Why is no-one worried about him being 36? Isn't he too old now? What am I missing? Yes I know he looks after himself but that won't stop him getting slower.
He still runs at over 21mph and has the stamina to run as much as anyone in the game.

Ronaldo is as obsessed with his fitness and his overall game that he will likely keep being one of the best in the world into his 40s - much like LeBron James in the NBA. Every stat suggests he's closer to a 27 year old than a 36 year old. To add to that, during the very slow decline of his pace, he has become more efficient with his shooting, his passing and his dribbling.

In 2011 he scored 49 goals from 116 shots on target. 0.42 goals per shot on target. Last season he scored 29 goals from 60 shots on target. 0.48 goals per shot on target.

As many people have pointed out, Ronaldo's problem in Italy was never his own performance, it was the lack of supply.

Had City gotten him they would have run away with the league. Thank god he came home instead. We haven't had a striker like this since RVPs first season.

To me this seems a bit like a panic reaction from the Glazers being afraid of further protests if he joined City and a good way of making us believe we had a sensational transfer window. I would say we had a good one but not getting a midfielder in is a big issue.
City might have shown a bit of an interest with him being a stop gap for a year before they make another attempt of getting a top class striker next summer - if they had got him for free and on reduced wages. Also Pep would be ruthless enough to put him on the bench whenever he does not fit into his tactical approach for certain games.
And here is what worries me. Without getting into the next Ole debate I can see him starting Ronaldo each game no matter what. I believe he will score quite a good amount of goals but I do not think we as team will improve and earn more points or score more in total because of this signing.
Also his age might start to catch up now he has to play each week in the PL.
Will Ole have the balls and tactical vision to use him in the right way and substitute him when necessary?

I dreamt last night that United two days ago told us it wasn't a dream that we had signed Ronaldo.

Jonathan Wilson seems convinced he’ll make us worse, after making Juventus worse.

Apparently his “pressures” were consistently in the lowest 2% in Europe. That’s… not great?
It was only last season when Juventus really started turning shit, and Ronaldo scored 36 goals for them, so its a bit harsh to label it at Ronaldo's feet.

Because he isnt the same player that left here 12 years ago. He became more of a striker and with Juve he became and out and out striker. He can't beat a man through pace and trickery anymore but what he knows is how to create space in the box, how to get on the end of things, if there is a counter he is still pretty quick despite his age and can fashion a chance out. Basically he is what we want Mason Greenwood to become at the height of his powers. A sharpshooter that seemingly hits more than he misses.

Provide him service, which we really should be able to now with Luke Shaw, Pogba, Bruno, Sancho. And he will score 20 goals a season easily. As a striker, there is probably only a few guys better than him. Haaland and Lewandowski probably.

Hate that we have an entire international break before we can see him back in a United shirt, feels like it is forever already!
Just imagine the atmosphere in that home game against Newcastle though, its giving me shivers thinking about. If he scores too then wow.

Hard to deny some of the points in that article. Suddenly, we have become a club where glorious players who are past their prime come to retire, like Falcao, Zlatan, Cavani and now Ronaldo.

I'm sure Ronaldo will score some important goals, but he is a mismatch (along with Cavani) in the young squad that Ole was constructing.

Anyway, I am excited now that he is there and we can watch him play in Red again. Also, he will be a great influence and inspiration to our young forwards - Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, Sancho, Amad and James.

The only regret would be that we didn't sign a DM.

Well Falcao, if i remember right, was only 29 when he came. He was shit but he wasnt really a player coming here to retire for a year or two.
Both Zlatan and Cavani scored tons of goals and had great seasons. Ronaldo i'm sure will do the same.
They were stop gaps for sure, but i dont see anything wrong with that.

Falcao and Zlatan didn't retire at United. Falcao even went to sign for Chelsea.

Ultimately we have a very young and inexperienced team. Especially when it comes to winning trophies. This is fine if you manage to get the group over the line a few times and develop that winning mentality but when you constantly get to semi finals/finals, as we have been doing, or up to 2nd in the league, you must realise that the final piece may well be to add a bit more experience in key areas.

With Varane at the back and Ronaldo/Cavani at the opposite end we are well set to get some silverware whilst developing the younger players we have in and around them.

