I was thinking the other day about a game called ‘Shadow of Rome. A game released around 2004 which for me was an incredible game yet today it’s not really that recognised and because of the poor sales of the game the developers ended up cancelling the proposed sequel and they ended up making Dead Rising instead.

A well developed game with great character development, great soundtrack and a great story which again didn’t get the plaudits and awards it should of done.

Anybody have any similar games they would like to share which they feel didn’t get the appreciation it deserved.

I had a great time playing through Deliver us the moon. One of the very best and atmospheric sci fi games I’ve played.

sadly the game seems broken on ps5, there was a patch / upgrade announced last year but still waiting.

Some recent games I enjoyed that didn't get much love:

The MISSING: JJ Macfield and the Island of Memories - Smart coming-of-age horror with a twist (for fans of Gone Home, Oxenfree, Life is Strange)

The Sexy Brutale - Smart time travel puzzle game (for fans of Grim Fandango, Fez, Outer Wilds)

The Talos Principle - Smart philosophical puzzler (for fans of Portal, The Stanley Parable, The Witness)

Also think SOMA deserves a mention. People were disappointed it wasn't Amnesia 2 (and RIP Frictional Games) but the narrative is super interesting.

Agreed. Phenomenal game. Such a shame that Final Fantasy 13 was such a load of shite and yet this beauty came out two years beforehand under the radar by THE Final Fantasy master.

Shadow of War. Bloody amazing and I never thought in a million years it would have siege battles too.

Circuit Breakers on the PS1

I loved playing that game with my cousins, upto 4 players going at it. A fun racing game with power ups and you can knock people off tracks.

Was sad to see reviews of it years later because it apparently was a knock off of Micro Machines, which I never played

Thirded. It's a better game than FF10 for me (v. similar in style).
Yeah, I didn't even care about it until I found out who made it and then I rushed out to get it. So good.

Little big adventure II (Aka. Twinsen's Odyssey)

Crazy to think it's already 25 years old.
I loved that game when I was little! Would literally learn English from it, trying to translate every word to understand what was being said for clues etc

Beyond Good and Evil. Was a fantastic PS2 game with great graphics and a brilliant story but did not, as I recall, get the attention it deserved despite universal praise from critics. Wouldn't be surprised if part of its ‘problem’ was that it had a female lead character.

Good choice! They announced a sequel ages ago but I'd be surprised if it ever came out :(

Thrasher - Skate & Destroy
Little Big Adventure
King Field's III

Demoilition Racer - solid alternative to Destruction Derby with much superior OST.

Road Rash Jailbreak was superb sequel to original Road Rash and Road Rash 3D. Best feel to bike gang wars in entire series imo.

Slap Happy Rhythm Busters - Cell shading fighting game with soundtracks from few decent Japanese DJs plus music rhythm based combos and fatalities. This should be as popular as Guilty Gear X. It wasn't and it's a pity.

Satisfactory. The best factory building game to date, yet not many people play it. Shame as its fecking incredible.

Shits on Factorio, much more fun that Dyson Sphere. It's just glorious. Sunk far, far too many hours into this beast of a game.

Yeah it's a toughy for sure, especially those time puzzles, but the philosophical ideas behind it are super interest (as the devs themselves were keen to point out).
That’s a really interesting set of posts. It always felt like there was a depth to it, maybe I’ll start it all again looking through fresh eyes. When I played it before I was racing through it trying to keep up with my son who was playing it on his laptop at the time.

Yeah, that was a great game. I've been waiting impatiently for the sequel for years now.

My votes would be for the Dreamfall series of games (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: Chapters). Amazing world building and storyline and highly praised in its genre. Chapters got made purely because of its **** status 10 years later.
