I liked him and was disappointed when he left. He was never top quality but a very good player all the same. We missed him when he left because he was was an important part of the way we played and we didn't have anyone else that could replicate that.

Nothing's changed. He's still a good player but not a great one, but now he's in a better team.

Massively overrated on here. He also has a weirdly obsessive fan base on Tik Tok.

Not a bad player, but not much better than average. Very odd.

Not that hard to upgrade on Herrera, but we’ve managed not to in the last few years, somehow.
It's become pretty evident that simply isn't the case. The two previous managers tried to replace him, and he ended up becoming key players again under them. Not surprising he's not a big player for PSG too. Criminally underrated.

Football fans having over the top obsessions with individual players on social media is no longer weird, unfortunately.
Very true. I'm guilty of it myself.

Reo-Coker to United FFS, c'mon Ole. It's time. He's only 37 and with his physicality he could have kept going til he's 40

Still can't believe how many posters on here think that Fred is better. Madness. Herrera was a fan favourite for much of his time here for a reason.

How does he even start for PSG with this logic?

Danilo, Paredes, and Wjnaldum are all better than Fred and McTominay and its Ander starting for PSG instead of them, and being one of their best players this season

People were actually saying Fred is better, just can't believe it. His type of player and Gueye are needed in this PSG.
I didn’t see the whole game but my understanding is PSG are finally playing a back 5 with a billion pound team? I think that’s what they really needed. A more solid defence and some steel in the middle. play one or two less attackers.

He was probably one of their worst players yesterday, even had a Fred moment where he just passed the ball out of play under no pressure.

He does seem to be having a bit of an Indian summer. Fair play I suppose, it would've been easy to get lost in that team with all the big names coming in.
What was it Brian Clough said about great teams needing a blend of concert pianists and piano shifters? :D

He is important for the team. He makes teams better, was the same here. Not necessarily because he is outstanding, but i think he is a decent allrounder, that presses and does the dirty work on and off the ball. Add some intelligence and shithousery.

He is pretty clever as well. We played our best football with him on the pitch during his time here. People dont like to read that, but he made the team better. Some United fans have an irrational hate towards him, and i still son't know why.

I like him a lot. He’s not world class but he has good amounts of talent, versatility, and most importantly, shithousery to make him fun to watch.

Seems a strange time to suggest that when he's one of PSG's best players this season in what is probably their best ever team and the most likely champions league winners.
They weren't particularly amazing yesterday to be honest but what's wrong with thinking Herrera is a good but not great CM? He was the same for us.

Are they probably CL winners? Is this their best ever team? I guess they'll have to win the league and win the Cl to be that.

Much better than Fred, not much more needs to be said on that.

Eh? He was excellent. Doing so much of the dirty work. He was filling in all game at right back, and then PSGs furthest forward midfielder a moment later. He kept the ball well and had excellent off the ball movement, often creating space for others.

It's the way how our fans lick him whilst not realising he is the one who left us.

D*ck head.

They all will love herrera but for some reason will shove middle fingers at Pogba when he leaves. Just do it to both.

No one at PSG (bar maybe Verratti) kept the ball well. Herrera in particular was guilty of erroneous passes numerous times through the night

Nope. 4 3 3 but herrera plays on the right of the 3 and has to do the job of 2 men because messi doesn't defend. The right back is ridiculously attacking as well so he sounds alot of time sliding into rb.

He then magically seems to be in and around the box on every attack.

He got great awareness and ability to snuff out attacks. We miss a player like him massively imo. Someone with defensive positional awareness.

They werent amazing in beating City who are probably the 2nd strongest team in the competition 2-0?

Alright then. I guess the premier league is weak

Yes I've seen the match where the best lineup in the competition beat the 2nd best lineup 2-0

Clearly you havent if you think PSG had any average CMs out there. Average CMs would have been done and dusted against City, like many quality CMs are on a weekly basis

Ah Jeez, I remember you! This reply is less shocking remembering how hard you crusaded against Lindelof being obviously fouled by Diagne.
I'm assuming you're a wum with the above logic, if not I'll pray for you

Thats it try to distract from the fact you're suggesting an average team with average players beats City in the champions league, or gets to the final 2 years ago

Agree. People don't understand tactic. Herrera may not be a DM to cover the whole back 4, but he's tactically clever to be used to fill in and support defensive duty. Something I don't see we with Fred.

Herrera Pogba midfield may not be as good as Matic in good form and Pogba, but it was more functional than all the crap we have seen since. So again, it's very telling about Fred.

The best football we played under Ole when he was in his interim period is with Herrera and Matic as pivot to release Pogba. Herrera provides adequate pressing, mobility, link up play and with Matic pivot, it looked like we finally had a midfield we always hope for. Short lived of course, but better than anything since.

Not just that but has has an attacking threat with a great goalscoring record this season, and even for us came up with big goals and had a season where he got plenty of goals. Ander has qualities not just in defending, not just in running around a lot, but also in attack which allows him to do all of them in a team where he has teammates also doing those things. At PSG for example he has players like Gueye who does a similar job, or sometimes wins the ball even more than Ander and that means Ander doesnt have to worry so much about doing all the defending so he can get forward more and be that goal threat. At United he had to do the defending for Matic and Pogba, so of course in that system he was unable to get forward as much or score as regularly.

Anyone claiming Fred is better is either kidding or blind. Herrera is a very good player and an absolute cnut and it's better when he is your cnut.

Herrera was able to play as 6 and also played well with Pogba. Our issues was the attacking side.

If we had Herrera we would not be crying the importance of a midfielder and waited for the right midfielder.

Herrera passing was really good his issue was long passes. McFred can't even pass and gets overrun. Herrera in comparison to our midfielders he is the most press resistant. I don't if DVB is as we never see him play enough.

I could ask you the same thing!

I don't know how anyone could watch that game and compliment PSG or most of their players for being great on the ball
I don't know how anyone could read my post and come to the conclusion I said he was great on the ball. :houllier:
