Conte won't go to Spurs if he thinks that the United job is imminent, and the Ole debate won't be settled for a few more weeks yet, so he won't go there quickly. United have City, Chelsea and Arsenal to come. Ole could be sacked before those games are through if he loses them all. But if he gets through those in decent form, then no-one can say how long he'll be around for.

Assuming he's interested in Spurs at all, that is. He's widely regarded as the best manager currently available on the market, and vacancies always pop up throughout a season, so he may prefer to just wait for the next one to come along.

Nope I wouldn’t.He’s a good manager,but he’s not a Man United manager.My shortlist of candidates-1)Mauricio Pochettino,2)Julian Nagelsmann,3)Brendan Rodgers.
Pochettino would be my 1st choice…The job he did at Tottenham was just absolutely stupendous…
I feel like people will still be picking Poch even if he quit football and took up race car driving for 10 years.

See this is one of the big issues. I don't care what Chelsea have won I wouldn't want my club to be anything like that and I hope we never are. If you want the club to be run like Chelsea why not go and support them?
Just stop it with the romantic crap. No one said they want the club to be run exactly like Chelsea. Chelsea just happens to be the an example on how big clubs are ruthless with their manager turnovers and recruiting while also winning trophies. All big clubs follow the same winning formula. Do you think that “your” club is so special that we should ignore all that? Is it wrong that supporters just want this club to be run exactly like a big club? Because we are dissatisfied with our inept board , so we should go support other clubs? Just stop it.

I make arrogant and douchy posts alright, especially the shorter and more quick-reactionary ones, but I certainly hope I don't give the vibe that I have a problem being challenged or called out for it. I wouldn't want even my most entrenched, contrarian, or argumentative rantings to be understood as anything other than playful, ultimately.

On topic, what triggers me in these discussions is when people liking one candidate (player, manager) entails them badmouthing other candidates. But I guess it's a typical mechanism of arguing.
I agree with your points, also FYI I read most of your posts as sort of wind up but not in a bad way. Like playful way you said.

That would also require our board to actually be interested in Conte. Forgive my lack of faith in our board when it comes to hiring managers. We don’t even have any hints of interest in Conte from the board. And if Spurs throw enough money at Conte, then I’d see no reason why he wouldn’t join them.

Seeing Conte at Spurs while we’re stuck with Ole would be depressing as feck though. Maybe we shouldn’t have thumped them 3-0:(

Hearing Poch is United's desired candidate confused me, I'm surprised he's still right up there in everyone's estimation. Not that he isn't a good manager of course.

Conte is not a Mourinho, Conte only goes where he believes in the project, if he thinks the project isn't capable of winning trophies he will never take the job you don't have to worry.

It's why I'm so into having Conte, the fact that Conte wants the job means he believes that our current team (regardless of incomings) is good enough to compete for major silverware.

It’s evident theyre not desperate for him but even our board can see that Oles future could become untenable, at which point they may have few options. So I doubt they’ll tell him directly not to bother til the Ole situation is settled.

A) What “hints of interest” would you reasonably be expecting from the board? It would be extremely unprofessional and unfair on Solskjaer.

B) Conte already rejected Spurs and I’m sure some more money would make no difference.

And you just pointed out how they’re old and one is leaving in the summer.

As someone said earlier, Rashford/Greenwood/Sancho can work just fine across a front 3.

You act like attrition over the course of a season doesn’t exist. They’ll get games.
It's not the system that suits them long term, we are limiting our attacking talents with this system to benefit Ronaldo mainly as he's always played off a hard working #9, Mason and Sancho should be integral pieces, not back-ups. You also mention attrition yet we only have 4 CB's so we aren't going to get much rotation in the back 3.

Sure they can. Rashford and Greenwood were for long parts of their (short) careers considered strikers. Many people still see Greenwood as one. They aren't natural wide players, Rashford closer to than Greenwood but he's a inside forward. Essentially go back to the days where strike partnerships were commonplace and both would be used pretty exclusively in a front 2, since neither really suit being a lone striker just yet (or ever). In a front 2, can't think of a more perfect set up for them. Rashford and Ronaldo can rotate, Greenwood and Cavani, and then Bruno with Sancho to be the creative option in the front 3. Can switch it between a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-4-3 at will and give the opposition different things to think about, and it relieves those attackers of defensive responsibility they have out wide in a 4231 which they are frankly awful at and a big part of the overriding issue anyway.

