People annoyed at our club for not going for him when he offered himself to us. Oh really ? It's not like he's offered himself to us before. You know, like everytime he wants a new bloody pay rise from his employees. I can't blame the club for not signing him. He's been dragging our name through the dirt since he left and used us to get himself a bumper new deal at every opportunity. Yet, Ronaldo fanboys in here wetting their pants. If this transfer turns more of these fanboys and grown men ass kissers to the blue half of Manchester then good riddance.

Dennis Law played for City, scored the goal that relegated us. I remember that moment well. He is still a player we all loved.
You remember it wrong. His goal was irrelevant. Even if United had won, it wouldn't have saved them from relegation as Birmingham beat Norwich to ensure their survival.

What a way to ruin your legacy. Nothing to prove in the PL, instead of keeping that United legacy, he is going to ruin that for a bit of bob at City.

Personally think he fecks up the City team. Will be interesting to see where he fits and how much he plays, because he wasn’t exactly numero uno at Juve last year.

It’s gutting he’s going to City - doubt we’ll be hearing Viva Ronaldo much more. But feck it, we focus on United and we have the future in Sancho, Greenwood plus many more.

The difference is, he is one of our own.

It's the homecoming, we all know he would benefit us, hell even if it was just the buzz of wearing his name on the shirts again and having the stadium swinging.

Imagine the opposite, imagine its City, so many wrongs on so many levels.
Hes not one of our own.

according to Fabrizio Romano, Mendes offered the player to Manchester United, but the club refused to sign him. In this case, things definitely change.

Most sensible Juve fans consider him great for them but failed by the team.

Like somebody said in this thread previously — he outscored the 100m Lukaku last season and that was considered a flop season for him and how he’s clearly on the decline, that’s how high the standards are for Ronaldo.

No they haven't. Romano has only said that talks have been had with Man Utd

Not sure why anyone is surprised by this. Ronaldo is known to be a narcissist. Him trying to get his colleague and pal Rooney sent off in Euro 2004 and the wink afterwards, his over-the-top shirtless cringe celebration, him throwing up a fuss because he couldn't score a goal in the CL final against Liverpool, Bale stealing the limelight from him for his winning goal and then come post celebration, he came out to say he might move elsewhere, not turning up for Ballon D'Or because he knew he wouldn't win anyway, writing a dramatic social media post about the media's talk of him wanting to leave Juve and saying he is committed to Juve because Messi made all the headlines for his move to PSG. Guess what? Now it's actually for real. Ronaldo wants to be the main man, the most talked about footballer in the world, his selfishness, ego, vanity and narcissism means he values his personal achievement more than team achievement. Nothing wrong with it though mind you, that is exactly what drives him from a great player to a phenomenal player but any Man Utd fan who thinks he loved us should now have a reality check. He never had any affection for Man Utd and him moving to City has really reinforced my belief in that.

Ronaldo and Grealish are not Guardiola players at all. Mavericks, charismatic players who are individualistic. I'm not entirely convinced this will work out that well for them.

(cue 30 goal season from CR and player of the year for Grealish)

What needs to change? The club are probably looking long term there. Kane and/or Haaland are available next summer, and they’ll offer a level of longevity Ronaldo might not be able to.

But this is all presupposed against a very tenuous statement which implies that Ronaldo actually wanted to join us. I doubt he did, really. It was only ever PSG or City. Maybe a return to Madrid.

The people on twitter and on here saying we need to protest because we’ve only spent 115m this summer on two world class players and aren’t signing a past-it poacher for whatever ridiculous money he wants when we’ve lost over 100m in a global pandemic are a fecking embarrassment. My favourite are the #boycotttheglazer tweets then demanding we spend 150m on Harry Kane. The brain cells of a frog who give the likes of Souness and Simon Jordan the credibility to speak the total shite they do. There are deep rooted reasons to want the Glazers to feck off - this summer isn’t sodding one of them.

Oh ffs you lot.......

I thought children weren't allowed on this forum? Way to prove me wrong.

He's a grown ass man, he can sign for who ever the feck he wants.
Besides, he's shit now anyways.

And for all those who'd want to see him back here.......get a grip.
Leave the past where it belongs.

