with Fred in the pivot, with Pogba wide left, but I think it's more likely we'll get a Fred-Matic double pivot and James on the left, which I'm not completely averse to. I think Sancho comes off the bench after 60 minutes in which Martial has done nothing, with Greenwood moving up top.

Is there zero chance of Sancho actually starting?, because i'd like to see Pogba on the left and Sancho on the right. It could cause problems imo.

We will beat them comfortably. Bruno and pogba will destroy their midfield and pull their defence apart. Meanwhile our defence will be solid and won't let them through.

i think sancho starting is 50/50, he's certainly fit enough but whether Ole goes with a baptism of fire and hopes the small amount of team training is enough is another story all together.

the arsenal game reminds me that no game is easy to win - off season is terrible in giving a false feeling of strenght. really hope we win comfortably and kickstart the season like in 2006 against fulham i think

    I’ve gone for:
    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    McTominay- Fred
    Bruno
    Greenwood - Martial - James

    Sancho
    Van de Beek
    Pogba
Front 3 are the question mark, could just as easily be:

    Sancho - Greenwood -Pogba
    Sancho - Martial - James
    Greenwood - Martial - Pogba

I think he will give James another run against Leeds though, he’s done well against them so far and Pogba/Sancho might not be quite sharp yet.

There are games were I'm pretty confident and games where I'm sure we'll struggle - and then there are Leeds games: I have never been able to predict anything close to the right result. It does depend on whether they turn up or do what they did last season. It also depends on whether - unlike the past two years - we remember the season has started. In a way, I'd rather have had a more tricky away fixture: we've been horrible at OT on so many occasions early in the season...

As for the team, some people are saying varane will play a part - is he even officially a United player yet? I think Sancho will get time and I'd quite like to see him start to really get us (and the fans) up for it. I think it's more likely that w'e'll get yet another Mcfred day...

That feel when your drinking your morning coffee and realize the game is TODAY!

I hope the fans aren't too harsh on Martial, he's just back from injury and he might not have played so soon if everyone was available. Also hoping VDB proves he's a reliable option for Ole. This season is make or break for both of them.
