Lingard pulled wide then half heartedly tried to offer Fred a run, instead of darting he just jogged. That probably made Fred’s mind up to go for it himself and we know he barely has any end product. It was a collective feck up.
Negative, the worst possible decision was reached, it’s indefensible
But it’s ok because he runs around a lot

Maybe one of three of our squad who could make the City squad.

The idea that we bring in someone to play behind Fred and play him more advanced is very scary. You kind of saw a glimpse of that today as you saw how abysmal and rabbit in the head lights he got whenever he got the ball in the final third.

People will obviously (rightly so) bollock him for that chip but otherwise he was grand. Rangnick's gonna love him.
This - our best midfielder today and last game, and his intercepts, tackling and even passing (Sancho could've scored earlier if he hadn't miscontrolled that pass from Fred) was good today. The chip was Rooney levels poor though - he needs finishing coaching.

Elite player with a proper system in place, which will be happening starting tomorrow.

Fred put in a very solid shift today. Not perfect as he had it on a plate in the final third but his performance overall was borderline outstanding. Easily the true MOTM.

Out of all our midfielders, it's Fred who I think will improve with a better manager and better coaching, potentially becoming a very important player for us long term. The rest of our midfielders will be binned off at the earliest opportunity.

He has no clue what to do in attack. It was hilarious when he found himself a gift, looked around then just gave it back to Mendy.

I’ve been calling him our best midfielder for a long time now. For me he’s the first name on the team sheet and a lot of the criticism he gets I think is way ott.

All over this, what the actual feck, sums him up all over
Great he wins the ball and then immediately makes one of the most stupid decisions of the season
You want to add this on a list with Maguire tackling a man on a yellow as the last man and getting sent off, Bruno skying a ball that leads to a goal (or making a cross field pas sin our own defensive third today), Pogba two-footing a player vs Liverpool, Shaw and AwB leaving attackers free at back posts in several games? Worst decision you say? I've seen Giggs miss an open goal. That is far from the worst decision - what it was, is a piss poor attempt but it was still an attempt to score (one of 3 we had) and didn't lead to us losing or conceding. People need to get a grip.

Thought he was very good today.

I actually think he's going to do well under Rangnick as well.

A picture has been painted that he is an utterly useless footballer which, as is nearly always the case when people go to extremes, completely inaccurate.

Fred wanted to channel his inner Ronaldo with that shot after watching him vs Villarreal.

Very good again. MoTM. This is his position. His decision making should have been better on that good chance he had, but that doesn't take away from a very good performance. He also played a fantastic ball over the top to Sancho. Sancho's touch was too heavy and ruined the chance. Fred will hopefully play like this more often under Rangnick.

I knew people would get on his back for that chip. Ronaldo the other day absolutely fecked up 4 very good chances and all attackers do every game. The gap for a pass to both players was closed down very quickly so he went for it himself which was a good decision in a split second but ultimately failed to pull it off, which happens. His interceptions again created the best chances for our team in the game, including great skill and play for the Sancho chance in the first half. I bet Sancho himself need to visit a finishing coach for that one.

Otherwise easily our best player on the pitch, only sums up the british media bias when Carragher gave the MOTM to Scott fecking Mctominay, the poorest player in the first half on the pitch and albeit slightly better in the second, must have been his try-hard face and his constant fauling everyone around and giving freekicks for fun which got him the award. Probably Carragher have seen himself there. But Fred will always be an unsung hero.

He will have zero problems to play progressive football under the next manager, because he simply already plays like that.

Sums up this thread and quality of posts like you when you single out one of many situations in the game which happen to the best attackers of the game instead of praising our best performer today. You probably didn't see the first half who created the best chance of the game in the first half for Sancho. clueless Fred can't attack..

Was our best outfield player today by far. He has his faults, but currently is one of the more important members of this squad.

Well said, lots of hyperbole regarding Fred, Fred will be a good player under our next manager.

I have a feeling that if he played for Liverpool he’d be outstanding and we’d hate the fecker every time we played them

Giggs missing an open goal was not a decision, very poor example
His decision to attempt the chip was very poor and yes I put it up there with what you mentioned
Anyone thinking we are going anywhere with our midfield options needs to get a grip

This guy is going to be beastly under Rangnick. Already has the engine. Just needs a proper driver. Ole just passed his learners and was drunk behind the wheel.

A lot of people have an agenda against Fred, it's a bit weird tbh. Always mention one mistake but not all the good stuff he does in the match, he gave away the ball a couple of times but nobody mentions all the times he wins it back. Flops chipping the keeper but plays a peach of a ball to give Sancho a chance he really should have done better with.

He was great today. Won’t even blame him for that chance he missed. As a team we should be creating enough chances to the point his chance shouldn’t even matter.

Fred’s passing is bizarre. It’s perfectly fine one game and horrendously shit the next. Rarely does passing ability fluctuate so much
It’s the standard of opposition
To his credit he brings high energy and I’d agree has to start ahead of the other options
But that’s mostly because our other options are poor, he’s just not good enough to play in a serious side
He’s a poor mans Park and he wasn’t a starter, he was a valuable squad man

His passing was fine today.

The lofted through ball that Sancho couldn’t quite trap on his chest was the best pass by a player in red today (and one of the best passes of the game)

Truth is any player next to McTominay look bad except in that once a while top class display, Put Fred next to a top class DM, you can see the best out of him

His bad luck an aged Matic and McTominay were his CM partners for last 3 years

Fred first name in the team sheet? Would get into city's squad? Some of you need to give your head a wobble.

Gotten so used to mediocrity that simply running around and giving players problems is enough for you in a midfielder.

He's a worse version of Jordan feckin Henderson.

A good player to have in your squad, and can do certain jobs in certain games (similar to park), but we're never winning anything with Fred being an automatic starter. It's glaringly obvious he's a level below what's required to be a starting mid in a side with trophy winning aspirations. That "chip" was criminal.

I think Ole's mantra of be free, believe in yourself attitude still in his veins yesterday.

Rangnick will fix that.

Oh the abuse Fred has gotten during Ole reign. I never understood it and always defended him. Never ever deserved that level of abuse...seriously. Fans target individual players when the system they're thrust in can make them struggle if not suited to their strengths but I always said it...eventually we need an upgrade but always one of our most important players in big games.
