Don't know how people are comparing this to the Andy, Peter and Denis moves.

They were a shit City.

This is a City where they are the best team in the league.

There's a difference. It was bad then. It's even WORSE now.
Spot on. It was almost a bit embarrassing when they did it. As in, look how far they've fallen. That's not the case now.

Ronaldo shouldn't have a single United fan support him if he does this and I absolutely love the bloke.

It’ll be interesting to see how he addresses the United situation in the media afterwards - he could easily go down the Owen/Fabregas route of saying “I wanted to go back but they turned me down so I had to join their fiercest rivals instead” and put all the blame on the Glazers since a lot of fans will swallow that happily, but I think he’ll actually just front it out like “feck United, that was ages ago and they treated me like a slave, now I can win trophies with a proper club owned by the wonderful rulers of Abu Dhabi”

This is going to hurt. I’ve long since believed he didn’t really hold our club in any sort of affection, and it was more just a business relationship of convenience, but just seeing him going to City and becoming one of them will smart.

You can only bet that they will go all out to ensure he will further legitimise them in the years to come too with an ambassador role, provided he has any sort of success there. Now he will just be another Tevez for United.

Unless United suddenly start winning again, it may well be this moment – and not the Tevez signing – that really marks the shift in power.
Echoes my thoughts exactly, as much as I liked him when he played for us, I hated when man United fans would still adore him to insane lengths after he left as it was obvious he didn’t have the sort of love for the club that some players have had. Plus as good as he was he played majority of his peak elsewhere although we got 3 season where he was either one of or the best player in the world. I get there is some sentiment to a lot of fans considering he is the best player to have played in a man United shirt.

But I will be gutted with him going to Man City, not just because of the impact he will have on the team and their results but the statement it sends.

You've got to move on. Fair play to him.

This is like a former Woolworths employee now going onto work for Amazon. Woolworths will be back one day.

Doubt he has many other genuine options to be fair. Not many clubs can afford his salary and offer him a hit at the Champions league.

Schmeichel too. Didn’t do him any harm.

I’m not sure why people are only annoyed at him now. Even if he moves to city at 36, which I doubt he will, so what? It‘s more wrath-worthy that he left us at 24 to give his prime years to another club imo.
It did Schmeichel harm , firmly dented his status amongst fans

If his fee is as low as reported, why aren't we swooping in for him? If only to show some muscle?

Haaland is supposedly a big, big fan of him as well, which might come in handy a year from now.
And where you going to play him? He's not better than Cavani at the #9. We have Pogba, Martial and Rashford fighting for positions on the LW. I rather give more minutes to Greenwood. Bruno and Ronaldo fighting over PKs and spot kicks. The moment he gets benched he's going to have a fit.

Let City have him and be stuck on those wages for the next 2-3 years. A disaster waiting to happen.

He is a United legend. Currently.

If he goes to City, that changes.

This isn't Andy Cole or Peter Schmeichel going to a shit City team. This is Ronaldo going to a team that is our direct rivals and strengthening them and making our chances of winning trophies more difficult.
To be fair with our midfield, the chances of us winning trophies is currently zero.

What are the actual reliable sources here? I don’t see any. We’ve got the notoriously clueless Delaney referencing a Portuguese journalist whose track record seems very dodgy. Let’s maybe save the meltdowns.

Exactly this. I was very disappointed in him back then, that he couldn't wait to get out even though we were winning everything in sight and he was adored. But now? I couldn't give less of a feck about him. The one silver lining, if this goes through, is that United fans' cringeworthy one-sided love affair with him might end.

1. He probably doesn't want to come here.
2. He'd cost an absolute fortune in transfer fees + wages for a 36-year-old.
3. He's 36, turning 37 in February.
4. We have a bloated squad as it is and can't seem to get rid of the likes of Lingard and Mata so point 2 is even more important.
You are forgetting something, even a 36 year Ronaldo is a massive improvement to our team.

Him signing for us would generate massive revenues and the deal would be self financing.

But lets roll over to our neighbours who are showing intent whilst we wait to see if Olli will play his new signings or just bench them as normal.

objectively, I understand it. It's his best chance to win another CL title, something he simply wouldn't have at Juventus. City will also pay him handsomely, and I'm sure he'll easily walk into their first XI as the main striker and do really well there. So I get it, from a football perspective.

but as a United fan, he can go pound sand. Treason, obviously.

If he wants more money, he will move to Qatar, etc.

To be fair City is the oil money. He clearly meant every word he said about more money..

City needs a goal scorer, yes but this is more like pr contest between Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

I loved Cristiano when he played for us. His 2006-2007 is the season I had the most fun watching a player for my team. But you could sensed that he never truly belonged here just like he did with Madrid. I have not felt nostalgic ever since he left because of the way he left. I don't feel sad. He can go. Hopefully we can go ahead and sign Haaland next summer.

I wouldn't play him. I'd make him sit in the naughty corner and contemplate why he flirted with Man City. And maybe teach Greenwood a trick or three in practice.

Olli is a new nickname or I missed it?

Not going for Ronaldo is rolling over for CIty. That's a new one.

I mean, the guy is clearly a self-serving and egotistical tosser. I said as much while he stilled played for us, and it’s partly why we loved him. It’s like when you get with that really hot woman that’s known for sleeping around, but you don’t care that she’s easy cause she does all the dirtiest stuff in bed and it’s amazing. It’s why you love her, but you gotta know it’s never going to last, and you can’t cry when she gets with another guy. It’s almost the exact same. Not that this ever happened to me, like.

I'd be more annoyed if we had gone in for him and he chose them over us.

It definitely didn't finance itself for Juventus. This is basically the old 'shirt sales' myth again.

And who's Olli? Any relation to Olly the notorious kebab-hater?

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.

He's already getting abuse online and there's not really any credible links.

If this actually happens he'll get all manner of worse abuse.

His PR team will put the focus on the abuse and he'll get sympathy from a ton of fans.

Also, as you said "Man United didn't want me back" is a pretty easy out for him.

I still think this is all about getting an extension at Juventus and trying to force their hand. He is 36 though. No matter how good you are, 36 is 36.

Best part is I think mostly the love won't end.

The new Figo
A bit misleading that.

Half of that quote is from 2013, and the other half is from 2015.
They also left out the part from the first quote where he said ‘The future? I don’t know - only God know the future'
'I’m not going to say it is impossible, because in football the impossible doesn’t exist.' (this one is right before the 'very very' part)
and ‘I can’t say I’m never going back to Manchester United either - but I can say I’m good here in Madrid and I want to be here.’

Basically the parts that make that first quote less assertive.

Not that it changes much.
Different source have slightly different quotes, and the quote seems to have been given to the Sun, so who knows what he actually said.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. Clearly and fully wrong (even borderline crazy), but different I'll give you that.
If it was Darren Fletcher (good player for us, probably not quite a “legend”) at Juve joining City, do you think anyone would care this much? I mean people would dislike for it but that’s it.
I’m not even defending Ronaldo (I’ll be astounded if he goes through with this) , I’m just debunking the idea that he’s not a legend here.

He will reverse the snake move once he retired.

I'm sure of it.

He only cares about getting attention. That Messi has gone to PSG knowing that he is in a much more competent team than Juventus is something that it seems that he could not bear and now he is able to go to the direct rival of one of the Clubs that propelled him. Ronaldo for you.
