Even Leeds are making fun of us. And I don't think we've reached the bottom of the barrel yet.

Could be tough considering that there is a high chance that the new manager would take a totally broken squad (maybe 1 win in the last 8 matches, with two humiliations from our biggest rivals), and needs to prepare Arsenal, Villareal and Chelsea matches immediately after the international break, so with only 2-3 days with the players.

It is better to give to him 2 chances (against Atalanta and Villareal) than one chance. Dunno how the board doesn't see it, but then, dunno how the board did not see the Ole fiasco.
Plus, a new manager would want to introduce a system and not have to rely on Moments and Vibes FC. That takes time. Time which we have precious little given the fixtures. Now is that time. The more the board delays, the more we lose our chance to fight for the only thing we can fight this season.

Because Ole seems to have gotten away with it this week, I don’t see him being sacked after the Spurs or Atlanta games due to quick turnover. I think we are looking at the international break. I would have preferred to make the change this week if are going to do it.

I'm fascinated by the reasoning behind letting Ole keep the job longer until we hire someone else. So you want him to do a caretaker role knowing that most people including the players don't think he's up to par and tactically good enough? Is something going to change?

Personally i'd take the chance on fresh ideas for a couple of games from anyone rather than persist with something that doesn't work if we are in the waiting game. Not sure why we would want to wait though and potentially lose players and confidence in the overall squad.

People want Ole gone now, rather than in 3 games time, because the mere prospect of being out of the Champions League at the group stage again is too much to bear. Seems utterly bizarre to hold this view and want a guy who finished third and bottom in his last two CL campaigns, despite the advantage of being a genius tactician who'd have us purring in a matter of weeks, to come in at the same time.

Same goes for the whole losing a European final thing when Conte a) got knocked out of the CL at the group stage and b) lost the Europa League final at the end of that season himself.
I get that, but why would it bother you? You were fine dressing up shit on a stick football under Ole as good football and saying he’s doing a good job after spending 440m+ and achieving very little.

Let Conte bomb in Europe. He might actually win a league title, or damn sure get closer than we can currently dream under our current management.

If anything, our fans have been very patient with Ole (especially the wise ones who were shutting down anyone complaining about Ole as recently as last week), and I’m sure they’ll give Conte plenty of time to figure it out in Europe, just like they did with Ole.

It's staggering really. They could make someone caretaker even if we end up getting an interim manager. But to keep him there when everyone knows the writing's on the wall, including the whole disillusioned squad, is asking for more trouble.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

Sounds like accepting mediocrity to me. If useless Ole can take over a broken squad far inferior to this one and win 10 in 11 including Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea away then surely a world class manager like conte/whoever else will have no issue.

This is why hiring legends etc is a really bad idea. Clouds so much judgement.
If this is true, what the hell does Sir Alex see in Ole that we don't? I just don't get it.

If the club really is seriously going to see if he can turn things around in 3 games then I have no hope left for United.

Why though? They've conceded about a dozen goals in the three games they faced Ole.
We spends lots of money and fully backed him and we suck relative to that investment.

It's all about expectations and optics.

Releative to where we should be we are shite. Still better than most but shite relative to our spending and supposed ambition

Down to 88.2% now. That’s a .5% decrease today alone. This means in 160 days all of us will be behind Ole!
About 330 non utd supporters and 8 that will follow Ole blindly no matter what, because hes the Utd way and scored THAT goal 22 years ago.

They clearly just need time to find/decide a replacement, the writing is on the wall. They just cant get an interim manager om a days notice which is also understandable

It would be fascinating if it’s what was happening. It’s not though. We just have an incompetent board who don’t know what they’re doing, have made no contingencies and are simply hoping everything just fixes itself because the only football people they know are old United people who’re still backing Ole out of loyalty and bloodymindedness.

88.7% now. Fraction more want Ole to stay compared to yesterday.
I do wonder how there are genuinely 338 people that want him to stay. They're not all rival fans right?

The only thing SAF doesn't realize is that you need to be an exceptional manager to pull off what he did. Ole isn't one

Imagine that nearly 90% of fans want him out yet those in charge of the club still keep him employed.

Surely the fans views should count for something.

Just ask Phelan to take the reigns for a few games. Ole is a lame duck.

Sounds like giving the new manager (and as importantly, the club) an extra chance.

Pep Guardiola lost in Camp Nou against a promoted team his first match in charge. He barely got a draw in the second match. Needed extra time to win the third match. And then won 6 titles that year. A manager can be great, but struggle in his first few matches.

I really don't want to see Ole going out there for a couple of games and being mocked, the club hierarchy need to grow one and sack him now. Anything else is spineless and shameful.

That is the problem with Sir Alex. He looks at things like well if I lost a match 5.0 I would then go on a ten match winning streak and win the league with games to spare.

