The elevation of the pitch and its surroundings is a disaster waiting to happen.

I also wonder why we have they have put the wheelchair section behind the goal and below the away fans. I’ve noticed that they have put up nets behind goal but I still find it weird.

Think I read that a child who was sitting in the section got hit by something by Arsenal(I think it was) fans above and had to be taken to the hospital.

One player out of the hundreds that play there every year injured and it's an issue?

For me, it's more of an issue for corners than lads falling over.

I think it was to do with the drainage system we needed to install after replacing the old grass pitch. The pitch had to be raised to accommodate it for some reason.
Even so, you could simply cover the drop, out to a safe distance.

They should replace the brick work with some kind of bouncy rubber so that the players bounce back into the field of play

They cant even take a corner properly with a decent run up as the slope is in the way.

You really see where the 'health and safety legislation is written in blood' term comes from. Not every measure needs to be backed up by clear statistical evidence. It's a hazard that should be piss easy for a billion dollar club to sort out and should be one of many proactive moves that the club seems to disregard.

It's been like that for decades though and they have replaced the pitch a million times since, so could have re-designed but never have.

Yeah it's an issue. Surprised the players haven't kicked off about it. Even if it doesn't happen often it seems ridiculous to risk any injury on multi-million pound players, and it's our that will be at risk the most.

They have metal fencing on the dug out side as well  one day somebody is going to go flying off and smack their heads on it.

With all the health and safety regulations these days it's quite amazing they've not been forced to change it up.

It's been like that for long. No serious injuries have occurred so far.

Yeah those are not good reasons to do nothing. So a player has to get seriously injured THEN we decide safety is important.

Came in handy when Young pushed Di Maria down the dip and into the fencing though.

Yeah I hate health & safety nonsense nowadays but I often wonder how it hasn't been looked at.

That slope is deadly. Never noticed it till I went to OT myself. Even when you see the corner kicks, you can only move back so much and then have to run up the slope to kick the ball.

Pretty sure player in Croatia died from a head colission with similar wall behind the goal, which was a decent looking stadium.

United for a big club are sometimes ran so shoddily. Been complaining at the slope on the pitch for years. Imagine one of our 100m players ever gets a serious injury from this costing us a cl knockout game.

It was called the swamp because water used to lie on the pitch and when it rained it turned into a quagmire. Relaying the pitch with a nylon/grass hybrid stopped the pitch cutting up and having the chamfer on the edge of the pitch helps rain and water drain off it. Its the trade off for the billiard table pitch we have now.

yeah, not sure i agree with the “nothing serious has happened yet, so it must be fine” approach. pop music tried that approach and they were sorry when westlife emerged.

The problem seems to be the materials used for the advertising board and the bottom of the edge. You could probably find better materials which cause less harm on impacts, without having to redesign the underside of the pitch itself.

Just watching the United vs. Milan game when Ronaldo and a Milan player slid down the side of the pitch and crashed into the electronic hordings causing injury.

I've always had a feeling that one day the raised pitch with it's angled slope down is going to cause a player serious injuries some day.

Anybody know why it's raised and not level with the ground?

Isn't it to fit the pipework for the pitch heating? I vaguely remember seeing lots of piping when I did the tour many years ago. Doesn't mean they couldn't put something softer over the brick work though you'd think. Even just that rubbery tarmac stuff would be an improvement.

It’s been like this for far too long and it’s probably impossible to fix it.

Knock OT down and build a new stadium from scratch on the same land, just like Spurs did.

Yeah lest just knock down our iconic stadium just to fix the pitch being slightly raised

The bottom row seats are pretty much at an eye line with the pitch floor. So to fit the seats in, ad boards and space for stewards it has to be dropped. Only other way would be to somehow lower the pitch

Leading and lagging indicators.

You can really tell which posters in this thread have never left the comfort of an office.

In practically all well run industries you should put in measures to reduce the risk of hazards, especially if multiple people have already been injured. I'm not trying to overinflate it, but if someone in my industry gets a (Lost Time) Injury from a previously known hazard and it's not been rectified I'd get a right dressing down from the HSE - even if it's as simple as guard railing or safe walkways.

Lots of pitches are like this and it’s been like this for over 20 years as far as I can recall. The number of injuries arisen from it are few and far between in the grand scheme of things.

I wonder if they could raise the surrounding area to the same level as the pitch?

Would mean losing the first few rows of seats though.

No ones died. What's the problem? seems to be the attitude of a fair few in here alright.

Need to get a rubber ground cover and soft and squishy advertising boards.

We should put Jones behind the corner flags to catch players, or something like that.

We need to use it to our advantage. I'd raise it up even more, make the fall more steep.

Leave very little room around the white lines for players trying to run up for corners and long throws.

They could easily line it with some type of protection and still be able to manage drainage.
