Just don't think our club will agree to the sort of set up Ten Hag would prefer. He is used to Overmars finding hidden gems, their academy producing hidden gems. Players who play a certain way. City players would suit him and he knows the kids coming up would suit him. We sign the players who agents bang their drum the loudest. Yes City sign players but there is a method behind who they sign. They fit with how the manager wants to play. Our team would need another massive overhaul as not sure a lot of our players are willing to invest the energy needed to play how Ten Hag would want.
Well United find gems too, Mejbri/Hansen/Diallo/Fernandez are some gems and in recent years the likes of Rashford/Elanga/Greenwood/Laird/Shoretire have come through the academy. Ole was a bit of a coward in the sense that he didnt dare to give anyone an opportunity and holds to the likes of Lingard, Jones, Mata, Dalot etc who clearly don't have a future here.

On top of that, the United manager is basically the most chequebook manager out there who can go and spray money every transfer period, so there is far less neccessity for that than at Ajax. If he comes, he has Ronaldo, Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, Bruno, Pogba, van de Beek, Varane in his disposal. Hopefully AWB, Shaw, Maguire, DDG could get back to decent form but if not, he would only need a few more pieces. We have lovely talents coming from the academy, it would however be the first time in a long time that our players would receive good detailed coaching with an idea behind it. Some might find that uncomfortable but most would benefit. Lack of quality wouldnt be the problem.

With these managers, the results may stay out for some months but you see their hand in the team very very soon. It isn't like Ole where in his 4th season it is, "Only now have we got a good squad, let's see what he makes of it."

Julien Laurens is milking it. Appearing on talk sport. Does he usually do that? I guess why not milk it. He is the English speaking PSG fan journalist.

Couldn't agree more.

Ten Haag would be a bold/brave option, more risky, requires more to change at the club than just manager position (would work best with VDS and Overmars) and would likely involve lot of change in the play style, players etc.

Poch is safer, more well known, you know what you will get from him. Don't need to change too much around the club.

Guess which option Glazers will pick. Fairly obvious.
When you quoted all of those posts, I thought you were calling out our love-in

ETH and a radical restructure of the backroom would have us best placed to dominate when Pep, Klopp step aside. I do think we will look back at this as a potentially pivotal moment and a huge missed opportunity.

I've made my peace with it being Poch, especially with him being available now. I honestly think that he's looked at the situation, knowing Ten Hag is potentially available at the end of the season and shown his cards.

Seeing Van Der Vart saying there's no way Ten Hag turns us down just yesterday was interesting. Wonder whether that was ETH doing the same. Either way, I think we need to accept what is now looking inevitable.

What is with this club's insistence and always blowing their load so early?

Sign an interim like your statement said you would, bring Ten Hag who is next in the line of progressive coaches. Instead we are looking to sign yet another pragmatic manager in Poch. (even though I'm more of a fan of him than most on here, it seems)

That is just never going to be enough in this league anymore. We need a coach who can improve players and get them playing in a system which will allow us to go head to head with these teams.

I heard that interview on talksport. Is this Julien guy any reliable?
Honestly? Not really i'm afraid. However, there is too much smoke from elsewhere about Pochettino wanting this job from reliable sources in England for there to be nothing in this at all, it's going to happen i feel, whether it's now or in the summer.

Yes for Ajax that is bad.

But it seems that he could do nothing but winning the Champions League for the love for him to be justified, as you clearly don't watch every Ajax game and there are posters here actually that do.
No, I don't watch every Ajax game.

That doesn't mean he is a bad manager, I am drawing my conclusions based on what I have seen, I will change my opinion based on what I see.

I'm sure alex crook knows feck all. He says a lot of stupid things on talksport if I remember correctly.
Isn't that a prerequisite for going on TalkSport?

Our biggest error as a club was to take the changes LvG brought about in terms of changing the footballing profile (we were simply better in possession and in playing through pressure), and then undo it by hiring a manager with an antagonistic philosophy (Mourinho). If we went from LvG to another possession-based progressive coach, then we would be a lot further along in terms of being the right fit for the likes of Ten Hag. We chose LvG to kickstart a new ethos. He started the restructure the youth academy and the scouting to fall in line with this new ethos, of which we benefitted after he was gone, and then we abandoned the ethos entirely for a Mourinho quick-fix.
We're paying for it now.

ha, pretty much.