It's no coincidence that the Liverpool squad is full of players who are 30 or just over, the same way the Chelsea and City sides have some experienced title winners.

Jonathan Wilson is a complete moron IMO. His takes on the Guardian football podcast are always completely ridiculous regarding Utd.

For those worried about his age, take a look at Ibrahimovic. He's older, not as good and has had serious injuries yet he's played to a fairly high level at 36+.

The crazy thing of Ronaldo's fitness levels is that he still plays international football too.

Can't wait for that super charged headers. New dimension to the team.

You're defending corner against Ronaldo, Maguire and Varane.

When we're chasing a goal, put Cavani in that mix, it's basically cheating at this point.

36 goals for a poor Juve side yet it’s Ronaldo’s fault

Probably would have finished 10th without Ronaldo last season

Signing a 36 year old player in 99% of situations raises immediate and obvious concerns but this 36 year old is a freak of nature exception to the rule. He’s a walking incarnate of sports science porn.

Plus he doesn’t strike me as someone who’s interested in doing victory laps at the end of their career. He’s here to still go for Ballon d’Ors, Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues. No wonder him and SAF get on like a house on the fire. Both LOVE winning, not winning fecks with them and when they do win significant trophies like PL and CL, it’s a quick turnaround before they’re thinking of winning them again next season.

He's reportedly on £485,000 per week.

For each shirt sold, how much do you think Man United gets?
2 years at £485k per week is £50m. Add on the transfer fee, and the entire package for Ronaldo will cost us £75m.

Can Ronaldo generate £75m worth of sponsorship revenue, prize money and stock market uplift over the next couple of years? I'd say so, yes. Comfortably so.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he covers double the club's outlay.

The Juve team last season had no goal scorer. Look at the team. If they didnt have Ronaldo the season should have ended worse. Its easy to say that Ronaldo "took" the team goals and make himself look better but the reality isnt like that. They would struggle to replace the numbers Ronaldo had put out over the years, especially finding someone good enough to replace him for 28m (Ronaldo fee).

Agree. But just one thing, I don't see there is any problem for him in Italy at all. 101 goals in 133 games at age 33-36, is easily GOAT level at this age group, and also easily elite level among all top players in current game.

It will just make it all the more sweeter when he scores 60+ goals over the next 2 years.

I have to be totaly honest, i'd much rather this mixed reaction from salty jouno's over complete jizzism with the Ronaldo signing, he'd probably end up shit if that had happened.
I don't mind mixed reactions, as there's plenty of questions that needs answering. Like why we didn't have much of an interest a few months earlier.

It's just how shit Oliver Holt is and how lazy the writing is. It's like he's suddenly realized he has a paper due for class early next morning and he rushes it.

But in football terms, his signing by United feels like an admission of defeat. If United had wanted to move another step closer to winning their first title for nearly a decade, they would have moved for one of the men who have succeeded Ronaldo as the best striker in the world: Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland or Harry Kane. That didn't happen.

Mbappe is pretty much nailed on for Real Madrid, has been for some time, and PSG are turning down some pretty insane offers for a player that can move on a free next summer. Even if the fecker was interested in joining us, which he clearly isn't, we can't afford paying close to £150mill to PSG.

Harry Kane, Levy dislikes us more than City and they came up short with their valuations, which were hardly low. It's hardly a secret that plenty at the clubs, including Ole, are big fans of Kane, but he's one of the most difficult players to sign.

We're going all in for Haaland, next year, when he's actually available.

I mean, it's fairly fecking simple to summarize what's happened and why we've moved for some of these players over the years.

I love all this stuff cos the one thing Cristiano thrives off is sticking it to his critics. I hope they keep talking crap about him. It will just fire him up.

What’s the consensus with his legal trouble with the woman in Vegas? I only ask because I have city fans putting stories on Instagram saying they’re “disappointed” in people they know celebrating Ronaldo returning even though he’s a ‘Predator’.

Footballers are in much better shape now than 20-30 years ago. I remember when we signed Sheringham and the papers were aghast because he was 31 (which is absurd) but footballers in the 70s and 80s were piss-up merchants, most didn't look after themselves so didn't have the longevity. With the advances in sports science, nutrition, lifestyles etc there's no reason players can't play well into their 30s with a little injury luck. Ronaldo isn't a freak of nature but he is the hardest worker you'll ever see.
