Reliant on the world class quality players to to lift his mediocre (probably lower than mediocre) management.

The football his team plays is generally awful, no matter how much money he throws at it. He will have the blowouts occasionally but these performances will always frquently occur when he's the manager.

The style of play is still awful/non existent after all this time, and him trying to be smart is really dumb. Matic, Martial should have definitely not started and Fred is a whole other debate. A midfielder who can barely pass the ball.

He's not a very good manager and I think his mistakes cost us two points today. You can't lose points like this if you seriously think of challenging the league.

Just as clueless on how to break a low-block like last season

Last 30 minutes were diabolical, players looked dead on their feet. No energy or urgency, lord knows what we were doing in pre-season, just 2 matches are not enough.

Time for him to improve as much as it is for certain players.

It’s the first game of this type this season but it’s a re-run of so many inept performances from seasons past; we can’t continue dropping points in such feeble fashion.

We’ve not evolved an iota in these games.

I praised Ole last week, but if were judging him on a game by game basis, this was terrible by him.

Starting Martial up top after the performance last week by Mason, was a huge mistake. Not changing it in game (during the first half) was a mistake too.
Fred /Matic just doesnt work and I dont remember when it has. Matic/VDB/Bruno worked pre season
Fred staying on as long as he did was shocking.

And not making that third sub much earlier to go for the win (rather than trying to avoid a loss) lost us our momentum.

The players were bad but Ole got it wrong today.

Hold on guys. Hold on. How he can beat Southampton without world class defensive midfielder? In matter of fact he is overachieving. Deserves 2 more years at least

Whats going on with him and Donny? I mean I hate to harp on and it’s been discussed to death but just does not want to give him a single chance. Matic, Fred, McT, Lingard all ahead of him is fecking absurd.

He set the team out well. I’ll give him that. Well on top until conceding a goal against the run of play. The in-game management, not so good.

HELLO
If we get a superstar player in every position, we can bury the fact that we're persisting with Ole due to being a club legend rather than due to evidence in his CV or in his time here that he should have the job on merit.

I don’t see how anyone can plan for Southampton and think that Matic & Fred together would be the way to go. We have so many attacking players who play the same way and if we are not going to get a midfielder then you need the manger to come up with a solution internally . We played a team that will finish bottom 6-8 and they completely dominated the midfield

Same issues persisting, despite the level of the squad improving. He's simply not good enough. We still have a terrible, unorganised press. Our passing is so fecking predictable and slow, the channels always get closed off as teams always know where we will pass. The movement off the ball is fecking terrible.

The guy hasn't won a trophy in like 7 years, he's been here for approaching 3 and our football doesn't look any better. The fact that people still seem to think he is miraculously going to gain the ability to challenge Pep, Klopp and Tuchel who are in another realm to him is crazy

That's not even taking into account the late substitutions, the ridiculous team selections at times and the cowardly two defensive midfielder setup. Fecking Matic, who has no legs against one of the most energetic and high pressing teams in the league. Fecking baffling.

I've decided.

With Ole is will always be high, highs and low, lows. Ultimately is 'average' level is far below standard. After this much time in charge and money spent. His team can't keep delivering displays like this against the so called lesser teams.

I can't believe we set out to not control the game in midfield, so I can't only thing he doesn't know how to coach the team to do it. He can't blame the personnel as he haven't even given some of them a chance.

The treatment of Donny is criminal, if he really can't get a game despite some of our short comings he should have been moved on in the summer.

Can't help but feel this is just akin to Lampards Chelsea, a quality list of players but a manager out of his depth. I actually think we have the 2nd best squad in the league by some margin.

I'd give Ole 10 games, if we aren't competing right at the top he needs to go.

Here we go again. Nothing changes. Nice guy, good with transfers, the players like him, but he's just not a very good manager is he?

Got conned by a couple of good pre season performances from Matic against the likes of Derby and QPR and he couldn't see what half our armchair fans could see from that lineup, that Matic can't handle the PL anymore. Then when we are getting overrun his solution is to the sub the other player. Lose the midfield battle like that and the rest of the players stand no chance.

Our performances are a lottery and that's not the mark of a top manager.

Not a big fan of Martial starting myself, and in hindsight it was clearly the wrong call, but I can see the logic here.

He wanted to show him trust and look how he responded. Unfortunately he responded by strolling around like he did 90% of last season

No amount of quality players will help us if we don't know how to beat a press and that's on Ole.

So incompetent . Don't even get me started in the subs.

He likes to change the team at worst possible moments.

I would have gone with the same team or put Sancho instead of Martial.

So gameplan "lets give Pogba freedom to roam around" is not working every week. Damn, he must invent something new now.

I could understand it if Mason didnt perform last week. But you gotta follow up that Mason performance by having him play there again to get the consistency. Its no surprise Mason scored in the box being in the right position.
Martial had 45 minutes pre season so him starting was a eyebrow raiser for sure.

The other thing is how our players still dont know how to deal with a high press. I get playing out to draw out oppoisiton, but then at times you gotta hit it long / medium to kill off the press and turn the opposition around. We never mix it up and only go long when theres no pressure and the opposition drop deep. Its frustrating that its still happening and we are still getting caught out on it.

He isn’t a very brave manager. He’d rather keep the point that risk a loss chasing the win. All championship winning managers need to be willing to take a chance, I don’t get that from him at all. Reminds me very much of Southgate for England.

It's going on nearly 3 years now and still the flaws are there
There's really no point. If people are still on the Ole train, it's very clear they have no intention of changing their perspective. This 'process' rubbish is the same talk Arsenal are dishing out to get them on board with Arteta.

Disappointment and the knowledge that Ole isn’t good enough didn’t take long to come back. The nature of the display is a massive reminder of that.

It hurts because with the new additions, we should be challengers, but we won’t be and that will be on him.

You realise that term is a meme for banter clubs right? Nobody actually uses that term with sincerity. It’s something you’ll see from rival fans talking about Arsenal needing to keep Arteta.

I don't agree with the bolded part.

Maguire was not worth 80m
AWB for 50m was also a poor decision.
VDB never plays
James isn't good enough
Diallo is now out on loan

Huge amount of money wasted

Only decent signings have been telles (because he finally got shaw playing) and cavani.

Awful negative manager who gets a free pass because he played for the club.

Process led by a man who would struggle to find a job in Europe’s top 5 leagues and showed nothing in nearly 3 years. Surely deserves full trust.

He's a good man manager but can't see him ever being the coach to lead us to big trophies. Our football in terms of cohesion and possesion play is simply bang average.