We have new kids ready to take over, new memories and titles to come.

Voted the best city in the world
He’s going where he thinks he’s got the best chance of adding to his list of trophies won and he’s not turning that down for less money and a lower chance of success.

This notion of him having some kind of romantic connection to United is bloody weird.
Bingo. No matter how many times you repeat it though, people will just ignore it and pretend it’s United not bidding for him. He’s got no loyalty to anyone but himself and that’s fair enough. He’s always been like that.

This is not like RVP went to United, during the peak of his powers.

Come on lads, this is Ronaldo collecting his retirement money and taking the easy ride for the title.

Pretty much like Lampard to Citteh.
Hmm not quite.
Lampard was finished by then and a bit part walk on player.
And there is no link between Chelsea and City apart from being deplorable oil team play things.
Ronaldo would be starting most games and probably still their best player.

Both signings feel like they’ve been made with a bit of PR in mind. City have been a top 3(?) club in world football consistently since Pep has taken over, but in all honesty they’ve still been very irrelevant and nobody really cares about them. De Bruyne is a phenom but he’s a gangly ginger lad — Jacky and Ronnie have that marketability that their team currently lacks.

As you say, neither seem like typical Pep players. But if you’re given the chance to sign Grealish and Ronaldo, most managers are hardly going to say ‘nah feck that’ — are they?

Exactly this, except he isn't shit, his powers have waned but he is a still a pretty useful forward.
The upside if he goes is he could break Citys wage structure and upset a lot of the squad.

Part of me hopes this move is akin to Shevchenko to Chelsea, in that it’s the owner who is driving the move rather than the manager which will obviously cause a rift between the two parties. It certainly feels like this move is Abu Dhabi trying to outdo Qatar after they signed Messi, but if Guardiolas only here for another 2 seasons, maybe he’s thinking feck it and just get a short term fix before he leaves.

He’d surely upset the apple cart since he wants to play every minute of every game and with Guardiolas rotation carousel policy, it doesn’t mesh well.

At the rate Ronaldo score, he might even surpass his United tally when he is finished at City.

I watched him in the Euros and he has definitely declined. His hold up play was crap and he could hardly get past a player. Even his step overs have become a joke. 3 pens and a tap in made his 5 goals look better than it actually was. No matter how fit you are, age catches up with all of us. He will score goals against the lesser teams because City do make chances, but I can’t see Pep starting him in the big games and that’s when the cracks will start to appear. This will end up a disaster for both parties.

That's PR for you.
of course, I always speak for myself, mine are not absolute truths

nothing, but since many here are sorry or desperate that he is going to the City, it was a possible interpretation. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think he would have gladly returned here, even when he wanted to leave Real Madrid. Time will tell

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
If my ex wants to get back with me but I reject her, should I feel aggreived if she gets together with someone I don't like?

Obviously a silly example, none of my exes want to get back with me.

He's still a clinical goal scorer. Everyone is wanking themselves over Chelsea signing Lukaku, Ronaldo outscored him in the Serie A last season.

Ronaldo is a highly individualistic player. Messi might very well win more Ballon d'Ors and is probably considered a better player amongst most people neutral to United. If Ronaldo can keep winning more Champions Leagues than Messi, it's going to play in his favor when people consider who's the best of them. That's why he's going to City. He's not going to care one bit about his United legacy. He's not going to care one bit about getting booed at Old Trafford either. He's going to care about his relationship with SAF, which I cannot see is going to be broken because of this.
Tbf to him, I think he's one of the few players who actually embody the 'boos make me stronger' mentality. Loves to score agaisnt rivals away.

You believe it’s PR.

I’m saying that the likelihood of that report of him being offered to United being true is greater than it just being PR.
I really don’t quite get how people are finding it hard to believe that a player who has been offered around Europe all summer, whose parent club want rid of due his wages, who was benched at the end of last year and who only has about 6 clubs that could match those wages in Europe was offered to us. It’s bizarre. Of course Mendes offered him to us - he’d be a shit agent if he didn’t.

Spending a lot of time in the RAWK goes into meltdown threads has clearly had an impact on the collective psyche of RedCafe.
