Wait. Why is this news to anyone? He's not a great coach. He's clearly not shite like some of you are making out but just like we have some very average players, we have a very average manager who unfortunately doesn't seem to be improving. Anyway, the board has made it clear he is here to stay the moment until we fall below the minimum expectations so no point of trying to evaluate his performance week in, week out as we will only know at the end of the season.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
I praised Ole last week, but if were judging him on a game by game basis, this was terrible by him.

Starting Martial up top after the performance last week by Mason, was a huge mistake. Not changing it in game (during the first half) was a mistake too.
Fred /Matic just doesnt work and I dont remember when it has. Matic/VDB/Bruno worked pre season
Fred staying on as long as he did was shocking.

And not making that third sub much earlier to go for the win (rather than trying to avoid a loss) lost us our momentum.

The players were bad but Ole got it wrong today.
Plenty of players were shit today and deserve their share of grief but agree with all of this ⬆.

Every now and again, Ole needs to bollock the players from the touch line and maybe even make a HT sub.. give the players the kick they need now and again. Their lethargy is amazing for top sportsmen…. rugby, basketball, NFL, you’d be hooked in half a minute. Oles man management does seem a strength but sometimes he needs to shout and forget the arm around the shoulders.

2 points wasted. Southampton are average

Our squad has improved but his management has not. These are the games you must win if you want to win title. Under him we will always be a nearly side. I won't call him a shit manager but I seriously doubt we can win anything big under him.

I said before the season that the focus shouldn’t be on a title challenge but more on a points tally. Even if you don’t think that this team can compete with City or Chelsea but we should be aiming for 80+ points with the players we have & the fact that this manager is now in his third season . For any top manager being at the club for so long should be a major plus and should mean that you have got a proper style but we are still waiting

Anyone with half functioning brain cell will see why he is not a good manager. Lose the midfield and chase the ball despite the fact we need to win these games against these shitty teams. He should be ashamed playing with a team just Paul Pogba cost more than their entire team. Shameful management.

I don't agree with the bolded part.

Maguire was not worth 80m
AWB for 50m was also a poor decision.
VDB never plays
James isn't good enough
Diallo is now out on loan

Huge amount of money wasted

Only decent signings have been telles (because he finally got shaw playing) and cavani.
And Bruno Fernandes..

I will take my time off redcafe until our next game.

The most disappointing thing is not the result, but the caf and overreacting posters.

See you lot next week.

Jesus Christ. Thanks for the announcement. We would've all been wondering where you'd gone otherwise.

The redcafe more disappointing than the dropped points? Cinabit.

I can never understand why can't he get the subs out at HT. He did have an idea. He put Sancho and Lingard. Now imagine him doing that at HT. There would have been 45 minutes for them to do whatever it is required to change the game. Instead, we got 20 minutes from them with Soton wasting time like a prick.

I guess all the positive rational posters doing the same.

Reading you lot whining here after 2 games is depressing and humiliating.

We're in meltdown and want to sack the manager for your shiny new manager. Biggest joke today.

If he gets 80+ points he'll exceed my expectations and I will believe he can make it work. Not counting on it but hope he does.

Ole has been a worse manager for us than Jose was. People aren't ready for that conversation yet though.
Not sure about that mate, they are so different. I feel like they all have their aspects in which they were better in. Just dont think we will ever win anything under Ole.

That's nothing great, we werent too far off it last season and that wasnt great either. Spent over 100 million ever since too.

We are competing with our rivals while having an arm tied behind our backs.

Depends what you consider better. Improving the level and mood of the squad or actually winning trophies. I'd consider winning trophies a more important barometer for a top club.

I rate him because he's vastly improved the squad and made us a top team.

Unfortunately though he's up against a City team that has about twenty top attackers and a budget even larger than ours all the whilst starting from a further back position squad wise, so if we want to win the league we need someone exceptional and he just isn't it. The team Klopp built was exceptional.

That said though give me Ole over the 3 chancers we had prior to him any day. I feel though he misjudged this window, we really needed a ball playing DM, an attacking RB, and a RW that can run at the opposition and stretch play. Varane and Sancho are both big names and strong squad options but in terms of our first XI I'm not sure we should've prioritised them over the 3 aforementioned positions we needed.

Can anyone tell me why he keeps Matic? Why does he let him drop into as a third central defender? Or even into a left back position?
Why doesn't he play DVB instead of Matic? Try something else when you see it's not working at all?
Surely DVB can't be worse than what Matic was doing for 75 mins?

We had 73 last season so a 7-8 point improvement is pretty good but it won’t happen . We are more likely to finish around 70 rather than around 80

Yeah, but I think Ole gets the squad closer for another manager to actually win the bigger trophies. Mourinho was kinda destroying the club.

But we need to get rid of Ole within 2 years probably, tops.

Nothing great I think, especially considering our start and the fact we didnt take the end serious with our EL ambitions. Should be the absolute minimum really to get 80 points.

So Ole is basically a better DOF than Jose. Fair enough, that I'd agree with.

So it took one draw for the PE teacher crowd to come out
Bloody hell, how much proof you people need to realise that failed Cardiff manager is not good enough for Man Utd? Fans from all other clubs are laughing to us and were celebrating when he got new contract.
He is average (at best) manager. His level is championship. Not one of biggest clubs in the world. We can buy him two world class dmcs, Haaland and Mbappe plus Trippier and Oblak. And guess what; he would still struggle to win anything.
Shit players don't become world class with time; same goes for managers.

These sort of games are the most disappointing though because there is always this talk with Ole that he knows the club etc but whenever we are in a game like this he just never throws the kitchen sink at it. He took off Martial for Sancho and then switched a midfielder for another midfielder. The last sub happened at 85 minutes. I miss the days where Fergie would just throw every striker he had on the bench in to games we needed a goal in
