His winning mentality and experience will have huge impact on any team, especially United with many young players (and players in general) who hasn’t won anything.

Just come home to see this. Weird mix of feelings. I mean, obviously it's fantastic. But I am worried that he won't know how to play without having a side built around him any more, or worse that it won't matter because Ole will try and build around him.
You should have stopped at fantastic

If someone with a subscription can reveal some other interesting tidbits, that'd be great.
Highlights:

  • Ole called Woody Thurs. night to press him to make a move - Woody picked up the phone and started negotiations with Juve
  • Fergie played a "major role" in the last 24 hours both calling Ronaldo and Mendes to sell them on United, as well as calling members of the United board to push for the move
  • Ronaldo was "genuinely inquisitive" about how moving to City would impact his legacy
  • Rio talked him through, ensured him that it would ruin his legacy at United forever, and relayed financial details to Woody (with whom he is close). Rio was up through 1:30AM helping to broker the deal
  • At the same time, Bruno, Evra, and Ole all got involved and personally reached out to Ronaldo to show "a wave of affection"
  • Ronaldo had given his word by 10:30AM today that he would be signing with us (prior to Ole's presser)
  • Mendes tried all summer to get Ronaldo to United but we held out because we did not believe he would actually leave Juve
  • City had a fully agreed deal with Ronaldo and Juve teammates believed that's where he was going
  • Suspicions that Mendes used City's interest to get us to act, which may impact future relationship with City
  • Ronaldo has been trying to leave Juve since last summer
  • Fergie is one of the only people in the world who Ronaldo still defers to
  • Our squad is allegedly delighted to have him and coaches feel he will up the levels in the dressing room "like Mr. Miyagi"

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
I hate to be a party pooper, but did anybody else not notice that both were poor at euros and are widely thought to be in decline? Let’s not pretend you don’t need to be at your peak to be a serial winner. I say this, because the club will be bearing a career peak wage for both… and now Pogba’s agent is going to double his ransom! The whole thing feels irresponsible and desperate.
The feck are you on about Ronaldo was top scorer at the Euros…. and Varane wasn’t bad it was Lenglet that was terrible for that French side.

Don’t know how signing one of the best strikers in the world at a position of need for a cheap fee is irresponsible, especially considering he would have made our rivals terrifying if he went there

I'm still in a bit of shock about the last couple of days.

It rarely happens that United sign a player so quickly, and without endless rumours and will he / won't he dragging on for ages. I can't believe how quickly such a huge deal happened, and how radically it changed from a reported move to City to us entering the race and almost immediately announcing him!

I love Ronaldo, and have enjoyed following his amazing career, but, earlier in the summer, when a move was mooted, my heart felt 'yes', but my head said 'I'd prefer to prioritise RW, CB, CM'.

However, today, I'm just ecstatic. We did sort out RW and CB. And there was no suggestion of any CM on the horizon, so this deal isn't instead of a priority position - it's just a huge bonus! And, after the awful fear that he might join City, what a huge bonus it is to see him back where he belongs.

It seems as if Ronaldo is genuinely a person who doesn't understand the emotion of others and how his actions affects others close to him. Further backed by how much he puts himself first always.

"Mendes tried all summer to get Ronaldo to United but we held out because we did not believe he would actually leave Juve"

This part sounds like face saving from Mendes. Making him a martyr risking his future business with Man City.

If it has been all summer, I doubt we would leave it this late, when we're more than welcomed his contribution these first few weeks (Cavani not available until who know when. Rashford out for months. Martial came back from a lengthy injury off a bad season. Playing Dan James). It's only clear this past week with Ronaldo exclusion from Juventus game that 100% he's moving. I can suspect Ronaldo-PSG was in their mind until Messi switch. They're just weighing up options, and us being the best solution at this stage of the window. Not some thoughtful Mendes' moral driven motive, holding out until us changing our mind.

Was Gary Neville taking the piss out of Carragher by putting a picture of him with Ronaldo and saying the defenders have got better now?

I know, that’s what I was typing with “it’s likely” but I clicked post before I could finish. I don’t care what it is to be honest I’m enjoying the energy
Fair enough, I would be too!

Big thanks to you for posting the highlights. I'm amazed how much work Rio did here in relaying the financial demands to Woodward. That's what I'd expect from someone working in the football club (like Judge)!

It's what he shouts when he scores.

I believe it started out as 'Si' as in yes but morphed into something else.

Google exists you know.
Thank you sir for explaining, as well as introducing me to goggles which can define reality vs caf chat. I apologise I did not go to the former as my first point of support.

I go to bed thinking that he's all but signed for City. I wake up to see him as a Man Utd player. What a timeline this is. Almost feels like Fergie is back.

Welcome home Cristiano!

Imagine being a United fan and not get excited by this. It's the usual culprits in this thread though I see

Wow wow.

This is a gam changer. We've signed one of the best strikers in the world and a talisman who will be the standard bearer for this club for the next two years at least. This has given the entire club a lift and I can't imagine what it'll do to likes of Sancho, Bruno and Rashford. All of our players need to raise their game a little because they find themselves playing with one of the best players to have ever played the game.

That doesn't make any sense. If Mendez was doing that, surely it is because Cristiano asked him and he really wanted to leave Juve. How is it possible that United continued to believe or doubt Ronaldo's tenure at Juventus?
