Why has the training pictures dried up, there has been no pictures of either Sancho or Varane training with the squad. I am still hopefully that both will be on the bench for saturday, specially as Sancho has been training for a week and Varane resumed training with Madrid for 2 to 3 days or maybe more before flying to UK.

I remember Maguire started the 1st game without having attended any training session with us. However, the major difference was he played all matches in pre-season with Leicester, whereas Varane has not played a single match.
Ole said yesterday that Sancho has been sick so he has only had 1,5 training sessions with us and it's doubtful that he will feature against Leeds at all. No training pics of Varane is probably due to the transfer not being officially completed yet.

Potentially missing our first choice front 3 in Cavani, Rashford and Sancho. I'll be happy to scrape any sort of win please.

Yeah, could be. I think Ole loves to use tricks from SAF's playbook, playing mind games is one of them. The article in question didn't have a direct quote from Ole saying he will be definitely out of the Leeds game, but it was mentioned in the article's lead paragraph. I still expect him to be on the bench but it sure doesn't like it is an option to play him from the start.

Can't believe it's time for this game already. Mental. Looking forward to the Premier League being back, even if I'm a little unsure how well we'll do in the opening weeks. I have faith in our squad generally, but it's obviously not going to be as exciting as it could be with no new signings starting tomorrow.

Agreed! I hope he is bluffing, but as you say, I think he'll come on as a 2nd half substitute.

The best thing he pulled out of the SAF handbook was when he complained that the players were struggling to pick each other out due the the colour clash of our kit & the banners around OT - Classic!

I see you didn't see Fred absolutely kill at Copa America then.
This. I'm not claiming Fred is the greatest midfielder in the world or anything but the hate for him is so blind to his actual ups and downs in form. He was one of the best-performing United players over the summer.

Assuming no Cavani, Varane or of course Rashford, I think I'd go with this. Fred's energy will be needed against Leeds. Martial may have been poor last season but he should be the freshest, sharpest player in the squad after not playing this summer.

Take the game to them and burn out their pressing game with a fast start pinning them into their own half.

All of the creative four around Martial can interchange positions, but Tony needs to stay high and in the box and not get tempted back into the build-up play too much.

Martial hadn't played for 5 months before the Everton pre-season friendly.
    Freshest? maybe. Sharpest? Doubtful

Ideally he should not be a starter. Was costing us left right and centre in the second half of last season.

Sadly we didn't buy a DM so he will play too much
Well that's up for debate but the guy I was quoting said he shouldn't start against Leeds and I see no reason why he shouldn't. He'll be very important against a high energy team like Leeds.

Who actually believes Ole will switch to 4-3-3? I don't. That's exactly what we should have done when Pogba first came back into the team when we signed Bruno. 4-3-3 was the obvious formation for those two players. I just can't see Ole doing it. He's never done it before, why should he do it now?
Didn't we play 4-3-3 against Everton

Just keep Fred out of the XI please.
..Why? Had a great tournament in the summer with Brazil and I thought played really well in the friendly against Everton, his passing looked really crisp. The one who shouldn’t be starting is McTominay.

He’s done it loads actually. He played Herrera, Pogba and Matic when he first came here, and he played a 3 of Bruno, Matic and Pogba after lockdown last summer. Matic is done though so how exactly is he meant to do so without a DM? I think he’s been trying to turn Fred into a DM as I don’t think there is a clear target in mind.

I'd say the team will be pretty close to this. Perhaps James in instead of Sancho if it's true he's been unwell and missed training this week. We might see Matic or McTominay in ahead of Fred or Pogba as well.

OGS says that it's unlikely that Sancho will feature against Leeds according to Norwegian TV2. Also says the reason for him starting training so late is because of holiday and that he has been sick. Could very well be mindgames though.
I don't think Ole plays mindgames. I believe him when he says that Sancho won't be playing.

Always slightly gutting when none of your new signings play the first game of the season.

We battered them at home last season. I don't expect us to batter them but we should easily have enough even without any new signings playing.
