Even the original sugar daddy Abramovich has made a profit on his investment. We live in an era where digital tokens with no real value are being traded for millions. You better believe football clubs with large fan bases, TV revenues and sponsorships are capable of being profitable investments even if the initial outlay is seemingly massive.

Nah, people talk shit but this won't be "the end of football" for anyone.
It’s very rarely “the end” but I think it will be another event that dilutes a lot of peoples interest.

My Dad went to matches religiously for years but the money that came into the game meant he stopped going. Still watches on Tv though.

Every generation will go through a period when their passion wanes… rarely to 0% though. It’s a bug? :)

They don't give a feck, we're clutching at straws if we're expecting them to be swayed by Amnesty International
One of the Man City owners half brother tortured a farmer to death in the desert for 2 hours with a cattle prod on video. Football, ethically, is beyond saving. And Chelsea fans will defend Abramovich with every hypocritical bone in their body despite his links to the KGB and the subsequent stealing of the wealth of the Russian people by him and the Putin Pals. The justifications will always come out like "but other billionaires... But man United started it... But but but" because we are partisan and loyal and we have sunken cost fallacy given our years of support to (insert X team here), but it absolutely stinks to me, and a lot of people. The Manchester United fans played a HUGE part in stopping the super League and expressing their displeasure regards the American owners. I'm immensely proud of them for that. But I have no illusions about other clubs support and what they will say about this deal.

Most football fans love their team and stick with them through thick and thin.

Most football fans also like a melodramatic whine from time to time!

You can't quit, it's like the Mafia.

Yeah I know we spend a lot, it just irks me that this great club have to function in spite of the owners taking money out instead of an owner pumping money into us like these other teams.

To me it doesn't matter if we spend as much or more than the others if could be spending a lot more. How much further along this rebuild would we be and how many trophies have we missed out on by not operating to our fullest potential like other clubs like Madrid, Barca, City, Chelsea, PSG.

In my opinion the dip after Sir Alex would have been a smaller than it has been.
Most owners don't want their club to be a liability unless you are mad rich. Did Perez use his own money? Does Bayern and Barcelona's owners use their own money? I always thought it better if clubs are self sufficient and non reliant on owner "donations" especially if the owner is dodgy

Virtually every early report is that they (PIF & co) have not set out to plough in £500m in the next few windows or whatever. And - bar the odd muppet here and there every fanbase has - toon fans are perfectly fine with that. Having a club that just shows a willingness to grow and maintains some ambition, after 14 years of just existing-to-exist under Ashley, is all we're hoping for.

Did you think I was lying when I said "I'm not going to get into an argument, this isnt the thread for that?"
Why did you tag me in the first place then?

Either way whether you want to get into it or run away means little to the truth. Chelsea is worth more than Abramovich invested = profit. No reason why Newcastle can’t do the same.

If this goes through and Newcastle do end up winning a title I think I’ll be done with football tbh. It’s already nowhere the same this would just be the final nail in the coffin.
But F1? But boxing? But City?

It’s a bit sad, you can understand them being over the moon Ashley is gone. However, opening the House of Saud with open arms is disgusting.

I mean real sugar daddies. You need a billion to sit at this table.
Oh, you mean YOUR definition of a sugar daddy?

Walker was worth hundreds of millions decades ago and bought most of that title winning team including smashing the record for Shearer, then 21. Then smashed it again for Sutton.

Just because it’s not in recent memory doesn’t make it valid.

How about real world examples then? Kroenke recently turned down a 2b offer for Arsenal. No way Chelsea go for less as they are worth significantly more.
There's a difference between valuation and what people would be willing to pay.

Look at United, we're valued so high that barely anybody can afford to buy out the Glazers because their returns would be terrible compared to buying a cheaper club with bigger potential for returns like Newcastle.

Nobody is going to give Roman what Chelsea is valued at or more, it just doesn't make sense financially at all.

But the key is they operate to the absolute maximum potential. They don't have owners at the top taking out their share first before seeing what's left for transfers.

Bayern aside who are run impeccably and who stand pretty much alone in that regard.

Can’t wait to hear True Geordie’s thoughts on this. That guy has been slating the feck out of City and their ownership for years, I suspect he’ll change his tune very quickly now.

This means that we're set to be owned by the likes of the Glazers for a long long time.

So how come Kroenke was able to turn down a 2b offer for Arsenal, a club that is financially worse off than Chelsea? Why would Kroenke even turn down that offer if he didn’t think it was worth more? And if Arsenal is worth more than 2b how can Chelsea not be?

Sell Martial to them for £90 million. They'll need to go through their Elano/Robinho/Jo phase before they hit David Silva/Aguero/Yaya Toure.

As much as I want the Glazers to feck off they weren't a problem the summer gone and delivered on most promises. Time will tell if our management can deliver now.

The Saudi’s could buy Abu Dhabi and Qatar they have so much money. Mansour and cronies talk in billions, Saudi’s in Trillions. They are venturing into football to eventually make money by investing money. It’s called business. The fact that it’s Newcastle is almost irrelevant. They have a good fan base and most wouldn’t give a monkeys that the Crown Prince allegedly order the murder of that Journalist bloke. City fans do are about the Human Rights abuses and trafficking of young boys in Abu Dhabi and neither will UEFA or the PL who just see the ££££signs. Morals and football don’t mix. This takeover will go ahead and in three or four years time, the Toon will have a good team and a few years later, a state of the art stadium as Old Trafford is falls down. I heard the Saudi’s are starting a sport tv channel to buy the rights to PL football so SKY and BT won’t want the deal to go through either.

At this point it's just another mega rich owner in a pool of mega rich owners.

We just need to concentrate on what we are good at - honing young talent, building from the ground up.

There's only so many big fish you can buy, let city, psg, newcastle etc chase the biggest fish, while we create our own.

I didn't say Chelsea would be worth less than Arsenal though, I just said that nobody's going to be dumb enough to pay what Roman wants for Chelsea because it's much cheaper to buy an underperforming club who has bigger potential for commercial returns.

While I do agree with you that it doesn’t make sense, this ignores the fact that someone did in fact offer 2b for Arsenal. So we do actually have a market price to work with. And it’s also worth noting that the 2b offer was rejected, and that Chelsea would be worth more.

Come on now, our ethos hasn't been about building from the ground up for a long time.

Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer. They've all spent ludicrous amounts to get us back to the top.

Like Manchester?
Manchester is actually decent thesedays...loads of development and it's cosmopolitan. And aside from the locals Newcastle is a nice looking town.
Well it was voted the 3rd best city in the world in a recent survey.
Londoner here. Manchester is my 2nd fav City and if I didn't live down here it would be up there and this is nothing to do with United. Even my mother said she loves Manchester.