The level of Talk Sport always gets me. Danny Muprhy yesterday asked why United cant go for Hansi Flick.

It would but Glazers won't tolerate that. The biggest problem with Poch is really how much he's going to compromise with commercial pressures. Which comes down to will he play Ronaldo if he won't press.

No doubt about the missed opportunity. It is what it is.

Didn't know about VdV saying that. That's interesting. Though I find it hard to believe he would leave Ajax in the middle of a good season. Esp if he knows teams like City/Barca/Bayern are all future options anyway.

Knowing The Glazers and Ed, they will not change the structure and institution for ETH.

Therefore, they will go all in for Poch.

ETH is just a dream for fantasy. Let it go.

Some of the posters moaning about Poch and demanding Ten Hag didn't even know who the latter was until a few weeks ago.

God bless the Caf.
Exactly what I was thinking.

I voted for Ten Hag as my first choice too but it's getting a bit out of hand now. He could just as easily be the next AVB as the next Pep. Can't worry too much about it. Klopp was waaaay more proven when we missed out on him, it's not the same situation.

Would be typical of us to get a permanent manager in a few days after announcing we were looking for an interim.

Yes, nice of us to give another club time to regroup whilst we wasted 2 weeks ourselves and shit the bed
Do you propose telling PSG we're taking Poch and goodbye?

You realize they told Real Madrid to eat a bag of dicks to rather keep Mbappe for another season for 200 million euro? They could care less about the 10 mill we want to pay for Poch.

A bad spot? finishing 2nd in the league?

I am not against Ten Hag taking over, the love for him is just a bit over the top. Are you trying to say you watch every Ajax game?
Suddenly everyone have become Ajax experts and have supposedly been watching them the last few years. This place never cease to amaze me.

I bet you 99% of people talking about Ajax and Ten Hag have only watched the last 2 Ajax CL games since his name became really hot on these boards.

While Ten Hag is my favourite coach of the one's being linked, I just don't think this is an environment that is conducive to him being successful. Poch has more experience of things like culture change and working with crap/obstructive boards, two of the major challenges here at United. I think Ten Hag has the highest ceiling for sure but he also carries the most risk. Managing upwards is something he's never had to do before, he might find he just he falls short, which undermines his work on the pitch.

Its not that I do not like anything, in fact I do like the way he plays football.

He gets his team playing really well, good football, beating the press and creating chances.

I am more vary about how he can implement his playing style at United, Ole tried the press with no joy. Yes, Ten Hag is a better coach, he will get it to work but Pep, Klopp, Poch, Hassnhutl who like to play that style struggled in their first year in the PL as the football is different, teams have good coaches.

Honestly delighted if it's Poch. It could all go tits up, but I've been convinced he was the right manager for us for a long time. They screwed up when Ole had one of his 'not real blips' and Poch was available. Hope if he comes he gets same support Solskjaer did for at least the remainder of this and a full season.

What's wrong with pragmatic? It's actually an essential quality for a top coach to have so I'm a little confused as to your context.

I agree with your point, but I don't think the solution to that is to once again hire a manager cut from a similar cloth as the managers we have previously hired, who have failed. The solution should be to give Ten Hag the time he needs to modernise the club. I just don't think signing another pragmatic manager (even though Poch's is more modern with his pressing style), is the correct choice. I'd love to be proven wrong, but it all just seems like in two or so years, everyone will eventually be back here, slowly realising we once again were not able to compete due to our outdated approach and structure.

Changing the structure to suit Ten Hag is obviously the sensible option, but we're never gonna do that are we? WIth our board I think Poch is the best option, honestly.

No, I'm talking about the posts you're replying to. Same people that are adamant and convinced Ten Hag is levels above Poch despite most likely not having watched much of his Ajax team beside their last 2 CL games against Dortmund when his name became hot topic on the Caf.
