Thought he was better than Pogba today, which must be a first!

Was excellent, barely gave the ball away and worked hard, which he needed as he played alone in the midfield.

What a game from Fred! Not sure how he can be so erratic on some days.
Two things -
1) Playing with an actual DM and not having to cover for both Mctominay and Pogba/Bruno

2) Getting a week's rest. He's our most played midfielder and his game involves a lot of running, it noticeably shows when he has to play weekend - midweek - weekend with no rest. I think people forget that fatigue is real when you play 90 minutes of intense football.

I mean there's a reason why he starts for the number 1 ranked international team in the world, his ability has never been in question for me.

When he’s having a good game, he’s really good. When not at his best, he gets lots of stick from fans. He is a decent player, i can not see him as a long term starter in a united team that hopes to compete for titles; however, he is a good player to have - good squad player that is. Played really well today. His pass for the first goal reminded me he is Brazilian
Always see some fake compliments over here in a "good but never long term option". While he's our by far best and most consistent midfielder in the last 5 years. Easily outpeformed Schweinsteigger, Schneiderlin, Matic, McTominay, Herrera probably too.. yet he's not good enough.

He's more seen forward contributing to attack now for those too slow to understand the game and appreciate him but even before in his deeper role, he showed how absolutely crucial he's for our defensive game which was often nonexistent whenever he wasn't playing. Obviously people who seen footy only from the tv or playstation overlook his defensive work, covering tackling, forcing errors and one touch passing in high pace with decent vision which all gives other players the freedom to attack and create

There's a real struggle to give him credit in his more timid games and never allow him to make a mistake for some reason. But today he was just ridiculous and that's something considering he played in that midfield pretty much alone again, with grandpa Matic and linguid Pogba giving the ball away with their every second touch not being able to close down spaces quickly enough when we couldn't get near the ball.

So yeah he's definitely in a title winning team but the standard around him obviously need to get better. Not just the statistics show that we are much better team when he plays.

When he has proper players around him, he performs very well. When he plays with McT, he is the one who needs to be main playmaker which he is not.

I love these type of hardworking and composed performances. If he was about three inches taller so his little legs could get those balls/tackles he juuust misses, he could be world class.
On days like this he's world class easily. He often matches or outperforms best DMs in the best leagues with his tackles/clearances/blocks so I am not sure about this argument.

Because he's small and works extremely hard he's got great balance and dynamism crucial to get into those good positions without the need of long legs, because of that he's mostly a clean tackler. Look at Pogba and McTominay, how does that affect their defensive contribution positively? once in a while they can reach to a different ball/tackle, but their timing and dynamism is night and day with Fred who's just moping around much faster and more intelligently.

Thought it was poor choice of words from Fred to say that. Don’t disagree with him but it’s probably something that should be kept behind the scenes.

Fred has been playing much better in Rangnick system too so its even more surprising that he would make a comment like that.
Sorry, but a contrary newb opinion here regarding Fred’s comment:
It’s just an obvious statement of fact. Who is going to suggest that we’re better off with no strategic overview or direction?
When Fred plays well, which in my view is usually, somebody will just have to find something else to criticise the guy for. We really don’t appreciate him here.

No coach can hate a player like him. Honest , hardworking and always gives his all on the pitch. And no one can tell me he doesn’t have the talent or skill set good enough. You can see time and again he’s got it. The only problem is inconsistency which isn’t only his problem it’s the whole club’s problem. I have no doubt in my mind under a very good manager and good setup he has the tools to be one of the best midfielders in the league.
Under Pep he would be a baller.

He's capable of such a high level which makes it so annoying when he is at his low level.

He'll never have the passing range or the ability to be a deep playmaker really, it puts too much pressure on him and his weaknesses. But put him as the box to box player to link up play, do some dribbling and short passing, and off the ball pressing... And he's excellent. Get a DM with a good passing range to be behind Fred and Bruno and we'll be cooking in midfield next season

One of the best performances in a red shirt from him today. From where I was sitting in the stadium it honestly looked like he was everywhere

Sensational today, just wish he could find some way to put in performances like that more consistently. Definitely helps pairing him with Matic

Just to add, he's had many games as good as this. We have heard various times in the past couple of years that "this was Fred's best ever game". Those saying this are just giving him a backhanded compliment.

I don't care what anyone says I absolutely love him. One of the few players who seems like he gets what it means to play for United. He's inconsistent but so is the entire team, I think if you give him a better partner he'd be much more consistent. At his best he's genuinely very, very good.

You're allowed to love him. I would however advise you to see a optometrist. His passing is terrible and he will lose 90/100 physical battles. His workrate is good, but should we settle for that?

He was excellent.

Him and McTominay are both better when they can harass and push forward instead of sitting and holding for us in midfield.

High tempo games like that he's as good as anyone. If it wasn't for the hattrick he would be man of the match, and he was largely responsible for it.
Sancho was the 2nd best for me. It was close, though.

He has had a ton of really good matches, I am a fan of his.

With that said he had never had a game for us where he looked so good on the ball. He looked like Modric mixed with Kante today, it is no backhanded compliment to say that is his best ever performance for us.

Mad that him playing like an actual midfielder gets so much praise.

That's a bog standard midfield performance in my book, if that's an exceptional performance from Fred it just shows how low he's set the bar.

Such a strange player. Goes from looking like a championship midfielder to a top class number 8 game to game. What a performance tonight!
