Can we just let him go for the 5M loan fee or whatever? Do we really need to play hardball over 5M vs 10M? He's not getting games here anyway and he's free to leave in 4 months. He won't agree to a transfer because he loses his signing bonus that way.

Why not just take the 5M and get rid of his wage for the next few months?

Can someone explain to me why we’re holding out for a better loan fee for Lingard who’s available on a free in a few months but didn’t bother with loan fees for martial or probably donny? Seems a bit weird to me. But maybe there a logic. I assume we’re just playing a game with Newcastle cause we know they have the money and figure they’ll cave.

YIp. It's amazing how with the form of some of our players we'v still managed to have players that barely play. Game after game of people underperforming and yet players who we'e seen play at a really high level can't get a kick out. It's farcical.

What a waste. Should have sold him off the back of the west ham season and got a decent 20mil or more. Another case of keeping a player too long

Someone claim some club is offering 5-10m loan fee, I say keep dreaming. 2-3m at most. Then his wage may be 2.5m, making it 5m "return".

Are we going to loan him to Spurs, West Ham, Everton, or Arsenal? Answer is clearly no, not for 5m. If Newcastle or a foreign club comes in with a decent offer, and if Lingard willing to go, remember that Lingard can refuse to go, then yes we can consider whatever on the table, otherwise no. It was the same argument on Henderson last Jan. (to Everton)

This is gonna be like that time we paid more for Fellaini than his buyout clause, right? Let Lingard go on a free months after West Ham tried to buy him for what would probably have been something like £20m. This club is run by absolute imbeciles.

That is exactly what I meant. I'm guessing that's why the player doesn't want a loan move because its too big a gamble.
He won't get many games here thus when he's free, less suitors and might result lower wage. If he goes on loan and did like West Ham loan, he'd gather a lot more interests and thus potentially bigger wage. Some clubs also put more weight on players attitude when looking for player.

Martial and VDB (if he goes) will return to United at the end of their loan periods and can be sold or retained. Lingard would leave on a free after his loan ends so the loan fee is effectively a transfer fee.

How so? He played under LVG, Jose, and Ole. His form dropped off massively and then Bruno came in. No idea whether there was/is an offer to extend his contract and he felt it wasn't good enough or he just wants to play.
VDB is an odd one. No idea what the issue is there but it's migrated to another manager so he must not be doing something they want.

So sell him if he's so bad. There were offers. The club turned it down, not rejected by the player as many will want to believe.

Ole messed this one up didn't he. Obviously Jesse has expressed his wish to Ole to let him stay so he can get higher wage in the summer as a free agent and he agreed. No way to run a club as this cost us 25m quid at a minimum.

Lingard, Pogba, Shaw, Matic, Martial , Jones, Mata should all have been sold 3 yrs ago and the funds re-invested in promising younger players...now we'll lose 4-5 of them for nothing...financial and sporting wise as well.

Yup we’re run by absolute clowns. And now we’re quibbling over a couple million when we ourselves shit ourselves in the foot by not getting a transfer for him when we had the chance. If he stays he costs us more money while sitting on the bench. Rather he went and cleared the decks for a new mid or at worst one of our youth prospects who will show more fight and is more likely to listen to Rangnick.

Didn't we accept an offer in the summer and he refused to go or something? Maybe i'm not remembering it correctly. If we couldn't sell him when his stock was higher than it had ever been we are never going to.

Agreed. Bizarre that people expect players to act against their own interests.
yet we expect the club to act against its own interests in terms of injured players (ex Jones), players who are finished (ex Mata) and players who constantly do not deliver. Its also time we put this United DNA myth to bed as well. Loyalty and professionalism has nothing to do with nationality or location.

It's not just that, but it's so disproportionate as well. People show no respect or loyalty to the players, it's the club over everything. And of course when the club shows no loyalty to players that's fine as well. They then expect sacrificial loyalty from players in return, it's insanity.

Actually United's problem is the polar opposite to that. For years we have let sentimentalism take over our better judgement by keeping players past their best, by keeping injury prone players, by promoted ex players in high positions despite having zero experience in the job and by giving second, third and fourth chances to players who simply can't perform on a consistent basis. Lingard himself benefited from that. He should have been shown the door the moment he started humping pillows and putting his brand ahead of anything. We bought into his sob story and we sent him on loan instead. Now we're reaping the benefits for that.

United should expect a certain standard across the board. Anyone going lower to that standard should be kicked out. This is a top club with a great history and a huge legacy. We're neither a school for third rated players/coaches/managers nor a hospital.

They have legal contracts so not sure how United is acting against their own interests. If they renewed these contacts or extended them it wasn't to be nice even if you (or whoever) now thinks it was a mistake.

The story I heard in the summer was Moyes spoke directly to Ole to ask for Jesse but Ole made it clear Jesse was part of his plans and not for sale. On the back of this and reassurances from Ole of playing time Jesse then decided to stay, which is understandable as he is Utd through and through.
I’m not so keen personally to apportion blame, but I think anybody would struggle to point at Lingard in this scenario.

We've got a squad of overpaid. lazy and overrated players most of whom are nowhere near to top club level. If United is guilty of anything its about not being ruthless enough.

Absolutely this.

I can understand why some players are quite angry they aren’t being played. Utd have just extended them to keep them as assets to sell or show value on our books. Even though the players have no right to be here, they are human and can see why they would be disappointed.

Lingard I think is a bit different though, he had so many opportunities and didn’t take them. He should know it hasn’t worked out here and just leave. I feel as though he wants to take advantage of that sentiment and poor decisions you mentioned. I reckon he would love to get an extension here even if he doesn’t ever get to play. Strikes me as someone happy with the easy life and money, especially since he hired Raiola.

That's normal tactics if you are trying to sell the player at a decent price. You are never going to say, ''yeah, Jesse isn't part of our plans and we really want to sell him.''
Look at the big picture and not just some throwaway line.

These players had been benefiting greatly of our incompetence and sentimentalism. There's no way that Lingard would have been a United player on such ridiculous salary if we were managed correctly.

Sometimes it is how it looks. Ole said publically he wants to keep Lingard, he told Moyes that. Moyes took that it that way. Lingard did stay.

For whatever reason Ole suddenly wanted a bloated squad. Which he got.

Why are people acting shocked all of a sudden? This guy has demonstrated many times that it's all about himself and his stupid brands, acting the big bollocks when he has been stealing a living out of this amateurly run club.

The way I look at it is we know we are going to lose Lingard on a free in the summer.

Based on that, we are essentially looking for a loan fee for the remaining part of his contract which will act as a form of transfer fee (with his wages also being covered by the other club).

The reason we are not insisting on a loan fee for the likes of Martial and VdB may be due to the fact they still have a few years on their contract.

I don't see what hes done wrong. Should have just sold him last summer if we didnt want to use him.
People are getting tired of the leaks and certain players doing everything within their power to make everything about them when United are trying to win games and turn things around.

This

Keeping them too long without using them till their value is zero or you have to pay to get rid of them

Typical United

Agreed, Posters on here keep telling me we are building a structure, putting good people in place etc. But we still see utterly inept in foootball decisions, Allowing Lingard to run out his contract is pathetic. It also sends a message to the divided and toxic dressing room that its fine to take their grossly inflated salaries, dick about on social media, rarely kick a ball and its all fine. Still a joke of a club.
