It’s a strange take he has. Overly criticising Ronaldo rather than taking issue with how Greenwood, Rashford, Martial and Cavani have all been letting us down.
I’d say just ignore such nonsense, I’m just enjoying every second of Ronaldo in a United shirt again. Savour it, he’s only here for MAXIMUM another season. The naysayers will get it their way soon enough.

Ronaldo isn't having a good season by his standards but he is definitively not having a poor season.

The problem is that no one in attack is stepping up when he isn't on form.
You want to drop Ronaldo, ok, but who will replace him?
Who deserves to win a place in the starting XI more than him at the moment?

BTW he is the 2nd best scorer of the PL now, with less games played than other players around his position.
In the CL he is 6 in 6.
How is this a bad season in absolute terms?

Great hat trick. He’s obviously not completely finished, but nor does this undo what has gone on in the last few months. He might come into some good form now, unfortunately it’s likely to be too little too late.

People will go to extreme lengths to win an argument on the Internet. I can't imagine that any United fan really has an issue with him, beyond constructive criticism of course, but this is an ugly forum nowadays and everyone connected to the club is going to get it from certain quarters.
First off, lots of people post who aren't Utd fans. Second, there's alot of non-constructive criticism on Refcafe everywhere about everyone, so I'm not sure why you'd think that.
This is an ugly forum and this is an ugly thread.
Oh, and there's alot of people in this thread who are Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Martial, etc etc fans and resent Ronaldo for stealing their thunder. (tho' it really seems more like those players are leaving their thunder under the bed at home).

Well I guess maybe because Ronaldo has always been held in unreal high standard, therefore if he isn't the best anymore, many would interpret this as "bad" season. I think its fair to say the likes of Lewandowksi, Benzema, Salah are all having clearly better season this season, so you get the idea.

But funny thing is, although Mbappe is widely regarded as one of the best player in the world currently. But truth is, in terms of productivity, he only has 15 league goals and 6 CL goals so far this season, that's only 3 more league goals than Ronaldo, who is having a so called "bad" season. Not saying Ronaldo is nearly as good nowadays as he is already 37 and isn't as consistent anymore, but you get to see the whole picture of how "bad" he is this season in relative to other best players in the game.

Ronaldo scoring a hattrick was great for us as fans and for him on a personal level. Last 3/4 months have probably been his worst run of form that I can remember since 2005 probably.

Ronaldo has to take accountability for that. If you're going to pretend like he hasn't looked poor then please have the same reaction when Maguire delivers his next defensive masterclass.

As I’ve said before I can’t wait for Ronaldo to leave for a number of reasons but first and foremost so I don’t have to put up with the fanboy nonsense from supposed United fans.

And no, one hat trick does not change that.
Being one of our greatest ever players does though.

Well yes it has been disastrous as he has barely even been good enough to keep us in the top four hunt and we went backwards signing him rather than a younger player like Vlahovic we could actually rely on every match.
Did we cancel the signing of a young striker to get Ronaldo?

What are you on about ? Why would praise for a player offend me ? Did I even say that ? This is just the sort of stupidity I’m talking about.

The bulk of our players and club as a whole deserve to be criticized regularly. Ronaldo included. Let’s not pretend he hasn’t been a disaster of a signing.

A goal every 160 minutes is decent for a team built around him but also it isn’t particularly special - Salah, Mahrez, Jota, Vardy, Sterling and Smith-Rowe are all better for example. And it’s been a strange season, Ronaldo has scored 6 of his 12 league goals against Newcastle and Spurs, he hasn’t scored in 16 of his 24 games, in anything from average to dreadful performances.

Where are you seeing hate? Any examples? I’ve seen nothing even remotely hateful posted about him. Lots of opinions that he was a bad signing, who creates more problems than he solves. That’s not the same thing as hate. Not even close to it.
It might be a bit strong to say hate, but I don't think its too far off.
The constant negativity from some seems to be overwhelming despite his achievements this season (See my original post)
The amount of blame leveled his way is unwarranted.

The only negativity I’m seeing is aimed at the decision to sign him, rather than him as a player or individual. At worst, people bring up his age and how he’s not the player he used to be (which is basically just stating facts) He’s not even getting a tiny fraction of the personal abuse that at least half our first team have been getting throughout this season. Compare this thread to the animosity in the Maguire, Pogba, Rashford, Shaw or AWB threads. Chalk and cheese. If anything Ronaldo is the least openly hated player in our squad right now.

