The usual proof that ole needs his best players on the pitch pulling off individual magic to get good results, where as proper top class managers can rotate and still pick up wins with weakened sides.

Would be a shame to go out - chance of silverware/good comp to give players minutes in.

That said - if you're not winning the league cup, it's better just to bite the bullet and exit early.

    Looking for Eric
Poor slow start as usual and give a soft goal away. Noble commits miltiple fouls with no action from the referee and denies a certain penalty. Aimless crosses thrown into the box when we have little aerial threat.

I've genuinely enjoyed the game. Appart from the opening minutes, its been very solid.

Think Elanga can do some damage here. Ole probably subs on Bruno, Greenwood and Elanga during the 2nd period to get something
True. Mata should go and may be Bruno or Mason can come in at half time.

We need Elanga on the pitch - everyone is coming toward the ball centrally all the time. Mata has done okay but I’d take him off and stick Lingard central.
This is definitely the way we have to go on the 60min mark. Need to free up Lingard and add more pace to the team.

Right now I am unsure what it will take for Jadon's Utd career to really spark into life so if anyone has any ideas feel free to suggest

Shocking defending for the goal, No one within 5 yds of the scorer - Telles positional play looked shocking on other WHU attacks.
Our second string defence looks very very ring rusty.

DVB played well but guilty of ball watching for their goal, could he be an answer to our DM issues. Matic done ok, Mata a couple of decent strikes but knocked of the ball easily on other occasions..

expect to see some subs on 2nd half. Greenwood for Mata maybe as a starter.
wrong, he’s in the right place. unlucky deflection.

Average. Nobody been poor but nobody has stood out. Agree with the commentators though, our attackign players are coming to deep and not giving us any width. Lingard and Mata wondering all over the place.

Dony agree with the bring Bruno on messages, shouldnt be anywhere near this game, give the guy a rest. I expect to see Mcom, Greenwood and Elanga at some points in the second half.

If we show a bit more intensity which for me has been a problem all season despit eour possesion, there are definately goals for us in this game, we are too measured, slow and deep at the moment, but not awful

How the feck has Noble not been booked yet...I've counted 3 fouls, and a clear pen not given against him. Outrageous ref decisions once again.

Same old story. A team with inferior players in all 11 positions is managing to produce more than us. Same tepid start to a game. I wonder why...

Martial I cant stand his positioning and movement not good enough, hes playing as a forward so get in the box more!, I saw him standing waiting for ball to feet outside box while 4 or 5 players were infront of him

Dalot definitely has put in some good crosses with pace. Also, a very effective switch ball that somehow went uncommented on (no surprise there). The issue, as usual, is that without Cavani or Ronaldo we don't have players with any instinct, and also numbers in the box to attack them. We don't pack the box like City do, for example. You see it time and time again with them when the ball is outside right of the 18 yard, the players are already looking for the angled cross. With us, there's one, maybe two, but always looking to receive ball to feet and coming short instead of anticipating the deep cross.

Played quite well since the goal, if only we had come out from kickoff like that. They just ran past us easily to tap the ball in.

We need Greenwood on up front I feel.

How does Mark Noble always get away from being booked with all kind of clumsy fouls?

If we dont score in the next 10 minutes i hope we substitute Bruno and Greenwood for Mata and Sancho.

Mata doing ok but not enough.Telles with a mixed bag. VDB has done well, that will earn him more trust. Most of them have played well. But we just need more cutting edge.

Maybe greenwood for mata will make a difference. We might lose a bit of control but gain some threat.

I dont get why those are never given as penalties. If the defender doesn't get the ball and clatters into the guy shooting why is it never a foul?
It's one of those weird things in football. I have to assume it's intentional because these are never given but for the life of me I can't understand why.

We’ve reached semi finals in these cups pretty regularly, fielded weak teams often too.

Such a welcome thing to see a competent right back playing all kind of passes.

Think people are hugely overrating this performance against West Ham's 2nd XI. Honestly thought it was pretty rubbish, most players have been poor. Lingard's definitely been the standout for us. Our full backs have looked especially poor, and we are crossing the ball way too much. The good moments have been where we've just kept it simple and passed the ball. Mata's passing has been solid even if it hasn't been particularly creative. VDB has had some good and bad moments but he improved as the half went on, extremely poor for the goal. Matic has been good imo.

Martial made a decent run and has had a few chances to score but overall he's not offered much of a target to aim for up front (not that he should be used like that anyway). Sancho really poor again, he should be running the game against this level of team, not being put under pressure either as West Ham are mostly just sitting back, no real excuse for going into hiding here. I expect we'll get a goal soon, moreso down to West Ham just inviting pressure. Might need Greenwood and Bruno to come on to provide the breakthrough though as the creativity has been pretty nonexistant.
