You remember the headlines.

It seems from the comments in various threads that many here would be happy to see a large scale clear out.

Now, let's have a little competition.

How many first team squad members will leave, that is be sold, or leave on a free over the summer ? I fear that we are going to be disappointed.

I am going for 5.

Let's make this better:- name the players.

Mata, Matic, Grant, Van d Beek, Williams.

I think Matic stays, Ronaldo stays to as no one can pay his wages, I’d imagine the ones above are almost certain

Mata, Henderson, Jones, Tuanzebe, Pererira, Martial, Williams, Donny, Cavani, Pogba, Lingard.

11. Madness but there you go. That’s how much of a mess we’ve made of things behind the scenes. A reset is needed (yet again) 4 starting quality players to come in and 2 borderline first team youth punts. Do that and our wage bill will come down and we will have a better team.

I'd like to see three quarters dispersed with, but given how things have been I suspect: Henderson, Mata, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Pogba, Lingard, Cavani, Pereira. With all the others given yet another season to prove themselves and we'll continue seeing dressing room leaks once a new manager has failed to get a tune out of the toxic bunch.

I predict the following to leave:
  • Grant - out of contract, released
  • Tuanzebe - ambition to play first team football
  • Williams - currently on loan, sold to Norwich possibly
  • Lingard - out of contract, sold
  • Martial - sold
  • Cavani - out of contract, released
6 in total, the rest will either be deemed too valuable to let go, or kept for unspecified reasons.

Pogba, Cavani and Henderson are definitely leaving. VDB and Martial most probably unless we couldn't find sellers. Ronaldo will be out if we end in EL next season.

Tuanzebe
Couple more no doubt.

VDB may stay if Ten Hag comes in

Surprised that so many see Ronaldo leaving. The sums of money are so great, and the amount of clubs he’d entertain joining are so few that I just can’t believe it would happen.

I think part of it is that it just seems unfathomable that he won't be playing Champions League football. You are of course right though and it's hardly as if his performances to date will be attracting Europe's elite. Not sure how it ends, truth be told. Sporting? MLS?

Definites (6):

Pogba
Cavani
Lingard
Mata
Pereira
Grant

We'll try but struggle because of their wages (3 from these 11):

Ronaldo
Henderson
Matic
Van de Beek
Martial
Jones
Bailly
Tuanzebe
Telles
Dalot
AWB

I'd gladly see all 17 above go. We'd barely notice they've gone.

You do realise about 5 are out of contract?

Mata, Matic, Lingaard, Pogba, Cavani

Personally I'd also sell

Henderson, Martial, Bailly and Rashford

That's be most of the Ego's, Bad attitudes, Lazys and bad eggs removed

Promote Diallo, Garner, Laird, Hannibel and Shoretire

And sign a good defensive mid, a striker and a centre back who have the correct attitude and mentality, preferably leadership quality's, then build from there.

Grant, Henderson, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Williams, Jones, Pogba, VDB (maybe ETH would change this), Lingard, Pereira, Mata, Chong, Martial, Cavani, Greenwood (if he counts)

So between 13-15 out. Probably a new backup gk (probably Sam Johnstone), a cb, a dm, st in for the summer. If our squad fails as it inevitably will I think we'll go for a rw in Jan.

Squad would look like this:

De Gea
Heaton
Johnstone

Varane
Maguire
Lindelof
New CB
Dalot
AWB
Laird
Shaw
Telles
Fernandez

Matic
New DM
Garner
McTominay
Fred
Hannibal
Fernandes

Sancho
Rashford
Elanga
Diallo
Pellistri
Garnacho

Ronaldo
New Striker
McNeil

Cavani, Pogba, Lingard, Jones, Matic and Mata are out of contract and will either not sign or not be offered a new deal.

Henderson and Tuanzebe will probably go looking for first team football.

I think we're stuck with Martial

My honest opinion these players will leave
Henderson- No chance in hell he stays another season to be 2nd fiddle. Newcastle will come back for him and they have the money to get him
Bailly- Almost joined AC Milan in January and IMO he'll get his move this summer due to playing time demands
Axel- One year left on his deal with no place in the team and can't see us extending
Jones- Free loan/transfer to a foreign club like Bordeaux who almost got him 2 months ago
Williams- No place in the team and young enough to attract decent offers
Matic- Garner coming back from loan will prompt us to let him go so that he gets his chances
Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Cavani- Out of contract and won't extend
Would like us to sell one of Ronaldo or Martial(wouldn't rule it out)but I think we'll struggle due to their wages.

I'm hoping, Jones, Mata, Matic, AWB, DVB, Lingard, Cavani, and Ronaldo, all go, but it'll probably just be 3-4 from the list.

I don't think Ronaldo is leaving because I don't think any other big club would pay money for him. Unless he wants to go somewhere like the US or Saudi Arabia but I doubt he would. He'll leave at the end of his contract in 2023 imo.

Not a chance in hell Ronaldo is staying to play in the europa league. Probably has something in his contract that gets him the feck out of there if that happens.