I've seen worse than that.

He's been repeatedly blamed for Bruno and Rashford's form. Blamed for some kind of disharmony in the squad. Blamed for us not signing a younger striker.

He had a great game and I acknowledged that it was a masterclass. What more the feck do you want? Would it be mature of me to tag you if he has a shit game against Atletico or Liverpool?

I still think he's done at the top and that doesn't mean he doesn't have it in him to pull off a performance like that every once in a while but we need to look to the future.

He'll be 38 next season and will be an even bigger issue in my eyes under a manager who demands as much if not more than Ragnick.
You said ‘great game today!’, hardly a balanced assessment when you’ve produced 20+ posts slating him rather harshly. You surely can’t be surprised at getting called out after your campaign against him either.

I’m not sure Cristiano and Bruno can play effectively in the same side, seen it with Portugal and seen it at united.

Both extremely talented, both produce moments of magic that can win the game, both natural born winners - unfortunately they tend to take up similar positions in the build up and don’t really gel.

It's harsh to blame him for their form but I find it hard to believe anyone can say with a straight face that Bruno hasn't been affected by Ronaldo's presence.

Bruno was the leading man in attack before Ronaldo's return. He's simply lost that panache he possessed in bundles before this season. Even in times when Bruno's form dropped (and he had prolonged stretches of bad form before Ronaldo's arrival) he always tried to grab games by the scruff of the neck and that's not what we've seen since Ronaldo's arrival.

Further more, Bruno has had to cede penalty and freekick duties to Ronaldo even though he has a much, much better conversation rate for both than Ronaldo does. Bruno's only penalty this season if I'm correct was the miss against Villa while Solskjaer was still in charge. Bruno and Ronaldo have also failed to forge an effective partnership at national team level. No one can tell me this doesn't affect his confidence

I also mentioned in two other posts (one was in the Fred thread) that he gave a masterclass. Give the fvck over dude, and check my post history next time you decide to 'call me out'. Campaign my ass

Tired enough of your awful take posts, especially on this thread to not be bothered to go through and read all your postings individually. You come across pretty angry, hope the result yesterday put a smile on your face.

With vicious personal abuse like that I can see why people are worried about all the hate…
Sense! I can see why you've been named poster of the year not once but twice

There were a lot of ManUtd fans on this forum hurt by Ronnie winning us the game yesterday.

Long may it continue !

But hey, at least there was acknowledgement of the game he had yesterday. Lots of others simply disappeared. So at least I commend United in sin for that. Maybe the game he had was meritory of a bit more praise but I'll take some praise from people pounding him week in, week out, rather than none. At the very least, it's something.

Edit: not agreeing or disagreeing with you, just making a side note here

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.

I can say it with a straight face. And the only reason Bruno was better is because we had no attack plan under Ole. Just counter and do what ever the feck you want. Now that we actually have to hold on the ball and attack as team with a plan he is obviously not as good. Nothing to do with Ronaldo.

To be fair I hadn’t earmarked who all of the haters were, but yeah that is something. The thing about agendas is they don’t go away so they’ll all be back if he doesn’t score for a couple of games.

Just find it bizarre how so called United fans can talk about cr7 in that way and to me it’s unwarranted, the team around him is what has let us down this season.

Not sure about those saying he's getting hate.

But I think you've gone the other way in thinking the only criticism he gets is for being 37.

He's been getting some very odd stuff chucked at him. Stuff that simply doesn't exist.

How can you be so sure that it's specifically because of Ronaldo and not because of the entire team playing poorly?

For once, sense. No striker in the world would have scored more for us with the way the team around him has played all season.
That's not really true. He has missed some gilt edged chances. He should've scored against Southampton (rounded the keeper hit a tame shot that got stopped on the line), Leeds (hit the keeper from Pogba's square), Watford (hit Elanga with the goal gaping), I could go on.

Some of those misses have been costly too. An extra six points right now...

That being said, if he's worked his way back to form we can expect a huge improvement in our results. When Ronaldo is on it there's no better goalscorer in the game. We've been making chances. With Ronaldo in beast mode we'll start taking them and winning matches.
