So they instead paid 30m each for Vlasic from the Russian league + Zouma and want 100m for Rice...clowns :houllier:

Hope he goes elsewhere after he re-signs instead of them, got them European footy and they were still trying haggle for peanuts. Ungrateful and unserious lot
If this is true, I would suggest we were the ones who were the clowns

£25m for him given he has one year left on his contract was ridiculous. We should have let him go for less, its not as if anyone else seemed interested

But again you’re assuming that a) WH made a bid and B) he wants to go there
No I didn't assume that some club made a bid, I said why he isn't pushing for a move. All the reports say he is content with the role at ManUtd and will fight for his place.

Big contrast between him and James. One understands he won't get much game time and it's time to move on to play football, even if it is leaving a big club with an exciting squad and for a probable drop in wages.

The other just wants to hang around and be associated with a big club.
Nah, James will be getting a raise, no doubt about it. Anyone who gives Jesse a raise is either crazy, has a soft spot for him (ole) or probably doesn’t watch football all that much (Joel) I really wouldn’t be surprised to see us keep him on. We are so conservative when it comes to stuff like this. Rip off the bandaid and buy someone better in areas we are thin. It’s not rocket science!

I think it was obvious he was staying with West Ham not coming full in on him.
Dont like the idea of players staying to pick up the big money when they know they dont really have a future at the club.

I don't get this idea that Ole has a "soft spot" for Lingard. I've only seen Ole tear a strip off two players publicly on the pitch, Jones was one and Lingard was the other. Up to the point when stories began to emerge about family issues and his mental health, I thought Ole was losing patience with him and at the point of cutting him loose.
It looks more to me as if Ole is just being cautious about letting too many players go and overplaying the core squad the way he had to at times last season.
Given the price West Ham have paid for Vlašić, it doesn't look as if it was about money.

In form JL is a passable back-up for Bruno. Possibly the most suitable replacement no. 10 at the club. Question is: can he magic up some form when we need it after bench warming for the rest of the time?

When all are fit I doubt he’ll get any minutes at all. Does make you wonder if he is deluded enough to think he’ll get back in the team or just doesn’t care enough to go elsewhere for regular football.

Lingard cannot play against tight opponents. Give him open play and he might do well. Other than those leeds on crack, there is not a single team who would play an open game against united.

So what ? Are we going to use him now that he's staying ? He's an option regardless of us liking him or not.

nah id just rather have pogba in that role then and be able to use different wing players. Then as 3rd option you can just use VdB if it comes to that

Not surprised, this is on the board for having unrealistic expectations.

Should have sold him and recouped some money, then again that can be said for a few of the players.

Think he can do a job when we want to rest players in cup games.
If we're being honest here we'd have to be resting about 7-8 players for Lingard to get a start even in the cups.

If we had a lot of injuries or suspensions and had to rest fit players that's the only way I see him getting starts.

Should have cashed in on him, there's no reason not to sell him.
He was enjoying football at West Ham, now he will make a handful of rare appearances.
Lingard should've just handed in a transfer request to lower the asking price a little bit.

Not to this degree. He's probably 3rd option in number 10 position behind Bruno and Pogba. I can see him starting in some cup games when we want to rest both. Please don't say VDB, we all know he won't play regardless.

Fast forward to December: "Manchester United are delighted to announce that Jesse Lingard has signed a new, 3 year deal," and then sits on the bench for his remaining years at the club.

Wanted to see Hannibal get some minutes this season in cup games, feels very unlikely now when Lingard is staying.

Don’t understand the rationale here. He goes on a free next season doesn’t he? In which case we lose any transfer fee and pay him a few million in wages for maybe three or four cup appearances, where he won’t do well anyway because of his lack of game time.

He might play there but I assume Mata will be used at some point, Donny will also get games like he did last season and Sancho can play in there too. So unless we go far in the League Cup then I don't see him getting too much action.

He'll be offered a new contract soon going by our past behavior.

Either Jesse's trying to run his contract down to leave on a free or another possibility is United are trying to set a marker for future sales by not being bartered down on their valuation of him. Even if it means losing money on this deal.

I completely forgot Mata actually still exists. I think Lingard will be ahead of him in picking order though. I also think he'll be ahead of VDB in number 10.

Not sure Ole will ever play Sancho as a number 10.

United are supporting Mata doing coaching badges - that's the reason he's staying on despite limited playing time. Probably sees a longer term future at the club as a coach.

Wonder what future job we have lined up for Lingard since we’re not bothering to get rid of him.

I agree. It wont be a suprise if Lingaard is offered a 3 year deal just like other great contracts for Henderon, Jones. Matic and mata

You guys make me laugh, he will get a new contract with the same wages, so we can sell him, do you really think we'll let him leave on a free? Besides, he can useful on his day and this is going to be a long season, we are going to need all the help we can get. He'll barely play but he does give us great depth. He's a good player and a decent lad so I don't mind him staying around a bit longer.

These guys are like extras that you see on films/tv, only they get paid the same as the stars to make zero contribution. The contract renewal team needs sacking (unless these guys are that particular team)

Like he was vs Soton where completely pussied at the chance to play a diagonal long ball. If you enjoy supporting mediocrity then be my guest but im done with these pretenders.

Lingard, Mata and VDB.

All attacking midfielders, where the hell do they get game time
