I’d let him and Martial leave in January. Love Cavani but he’s only here for 6 more months at most and he’s been injured all season. We’d be better off saving the 6-7m left on his salary and reinvesting it in the squad. Someone like Adeyemi would be a worthwhile investment IMO.

We have Elanga, Amad and Greenwood all chomping at the bit for minutes, and all fit the profile of a Rangnick type player. All with massive potential.

Same goes for Pogba. Sell in January if possible 10-20m would be great and go for a system player that fits the way Rangnick wants to play. We don’t need another flash bastard who has zero work rate. Haidaira seems to be one we have an eye on. Or save the money for a big De Jong or Bellingham bid in the summer.
Problem with that is covid isnt going anywhere, players having to sit out because of positive tests. Selling Martial, Cavani, Pogba (and Henderson, Lingard?) all in January reduces bodies in the squad and depth is likely to be important for the rest of the season.

Spending your twilight years at Manchester United then Barcelona is a pretty nice way to end your career.

I don't think barca want to pay any transfer fee but we should ask some small fee if they finish in top 4 or wins europa league.

We are praying absolute shit ton of money and he is never fit. Like him a lot as a player but he never plays. Let him go ahead use the money for something else.

I hope he stays until end of the season. Ronaldo and Cavani could be great partnership in CL and gives us better chance to win CL. Cavani is ideal for Rangnick pressing.

Yeah madness to just let him go, we have lots to play for and he’s not only a top player but as you pointed out he seems perfect for the new manager.

He's on 250k a week and played one game so far hasn't he?

I don't see how we can keep him if he wants to leave with awful value for money like that.

Yeah he's going to leave United by terminating his contract to join Barca who can barely afford to pay him and have just lost CL football..

Utter nonsense
They did sign Dani Alves. It's impossible Xavi is trying to assemble a world XI from the time he left Barca.

Well I mean, I love him but if he'd prefer to not play for Barcelona than not play for us, what can you do?

We are not paying his wages in the next 3-4 years though. I would rather still spend that 4m-6m to keep him to end of the season. He has better chance to play more games now that we use two strikers formation.

No way should we let him go until the end of the season, keep him fit for champions league, him and Ronaldo can be lethal.

We’re going to have a TONNE of games to get through in double quick time, he’s perfect for rotation and is currently an upgrade on Rashford, not to mention Martial could be leaving.

His quality could be the difference in the top four and perhaps winning a cup.

Even if we didn't sign Ronaldo, how many more games would Cavani have played? Although we didn't realise it at the time, buying a striker has turned out to be absolutely necessary
Yeah between injury and his prioritising of international games, we were right to get a replacement. Though a DM was way more of a priority and still is.

He wants to go though it seems. Just keep him against his wishes? Why have our fan base learned nothing over last 8 years.

If he wants to go then he should be sold. That goes for everyone in the team too.

Things aren't simple tbh. Clubs have to look out for their interests too. Decisions cannot be made based only on players wishes

We gain absolutely nothing by letting Cavani go. The big wages argument is bullocks given a player of his quality goes for 50+ million minimum.

I’d let him and Martial leave in January. Love Cavani but he’s only here for 6 more months at most and he’s been injured all season. We’d be better off saving the 6-7m left on his salary and reinvesting it in the squad. Someone like Adeyemi would be a worthwhile investment IMO.

Since we're playing a 2 striker system under RR we can't afford to let Cavani go.
I'd rather let Martial leave for a good sum, who is just as injury prone as Cavani but does feck all whenever fit.

Cavani's a pro, he's not going to sulk and he'll play whenever fit anyway. We can't replace a CF of Cavani's quality in January.

Amad's likely to go out on loan and isn't a striker just because he played 45min as a false 9 once,, but regardless, if we agree he's super talented, it's better he plays twice a week rather than 4 times in one season.

Loved him for his time here but can’t blame him for wanting to leave given we begged him to stay and then signed Ronaldo.
Silly. He worked his way back into the team when OGS played him and Ronnie up top together.

It’s not about learning anything. The player is contracted to United, he’s here to do a job and is needed by nature of the fact we can’t replace the cnut with anyone of a decent level in Jan.

He wants to go? Fine… in the summer, not before

Tv3 reported he is off to Barcelona for a year and half contract. Feels bad about it, I feel we want see him enough here before he leaves plus he may very well fit Ralf pressing system though.

Would prefer to keep him till the summer. He will be more useful for us than Martial.

Since he’s been here he’s spent half his time injured, or going home and with constant rumours that he wants to leave at the next transfer window. He’s been linked with more moves away than Pogba. He’s been good, he just isn’t worth worrying too much about at this stage.

Needs to show he can play more than 1 game in 8 first.

However, it'd be an odd time to want to move now, as we play 2 up front, meaning he has a decent chance of getting in.
Especially being a presser extraordinaire.

I see no benefit ib us helping out Barca with this.
  • We are playing 2 up top, in a pressing system
  • Rashford is in terrible form
  • Greenwood is still very young and raw
  • We have a congested fixtures schedule ahead
  • Cavani offers qualities our other forwards do not
He can leave in the summer when his contract expires but in my opinion it would be a huge mistake to let him go in January when we are competing on 3 fronts and he still has a lot to offer - if fit he’s the perfect striker for our champions league campaign, he should not be allowed to go.

He clearly doesn't really want to be here, that is the most important thing. Like Ralf said about Pogba he shouldn't have to convince players to want to play for United. Bit of a dilemma though if Martial is leaving in January too.

Going by this season he won't be missed. Shame about his injuries.

If he's not carrying an injury that means this season is a total write off, in which case Barca wouldn't go after him anyway, there is no reason to sell him. He suits Rangnick's style of play perfectly. He's of enormous value from the bench or as a starter. The only question is the current injury he's carrying.

Likewise, but the question is, how many want to be at United for the right reasons?
Until we win titles and trophies again the money is the attraction for the Cavani's of the world here. He will probably play for a pittance for Barca. Southern European and South American players think Madrid/Barca are the ultimate destination.

Whether it’s cooled or he’s already agreed terms with Barca, he has to stay until the end of the season. We need a backup to Ronaldo, or even someone to play with him.

I wouldn't mind if Cavani leave. He has the right characteristics and attitude to succeed here but he's too injury prone. A player like that should also have the opportunity to end his career with Barcelona on his CV if he wants to. We've got enough forwards in Ronaldo, Rashy and Greenwood.

He's a good player, our best forward after Ronaldo, so I'd rather keep him. Terrible injury record though, so am OK if he ends up going.
