Why so many knee-jerk reactions and negativity 7 games in?

SAF was 100% more "freestyle" in his approach than these modern system managers that was mentioned and honestly it was the thing that made us so great. We played to the strengths of our squad and our players were free to express themselves and we often lined up in different formations depending on the team we fielded

The difference between now and then was the intensity and quality of what we did with and without the ball
That way doesn't work anymore, coaching has improved a lot since then, it's simply not good enough.

I'd be interested to hear from the op what the arbitrary number of games is before it's not considered knee jerk.

Why are guys knee jerking. We just started the season. We need some patience. All we need let the team become stable and sign 2 more midfielders next summer. Then let them adjust to our team. By that Ronaldo, Cavani and Pogba would have left . So we might need 2 more players again to challenge and then we will wait another couple of years.

Ole is still the man though. He gets the club.

I'm not saying you're suggesting SAF is Ole. I'm saying that he’s not is the point you're missing. Arguing that Ole plays a similar system to SAF therefore may also succeed is like saying Hassenhutel plays a similar system to Klopp and therefore is as good a manager. It's flawed logic.

There are basically two questions at play here. 1) Can a more improvised, player led style of football trump the system based managers we see these days at all and 2) Can Ole in particular do it? Invoking SAF answers neither of these questions.
And that's fair enough, so let me try and address your questions directly

(1) Given the plethora of data at the disposal of managers today and the general outlook of sports casters and fans alike, I do agree that in the short term that a player led system with less cog like efficiency is likely to produce results only if the players that are given that freedom are within the top 5% of their roles. Having players that are below this level leads directly to less favourable positions and ineffective results. I'd argue that we're dealing with that though and that given time and patience we will fill in those areas that are lacking and come good. Others dont' want to wait for that or have no faith of it coming good, I get that, but I didn't grow up with instant gratification and I've never really fallen into that world... those who have are never going to wait.

(2) I believe he can do it yes, I could be wrong but thus far whilst his results have not yet gained us silverware they have shown a continuous (albeit slow) improvement from the moment he took over. One might argue that there are others who could have produced results faster, indeed there are those who argue that this is as far as the current management can take us but I've yet to see why exactly that is. Whilst improvement may be slow, slow improvement is usually the type that sticks for longer too. So I'll be patient.

Finally, as for invoking Sir Alex, I didn't... he'd been brought up already in this thread as a rod to beat the manager with, I simply pointed out that the manager sets himself up to play in a particular way and that unless you can find another manager that sets up the same way but with better results. I'm happy to keep the one we have... as has already been observed by many, the alleged top managers in the world right now all play football that we as a club have shunned and disliked as a fan base for years. If this is the best manager for our style and setup, then we should keep going with it until either a) we win something and everyone gets behind him or b) someone else with the same format comes available that has a better record than our current manager.

Pretty obvious where this season is heading.
In a few weeks, we will be told we were wrong to demand a title challenge in the first place.

Relax. We're level on points with the league leaders.
Relax. We're only two points behind the league leaders.
Relax. We're only four points behind the league leaders.

You can guess where this is going.

The PL title or even challenging for it is overrated. Top 4 is where it's at, friend.

Didn't you hear the away reds chanting Ole's at the wheel? Stop complaining and get in line with all the other positive people. who are also completely delusional

We have overtaken Liverpool as the most delusional fan base in the world. Majority still think Ole is competent. The worst thing that has happened to the club in the past 12 months was extending the contract of this incompetent excuse of a manager. Can't wait for him to be sacked and I really hope luck doesn't save him this time.

Ole is slowly rotting us away. Has all the players he wanted and we still are absolutely garbage.

Knee Jerk? Have you been watching these matches or just looking at the results afterwards? Bearing in mind this is a squad of serious undoubtable talent, we have been very lucky to get away with some draws or slender wins.

Leicester, Villa, West Ham, Southampton, Wolves, Everton have all massively outplayed us so far and we haven’t even played the likes of City, Liverpool or Chelsea yet. This isn’t knee jerk, this is watching a car crash with ole at the wheel.

We've been playing shit for a while now. I don't know why people are saying this is knee jerk.

Ole chose not to strengthen the centre of midfield. He's had half a dozen transfer windows during his time here.

Lately without even 10 games played yet (In the PL), there is so much negativity and pessimism on the forum?

Like it's almost as if you'd think we're in a relegation battle, even after finishing 2nd last year, and yes I've heard all the excuses as to why we finished 2nd and why it was nothing to do with Ole or the players and in fact more to do with the teams around us. I mean we deserve some credit can't make up excuses for every single positive thing that United do. Anyway, there seems to be a lot of talk and dislike towards the manager. Now more than ever it seems as I'm perplexed as to why? Why now of all times, why right this moment?

We're not in free fall by any means and yet the feeling around the fans on here anyway is that we're in some sort of disaster mode. Even news that Phelan, Carrick, McKenna are getting new contracts somehow comes back to Ole and fake, patronising praise for the club.

The season has just begun and I'll say it again, people are getting really upset to the point where from the outside looking in, looking at people's reactions to news, it seems as though we're flirting with the bottom 3.

It's the international break too, which doesn't help things either.

We’ve had a hilariously easy start to the season. A very weak CL group compared to what we could have gotten. It only gets worse from here.

Thoroughly outplayed - again. That's the important bit. We've been getting consistently outplayed for almost 25 odd matches now (since around March of last season).

Signings haven't helped. And we're getting worse.

Ole will be gone Christmas, but it's already too late.

HELLO
That's at a minimum the third time we could've conceded 4 this season- wolves, villareal.