He doesn't seem to get that was him he is a genius Ole is well Ole

I'm getting Steve Bruce at Newcastle vibes with Ole now, its sad to see. He's been done no favours by United during this whole ordeal and the entire media and footballing world are compounding his humiliation, and its driving our fans to toxic levels of contempt. Just put the poor man out of his misery. I'm all for the patient approach of finding the right manager, but bring in an interim in the meantime.

I don't think some people realize how much stock Woodward and others at the club put in the Ole basket.

If he’s truly lost the dressing room which is a high possibility what do our hierarchy think will happen against Spurs and City. I think we’re at the stage the iceberg has hit the titanic and it’s not yet sunk, just a mad panic of the realisation we’re going to sink but don’t realise there’s not enough life boats.

I've thought about this a bit. The only way not sacking Ole makes any sense is if some of the rumors are true: Zidane has no interest. They don't like Conte due to his style of football (and he wants a decently long-term contract, and they don't want to use an interim because they feel Ole isn't 'that bad." And maybe they are still deciding on who to bring in such as Ten Hag and they know he won't come until the season is over. Basically making Ole the interim without saying it.

Can I ask how you are undecided?

Obviously everyone has their opinions but I truly can't understand anyone who even considers that he should get another game.
Clutching at straws maybe? Or remembering how good it was at the beginning and those good moments that were better than anything we'd seen since Fergie.

But I no longer understand Ole...he's given very few opportunities to many of the younger players, and we should have been using both Sancho and DVB more, because you can't make judgements on them based on the small amount of game time they've played. And Amad surely deserves a chance? But it's the same players recycled over and over again when it's crying out for change.

Say that's true, and it's very understandable that a club needs some time to address a situation like this, let alone a club known for having no succession planning, if Ole has lost the dressing room almost anyone from within the club would make more sense as a very temporary caretaker until they either hire a new manager or get in an experienced interim manager.

Would the players want to bail him out? Is it just fine to risk qualifying from the CL group?

He didn't demand drinkwater or bakayoko he wanted someone else but Chelsea board signed them.

So they paid him the price of one dvb to get rid of him? Not that bad if it doesn't work out in the next 7 months then
Nah disagree with that. He publicly said he wanted Drinkwater (because he partnered Kante at Leicester) and Bakayoko.

In a sense yeah getting rid of misfiring managers is pretty cheap compared to player wages. We should be more ruthless there.

My problem with this is that the club's reservations worry me. Partly because I don't trust the incompetent set-up that runs this club, but partly because of the media leaks. It seems Conte wants to introduce his own backstaff and the club is once again protecting the mates. It's highly likely that Conte would want to get rid off Carrick and McKenna, and rightly so, but Mates FC sticks for its mates. Of course, he'd want control of the transfers, how much control is anyone's guess. But that IMO is also a good thing because Fletcher literally has zero experience at the job and Conte's transfers throughout his years has mostly been hits.
Agree 100% that the club management is incompetent and I trust Conte more than I trust these jokers in charge. If they were even semi competent, we wouldn't have given Ole that new deal and we wouldn't be scrambling to find new managers now. Seriously who doesn't have a Plan B when things go south? How can they just assume Ole would do an amazing job this season when there were so many question marks even last year? They were so clueless that until last week we were discussing Carrick / McKenna renewals.

Re: the backroom staff, the lesson from the Moyes appointment was to have continuity and to not get rid of everyone who knows how the club is run. I'm only a software engineer but my experience of corporate life says that you can't introduce wholesale change like that. Keep the low level grunts, replace a little bit of the upper management and let them decide who to keep, who to fire slowly over a couple of years. In our case, keep Phelan, get rid of McKenna, Carrick, Ole and let Conte bring in a few of his guys. I'm sure they can work it out.

Conte agreed to part ways with Inter for 7 million, so there's that. Also, that's not true. Conte is not a crazy spender like Jose. He'll work with what he has, but he would expect ambition, yes, like any top manager in the world. You think Guardiola works on a shoestring budget or something? His transfer spending at Juve, Inter and Chelsea has been entirely reasonable and this club if nothing else, loves to throw absurd amount of money at things.
I have no problem with his spending if the club really believes he's the right guy for the job. Everyone has hits and misses. I just don't want a half hearted decision to get Conte because of a shock result and because no one else was available and then to sack him again two years later after investing heavily in the squad again.

I've no good answer for that. It only makes "some sense" not a lot.

Agree with the rest, but I disagree here. When Moyes came in, he got rid of a title winning staff, that knew the culture of the club from top to bottom, and replaced it with his Everton mates who had won diddly squat for their entire career. What Conte is going to do is replace our absolutely incompetent staff that has delivered absolute shit for 3 years with people that have won titles, cups and have years of experience at a top level. It's not the same. I'd only keep Phelan in because of his experience and because he knows the culture of the club from the Fergie days to Ole's crap. Eventually you can phase him out as well because I have zero idea what Phelan is doing right now except be a mascot. But the club absolutely has to get rid of McKenna and Carrick. There's no place for sentimentality here.
