I fear for the sanity of anyone thinking Ole is close to the sack. Think we're months away from that unless the next month goes as badly as on paper it looks like it might.

On the bolded though, how much time should we give them?

Because I like the idea more of one of the German/Dutch up and comers but they aren’t going to hit the ground running.
There are tons of examples of managers kicking off right away. Tuchel is one, Galtier took over relegation threatened Lille side that made them 2nd the next year and then won the title over PSG.Gasperini took relegation threatened Atalanta side and made them CL regular side within year or two.

just how many excuses will the Ole cult come up with to make him look like a better manager? He has spent half a billion and won absolutely nothing. Spent more than Jose, more than LvG. We have a bigger salary cap then ever, a stick that was usually used to beat Jose with.

in modern football you don’t need a decade to make it work. Unless you are a PE teacher that learns on the job.

No one will take you seriously when you think replacing a manager who’s been in the job for almost three years is “knee jerking”. Also, yes it is a gamble to change a manager at any point. There are unknowns. But keeping Ole is a known quantity now, after almost 3 years in charge, nothing new is coming. He’s not suddenly going to become a different manager or approach things differently.

So should we take a gamble by hiring a proven manager who has shown capabilities to go beyond what Ole can do or should we stick with what we have when it is blindingly obvious that it is lacking?

To me the choice is obvious, but I can see how a more pessimistic take would be, “Jesus, it might even get worse under a new manager! Let’s stick to the mediocrity we know”
The point is though (which is something i agree with) is that even if he deserves to be sacked, its not necessarily the smart thing to do unless we have a viable replacement in place

Ole looks to be out of his depth for sure, but sacking him now "just because" and then ending up with a caretaker could actually make things worse. There is nothing that suggests Zidane wants the job and Conte is mental. I guess we could take a punt at a young manager, but we never know how that is going to work out.

Just to be clear, not suggesting we should be "settling" for Ole for all eternity, but we really need to get our next appointment right and that takes time

We are comparing Ole with the lows of Moyes, LVG and Jose when they were sacked and think it is not as bad. We will eventually get there in 2 months time loitering close to 8th position and CL group qualification hanging by the thread.

A long road back for Ole I think and possibly no road back. The team are literally walking asleep through the motions on the pitch. No pace, no urgency, bloated in the wrong areas, light of genuine workers and world class players in others. Watching the game yesterday It's a different Sancho out on the left compared to the one in Dortmund. Nice deliberate passes into Shaw, back into his own half, wonderful success rate. Going forward, he looks shit scared.

As a team we are completely useless against a high press aggressive team. Probably our best defensive midfielder to break play up and play through the lines is Matic but cannot be counted on for 90 minutes.

Genuinely believe the club will have been stabilised and in a MUCH better position when Ole leaves compared to when he walked through the door but sadly they are all going through the motions. If results and performances continue, I don't think they will pull the trigger after Liverpool game but the next international break in November will be interesting.

Yeah, wasn't that after a bad CL defeat ?
They got pummelled by Eintracht in the league, 5-1 after Boateng red early on. Their main competitor - Dortmund were 6th, just for reference.
Top clubs aren’t afraid to pull the trigger, it’s just United.

Why should they have been critical of the club after they both did a terrible job and were backed with a considerable amount of money? They only became critical due to the shit jobs they did.
LVG and Jose did a shit job for the same reasons.

Firstly they played outmoded football. Jose finished second to a high press team. If City and Pep didn't exist he would have won the league. But they did exist and he didn't.

Secondly the Glazers didn't allow them to buy enough good players in the right positions. Instead player purchase was done by a committee dominated by accountants.

Both these things are still true with Ole and will be true with his successor most likely. And this is why sacking him might make a short term difference and salvage a top four place, but it will put us back in the same mess in a year's time. And the owners won't care.

Calling for the manager's head like a fantasy football playstation owner or swearing loyalty to him like a top red is to buy into a false narrative of what the actual problem is.

I don't expect a new manager to be an instant success and us to be on top of the world straight away, but I'd expect to see the plan and system they look to implement fairly quickly, and that's not asking a lot. We're still waiting to see what Ole's vision is for the way we play, we're never getting that.

Our season will be a lost cause if we leave the rot as late as December. It's still October right now. We can still secure top 4 if we act soon enough.
Nothing would be better than him turning things around. At this point I just can’t see it. I hope I will be proven wrong.
Many people said exactly the same this time last season, in fact we had a much worse start but Ole turned it around and we were top of the league by Xmas so he deserves a chance to do it again

I have to respect you having the guts to post when most of his biggest supporters on here have finally seen the light

How on earth those highly intelligent people (Top Management) continuously making mistake after mistake? We have had Moyes, LVG, Jose and Ole in charge who needs different set of players all together every 2 or 3 years. The worst part, all of them play fecking negative football.
They are only mistakes if you assume their main priority is winning silverware. Once you realise they just want to keep the fans happy enough to keep shelling out while maximising their own revenue, you will realise it is all part of a strategy and the fans are being played for fools.

Zidane. And then ten Hag next season. Enough of the shite we've been served post Fergie.
Sounds realistic.

Realistically by the time Solskjaer actually goes the goals will at best be finishing in the top four and (hopefully) doing something in the CL.

So essentially the same scenario Tuchel took over, looking for a similar impact (though actually expecting to win the CL is OTT given how much luck is involved).

In other words it's not like the new manager will be expected to do everything this season. They'll have the rest of this season to make improvements through coaching, then a summer transfer window to better mold the team into the shape they want, a full pre-season to keep working on the side, then be expected to challenge for major trophies next year. It's not that tall an order.

