Wan Bissaka injured by our death trap pitch side set up

Just read Wan Bissaka had to be stretchered off after colliding with the advertisement boards at the end of the game.

I've been saying for a long long time that that massive drop off at the side of the pitch at Old Trafford is an accident waiting to happen, I'm surprised there aren't alot more serious injuries due to it.
When a player is running at full speed to keep the ball in (as AWB was last night) there's just not enough space to stop yourself before you come to that massive dip which I think (I maybe wrong) then features concrete, bricks and advertising boards.
As I said, it's a really dangerous layout that needs sorted asap.

I always worry about them slipping on the brick work when trying to collect the ball.

Who thought putting a brick border around a football pitch was a good idea.

I don't understand why they're designed that way. I've been wondering this for years now.

Exactly, surely it cannot be that difficult to design it in a way that has a gradually declining slope/grass bank rather than a sudden, massive drop.

I’m another one who’s also wondered about that brick edging, for years.
How have the football authorities not raised it as a safety issue, long before now?
It looks lethal and it’s a wonder that no serious injury has occurred so far.

I think it was to do with the drainage system we needed to install after replacing the old grass pitch. The pitch had to be raised to accommodate it for some reason.

I think it was caused by the rain and his momentum more than anything. Slope or not he was still going to collide pretty hard into it.

Should just replace the bricks with something safer and perhaps something in front of the advertising boards behind the goals to break the impact.

It’s well dodgy tbf.

What I’ve noticed as well is that players won’t fully commit (a bit like AWB did last night in fairness) because they are scared of absolutely clattering into the advertising boards. They have to slow down before hitting the byline to allow for it, could lose out on a few last ditch assists this way… clutching i know…

If we managed to raise the level of the pitch to accommodate the drainage system why can't we raise the level of the surround?

You’d have thought by now they could dig down and keep the pitch level with the sides.

I presume there’s a reason why it’s raised though, perhaps the water table or the soil mean we can’t?

Seeing as no other stadium seems to have it, surely it must be easy to not have it? It's been an accident waiting to happen from the day it was put in, whenever that was.

That sharp slope always worries me, especially with advertising boards nearby and such. It’s an accident waiting to happen.

Why are we the only club that has this? Surely that means that it doesn’t actually need to be like this?

An accident waiting to happen that has happened once!!! I’m pretty sure that the system has been in place for well over a decade

People crying over this need to find something else in life to worry about.

I’d be more concerned about themgetting too close to an actual person than clattering in to some advertising boards or a brick.

It's happened way more than once or twice - off the top of my head I remember Shaw, Di Maria (lol), Rashford, Pogba, McTominay in recent years take hard hits into the barrier or floor after chasing a ball towards the corner flag.

The flip side is I did enjoy the snake getting boshed into pit last season. I think it’s because of drainage needs but seems a bit of a death trap.

Apart from the fact that no-one wants to see anyone getting injured in any way, these players are our expensive assets and the club needs to protect them.

I think they were installed pre Young putting Di Maria into the stands when he made a welcome return back to OT as opposition. Should have installed spikes as well.

And unsurprisingly, they all survived with minimal problems.

‘The club need to protect them’. Funny!

The club literally run these ‘assets’ in to the ground and bleed them for everything they can.

I don't remember it being a major issue. If AWB is injured because of it then it's unfortunate but no need to carry on like it's this giant deathtrap. A bit exaggerated I think. Statistically it is clearly not as troublesome as it looks.

You see it in cricket all the time, fielders flying over advertising. It's part of the commercial aspect of the game, advertisers want to be positioned close to the pitch and these are part of our revenue stream that allow colossal wages to be paid. I think it's a case of get on with it.

Why didn't they dig deeper, did they hit bedrock?

I bet it's just another penny pinching exercise. Why dig around when you can just plop it over the old one and call it a day. Plus we have a nice moat now.

But remember when Di Maria took a fall down the side? The death trap giveth and the death trap taketh away.

No idea, probably couldn't be arsed or too greedy as you say.

Beggars belief, especially with safety solutions known today.

They should flood it and add alligators and moat bridge.
Excellent suggestion although it would be exorbitant as we’d need to truck in so much water because it’s just vaporize upon contact with the lava and the steam from filling the moat while the lava is there would obstruct the view and we’d then have to find a solution for that.

Perhaps selling the cooked alligator at matches.

I think the lava does fit more with the Devils theme. Also it’d take years for all parties involved to agree on the placement of the bridge.

I think I can remember either Rafael or Fabio having the same accident as Aaron?

I always thought the massive slope was to try and improve the view from the first couple of rows?

It does seem crazy that it's brick though. Surely it could be something much softer? Especially wearing with players wearing studs, it's a accident waiting to happen.

They were like that in 2003 when I went to my first match and was sat at pitch level so I bet it’s at least a mid-90’s job
