Too many bullshit links to midfielders. The only one I believe we may be in for is Camavinga and I think we don’t have the budget until we make sales and he doesn’t want to join us anyway. We really do need a midfielder though.

We don’t half get in a tizzy over links that have very little substance.

Plus if McTominay and Fred (and the team in generally, really) continue to perform how they did vs Leeds for the rest of August, it'll probably dampen our chances of getting another midfielder.

Clubs seem to be positioning themselves for the player after Monaco's defeat in the first leg of the UCL qualifier.

Why are Chelsea in for him? They've already got Kovacic, Jorginho and Kante. Fecking oil clubs.

To stop us signing him presumably? Oiligarch clubs have enough money to simply boost their sides by virtue of ensuring others don’t get strengthened.

Chelsea have been linked to him for some time now.

It would make sense as since they've loaned out Billy Gilmour, they only have Kovacic to come in for their starting double six pairing. They're probably looking at Tchouameni as the long term replacement for Kante and someone who they can pair with Kovacic. Good squad planning, especially as Jorginho is always touted to leave for Italy every year. Fabregas also seems to rate Tchouameni really highly and thinks he has the ability to be anything he wants to be as a midfielder. If we're purely looking for a defensive mid, Tchouameni would be a better bet than Camavinga, but Camavinga will probably be the better all-round midfielder in the long term.

This whole thing started from that mufcmpb account who constantly barrages every journo on Twitter with questions about transfers.

Fabregas rates him highly and described him as a complete midfielder in the making who he said has the ability to become a very complete midfielder in the modern game. He went on to say that he could play as a #8 and a lone #6 if tactical requirements expected such a approach.

It all started after Monaco lost the first leg of their UCL qualifier.

It’s a crap source however you look at it. If it was solid info the journo would have tweeted it himself rather then apparently send a DM on Twitter. The Ruben Neves links had more substance then this.

The journo if I'm not mistaken worked for RMC in the past. And currently he works in Belgium and covers news regarding Belgian players. So it's not surprising he wouldn't tweet such info unless asked.

So how come we need to sell before buying when Chelsea can throw hundreds of millions away last summer, sign Lukaku this summer and add midfielders like this?

Surely we can spend as much as them if we want to?

They're bringing in plenty from player sales though, aren't they? Plus....you know they're a bit, well you know, dodgy.

Yeah your probably right, I don't pay much attention to them, but they sell average players for crazy money, Roman probably pulling in 'favours' with a few dodgy handshakes.

Tammy Abraham for 30-odd million from the notoriously stingy Italians? Yeaaaaa ok.

I have seen reports that he is a Kante type player and now reports he is a long term replacement for Pogba. Has anybody seen him play and can say for sure what kind of midfielder he is?

I've only watched him once for France U21's. Wasn't majorly impressed, but can someone give me a brief overview of the type of midfielder he is, please?

If Ole persists on two man midfield, Tchouameni could be proper choice, he and Fofana did both good as a duo. Wondering what the actual price is with three years left on his contract.

Camavinga has more time to mould into specialist, sitting deep or driving forward, not to mention more likely to move.

Personally think the Chelsea links will probably pick up pace in the next week or so

Definitely closer to Kante; that’s who he’s often compared to. Though you always have to be careful about ‘he’s the next (player)’ comparisons as it rarely works out that way.

His best attributes are what he provides defensively. Pressing, tackling, interceptions, positioning. He's also very good in the air. Offensively or in possession he's a work in progress. Currently I don't think his passing is all that great, he isn't a dribbler either or someone who carries the ball forward a lot. I think as a comparison a taller Kante isn't the worst one. If anything I think he would be an upgrade on McTominay.