However long it takes us to accept Ole needs to go to salvage top four, I don't particularly mind. Nor do I mind them taking time to find the right appointment. What would infuriate me beyond belief though is waiting until top four is actually gone and we have no CL football next year before doing anything. A CL-less 22/23 season should be viewed as something we take action to avoid, not something that prompts us to take action once it's guaranteed.

While this is generally true, I think when Tuchel became available we were 1st in the league? Nobody except maybe Perez or Roman would pull the trigger at such a point.
Did anyone really think that there was any chance we would compete? Both the eye test and the data (xG etc), was showing that clearly was not gonna happen.

I agree that SAF is having a big say on things regards Ole, was going to post something similar recently.

Everybody here knows better than Sir Alex then
Sir Alex chose Moyes and most people did know better.
Being a great manager doesn’t mean you can pick a great manager, if anything his choices (Moyes, Ole) suggest he doesn’t give himself enough cre

I think Sir Alex will only change his stance should a candidate who really suits the club become available, much like sections of the fanbase like myself who are more concerned with making the wrong appointment than we are desperate to get rid of Ole.

The former would be much more detrimental than the latter. I think Sir Alex knows that and he’s more ruthless than anybody when it comes to what’s right for the club.
Of course the wrong candidate would be horrendous, but we’ve had Tuchel, Rose, Poch, Nagelsmann all move on since the Ole experiment started. It’s the club’s fault we’re running low on exciting options.

We could always appoint Teddy Sheringham.
He knows the club.
DNA etc.
Legend from '99, scoring in the final and laying on an assist for another bloke.
Has managed mighty Stevenage and ATK of India.
Has never got anyone relegated.
What could possibly go wrong?
Yes without him we would not have won the CL that season. He put the ball in the Germans net for the first time. He created the the second goal to be put in the Germans net too. We should appoint him as he knows the United way and the Spurs way. In fact he knows so much about the United way, the first time he came back to OT he was walking towards the home bench to sit down when he realized that he was on the away team. What can go wrong with Teddy at the wheel?

You say Potter has done nothing to suggest he can manage United? What has Ole done prior to getting the job to deserve it?
See I know you're trying to prove some kind of point here but fact is all you're highlighting is why I'm right

We've hired one unproven manager in Ole who's failing and people are suggesting we should hire another

Yes I agree but supporters en masse don't care about this, and there would have been another revolt because we are sentimentality fc.

I think this is his last week at the club. Such a shame because I feel he's been a positive influence on the team but this is as far as he can go.
Not a chance this is his last week. I can see us losing the next 5 games and he will still be there. Match going fans will chant his name and all will be seen as a blip.
I honestly think he will be here until we can’t get top 4. Even then, he may still be here.

You were banned for the insulting language, not for suggesting he should get the sack.

Non Man United fans like us (rightfully) have a higher bar when it comes to that sort of thing
What a load of $hit. I don't mind someone being banned for abusive actions but to suggest that "non Man United fans like us" have a higher bar, is taking the piss.

Don't discount the noise coming from the the online fanbase. If we lose and drop points against the likes of Pool, Spurs, and Chelsea, it will just compound already growing support to replace him. There will be a tipping point moment - perhaps after getting humiliated against Pool or Chelsea, where support to remove him will be so overwhelming that the club would be forced to act.

I lowkey cringe every time they sing his name after a player scores. It's actually sad.

I‘m quite stoned, so this could be on me. But how in the world can there be 90,2% here who want him to leave and 11,6% want him to stay? Again, stoned and all. But those numbers don’t quite add up.

The poster you quoted said he wants a young and progressive manager not necessarily proven. There are loads of managers that fit the bill and one of them is Potter. I can list you many others that also fit the bill.

I forgot to turn off the feature that forces people to only vote for one option, so you may see results that don't add up exactly to 100%. Its not much an issue given that it wouldn't change the fact that about 90% of respondents want him gone.

and a few players do need calling out so he’d be right to do so, but Neville has already said Ole needs to deliver a trophy this year following the investment.

The narrative has changed across the piece, including Nev.
Not just a trophy. But to vastly improve the standard of coaching and workrate of the whole team. And to actually get us to play as a Team.
Just do the basics properly and consistently.
Not too much to ask.

Yes but the three years you mention have at least brought continued improvement in the squad and slow progress in league position.

It’s not like he’s started well and gone completely backwards.

On your last paragraph, that’s the fear some of us have. If we were to bin Ole now and hire Conte I would be very concerned the net result of that could be a huge overall negative from the footing we are on now.

We’ve almost completely rebuilt the squad, if somebody like that tore that up and we went in a totally different direction and then he leaves we would be set back years. That’s the concern and it’s a valid one.
I think the “rebuild the squad” argument is thinner than it looked a few months back. Theres a lot of quality there now for sure, but the squad is extremely unbalanced. Not just the lack of midfielders, but too many attackers who by design aren’t hard workers. Too many Nani’s not enough Ji Sung-Parks. A new manager coming in isn’t just getting a new midfielder or two in. They’re going to have to rebalance the attack too. So while we’re definitely better off than we were, we’re not in a position where one person slots in and it’s done. We’ve got quite a bit more wheeling and dealing to do.

Extending his contract really was a baffling decision. What was the reasoning behind it? Having a year left seemed the ideal situation to me. The board could have kept their options open and made it clear to Ole that if he kept showing progress and maybe challenged for the title or a cup then he'd get an extension. Instead, we gave him (and his staff) an extension and are now in the situation we're in. Because of the extension, I don't think there's a chance he's sacked any time soon. The board would essentially be admitting that they don't know what they're doing.