Personnel wise, a 343 or 3412 has huge potential for us. We can't fit all our attackers I'm a 4231 anyway, as it's horribly unbalanced, so this is our best chance and actually has a better chance of getting them all in their best positions. From there, it's on Ole to manage it properly. There's no reason why they can't all be rotated effectively. Can even play Pogba in midfield with a better success chance as he has a back 3 behind him, not just 2 CBs. In terms of style of play when using it, there's no reason it has to be defensive or attacking. Up to the coaching for that, but nothing to do with the formation.

Unfortunately I expect Ole will likely overplay Bruno and Ronaldo as usual, but the thing is it doesn't have to be that way. Ole's coaching is relatively negative but again, doesn't have to be that way. Another coach could implement a 3-4-3 perfectly. But if your dream is playing 4 of Bruno, Sancho, Rashford, Ronaldo, Cavani, Greenwood regularly, then IMO its never going to work well enough.
Rashford and Greenwood were strikers at kids level, so was McTominay if i recall correctly and Welbeck was as well, all ended up in different positions when they stepped up to senior football, Rashford and Greenwood have even spoken about enjoying playing wide. The idea they can't track back is crazy, it's another symptom of the lousy coaching, we've seen Marcus track back plenty under the 2 previous managers and if Robben can be taught to track back then I'm sure a 20 year old Greenwood can be.

The system is designed to give us a back 7 as our midfield is poor and the defensive coaching is inept, so we have created a cocoon of protection at the back. We should be building towards having a front 4, not a front 3, given we have so much talent in that area of the pitch, this system isn't a long term solution.

With respect, I am sick to death of hearing what will suit United “long term”. We’ve been grasping in the dark for the “long term” for nearly a decade now and look where it’s got us. If this club keeps searching for the “long term” it’s going to walk itself right into Liverpool’s 30 years in the wilderness.

Damn our board, fans, and anyone else if Conte replaces Nuno at Spurs and we sit with our pants down keeping our nostalgia.

And now watch everyone who didn't want him cry when he's a success at Spurs.

We've now potentially missed out on Pochettinho and Conte to add to the pile of could have beens after Fergie. All for the fraud coaches we have at the club now.

Not understanding all the back 5 complaints tbh. Yes it was a 5-3-2 off the ball, but it was also a 3-4-3 on the ball. Clearly our team is not suited to high press, so a mid or a low block is our best bet.

He's not going to Spurs ffs. What is it with this place and creating scenarios in their own heads and then getting angry about it?

That is like Liverpool fans being concerned that the pummeling they gave us was a bit too much to keep Ole at the wheel. It would be pathetic that a result which was not based on good football but our forwards being clinical led to that outcome.

Conte wouldn't even entertain the idea of going to Spurs whilst the United job is potentially available.

Well I mean there are fans from both sides that think if Klopp has kept his team trying to score that Ole would be gone now.

Granted I don't think our board really cares, we could lose by 7 and I can see Ed telling the Glazers that it's just one touchdown.

Which bit of being ruthless enough to realise its not working, hire a new manager and almost immediately get back into contention is it that you don't like about Chelsea?

Very short term memories forgetting he already rejected them in the summer.

So you pick 2 managers who will never win the PL title who constantly choke in big moments and a manager who's at Bayern and not leaving for years, brilliant.
Mourinho won 3 Premierleague titles, what exactly did he end up achieving at United?Pochettino will win the league within 2 seasons of taking charge of this team…Reaching a CL final with Spurs is a phenomenal achievement….Finishing 4-5 seasons in the top 4 was a brilliant achievement….Finishing a season with Spurs with 86 points was an incredible achievement….Anyone who doubts the quality of Pochettino needs to gets his head checked…

People’s views seemed to be entrenched when it comes to Poch. Expecting Spurs to get any better than 2nd and a champions league final is weird. Especially considering their spending on transfers.

Yeah because he wasn’t driving cars for the last 10 years..,He established himself as a terrific manager….
Not really. He did ok with Southampton, did ok with Spurs until it went completely south in his final season and has now done an average job with PSG in his limited time (losing the title to Lille was bad though). He hasn’t won a trophy in his career yet if I’m not mistaken.

Lets cry about unlikely hypothetical scenarios instead.

Why only Chelsea? Every club is run like that. Managers come and go, they manager for 2-3 years and move on.

So are you happy with how the club is run? If no, which club do you think is best run and the club we should pick best pieces from?
I’d take a Bayern model. Football let, good football, won’t accept low standards.

What do you mean by "like that"?
Chopping and changing managers every five minutes. They have always accepted fairly robotic football, sometimes it’s okay to watch but they don’t mind playing boring football to win.

United always sacked underperforming managers before Fergie.

Granted Chelsea are a different beast, they have sacked managers performing well
