Imo you simply can't change more than 3 players and expecting things would work as usual. And it's the first CL game of the season, a tricky away match, 3 pts is a must, everyone want to play.

    So imo:

    DDG
    AWB Varane Maguire Shaw
    Pogba Fred/VDB
    Greenwood Bruno Sancho/Lingard
    Ronaldo

We could rotate later into the season I think. It's still very early. VDB or Lingard might have a chance though.

We might not have the luxury of being able to rotate later on in the season. We dropped levels late last season. We simply can't afford that if we want to challenge. We have got to use our depth. This is a perfect opportunity. Early in the season or not.

We still have plenty chances to rotate, especially the home games. Away games are always tricky regardless of the opponent. We had a good lesson last year I think.

Yeah, we absolutely bottled it last season in the Champions League. But I'd argue we are much more capable this season, our squad is stronger and healthier. We've got to make better us of it this year.

I don't think Ole will make a lot of changes as he'll want to make sure we get off to a good start with 3 points on the board. Matic can't play back to back games so I think Fred will come in and hopefully Ole won't pair him and Pogba as it doesn't work.

    I think we’ll concede.

    I think we’ll score.

We’ll make hard work of it and grind something out hopefully. Not expecting us to blitz them.

We should win this fairly easily. I expect the same team that started yesterday. 3-0 Utd.

Ole will want a strong start in Europe. No more than 3 changes from the side that faced Newcastle. VdB hopefully will be one of them.

Not a game for rotation; this team barely know each other and have just come back from international break, so familiarisation is the order of the day.

Ronaldo will want top scorer and to add to overall tally, so I can envisage an all out tonking with players then being rested before 75 minutes are up.

Sancho needs the game to get his fitness that bit better and to connect more with his teammates in preparation for the next league game.

I think we’ll see a much more ruthless United this season and any team we can put to the sword, we will.

Where all these Henderson suggestions come from? We don’t need to rotate a goalkeeper

No taking chances after last year. Remember how Istanbul Basalsehir were ‘pushovers’ and we could afford to rest some players?

Go for 4 wins out the blocks, qualify and have 2 dead rubbers at the end.

It is quite critical we get out of the group we’re in. Us not getting out of that group would reflect very bad on OGS with the squad he has this season.

We rested our entire defence during the match that night

Would like to see Lindelof and Varane for this one, and Donny in for Bruno. No idea if Ole is one to rotate like that though.
Not yet. A new partnership this is the type of match where they (Maguire & Varane) should play together to further develop their understanding in a match where we should be dominating

The only change we should make from a strongest possible XI is VDB, because if anything will suit him it will be a game like this in the competition which made us buy him in the first place. So to echo what many seem to be saying:

    DDG
    AWB Varane Maguire Shaw
    VDB Fred
    Greenwood Bruno Sancho/Pogba
    Ronaldo

Wouldn't rotate too much, get the points in the bag early, and next time we play them we can experiment then. Getting out this group is an absolute must.

Such an annoying kick off time for those of us having to factor in commutes. Good chance I'm going to have to wait until this weekend to finally watch Ronnie live!

Clubs generally do rotate keepers for cup games. When we had Romero, he was the cup keeper while De Gea was the league one.

The CL might get treated different to the EL, FA Cup and League Cup when there's a gulf between 1st choice and understudy - but if we're going to keep two keepers of the quality of De Gea and Henderson happy, then I don't think we can just use one only for the domestic cups.

Obviously, if Henderson isn't fit to start yet, then we should definitely stick with De Gea and not unnecessarily use the 3rd choice Heaton in a competitive CL game.

Looks good. Sub off Ronaldo when he’s added another two CL goals

You only need to see what happened at that Istanbul team last season to know that this must be near full strength and on it from the start.

    DDG

    AWB
    Varane
    Maguire
    Shaw

    Fred
    Pogba

    Sancho
    Bruno
    Lingard

    Ronaldo

    0-3 win

I think will be the same team, just Fred for Matic. Ole is not a risk taker and will want to start the campaign with a win

So, a few points that will probably reflect the strong team selection from this game (so everyone can hopefully stop advocating mostly reserve line-ups):

    1. We play on Tuesday, West Ham (whom we play on Sunday) play on Thursday in the Europa League. No reason to rest many.
    2. It's an Away game in the Champion's League. Let's not forget that last season, we lost away to the group whipping boys and it cost us progression. It's pivotal we get 6 Points from the two games against Young Boys, as the other games will likely be much tighter.
    3. Momentum and fitness. We need to keep that feel-good factor now as the game against West Ham at the weekend will still be tricky.
    4. We can make FIVE SUBSTITUTIONS in this game. Half of the outfield players can be swapped. If we can get a two or three goal lead, sub off the important players for the weekend (Ronaldo, Bruno, Pogba, maybe Shaw and/or Wan-Bissaka etc).
Great post, agree with all above. Looking forward to it!
