This thread is bizarre to say the least .

It feels like him scoring a hat trick and saving us yesterday was a bad thing for some posters as it is ruining their narrative on him

Because he generally is, his football skills have nothing to do with him often acting like a petulant child. No amount of goals will change that.

Nothing weird about that, what weird is the fanboy cult around him where he can do no wrong, that is the weird thing.
You constantly refer to fans being positive about Ronaldo as this fanboy cult/Ronaldo FC bollocks. You do realise he's been utd's best player this season? Fans support their star players. It's like trying to belittle a fan for supporting their own club. It's a bizarre and weird outlook to have.

This is a little hate cult in here, very passionate about Ronaldo being the problem and has caused a rift in the dressing room.

If you disagree with their passionate hate towards him then you're automatically called a fanboy.

Like your post I find it very strange so called United fans would hate on any player playing well in the shirt.

Hell I for one despise Maguire and have not been a fan of Rashfords for nearly 2 years but when they play well in the shirt they get the plaudits because they are doing the club proud.

So I find it very strange that one of the best players that our club has ever seen gets so much hate after playing his best in CL to get us as far as he did, has tried his best to adapt to a new managers style and adapt again to the most competitive league in the world all while playing for probably the worst united squad (at least mentality wise) I have ever seen, and still managing to get 21 goals, a feat very few strikers have managed since Fergie retired.

Baffled would be an understatement.

It is about a bit of balance in general though. I mean he is not exactly as good as he should be for us which is not exactly surprising here with his age and the situation we are in.

But to yell at fans for having some funs whenever he does good is weird as this guy did not just come to us at 37. He was here when he was 18 and did everything already with this club.

And every footballer has their own personal ambition. Without it, the clubs they are playing at would not win shit. You wish the likes of Pogba and those who joined us for the past 5 - 10 years had some of it. Well, Pogba does with his national team at least, proving my point.

Yes it is, for next season anyway.
Priority
1. Build a proper midfield by getting in a quality defensive mid and deep lying playmaker
2. Sort the full back problem out.
Promote Laird, Alvaro and get Shaw fit again. Sell AWB, Telles, Dalot and get a new RB.
3. Replace Maguire.
4. Bring in a young ST as rotation option (less important if selling Martial turns out to be impossible).

Once the first 3 priorities are sorted our team's consistency and functionality will improve, and Ronaldo will benefit as the focal point. That's not to say we don't need a 2nd centre forward, but Ronaldo is still good enough and we should try and keep hold of him whilst we work on the bigger issues.

This is such a lazy narrative to have, instead of it’s only one more year of his contract left after scoring 21 goals (so far) it’s “building a team around”. We are already 3/4 strikers down for various reasons Ronaldo is least of our worries at the minute.

Because he's a cnut who also wanted to join City, and let alone the fact that he called himself a slave here when United didn't let him go to Madrid. The surprising thing is rather that so many seem to be kissing his ass despite the fact that he doesn't care about United, only himself. He's no saint outside the pitch either, which is kind of problematic when you consider our off-the-pitch problems with some of our players lately...

Ronaldo is very good for his age but as a player, he isn't anything special anymore. He has like 6, 7 great games this season, the rest very mediocre or even poor. He's obviously an all-time great and all that but I have no love for him, and I know many who feel the same way. Cantona, Scholes, Charlton etc is United greats, not Ronaldo.
Nonsense. All absolute nonsense. He agreed with what Blatter said, that United should allow him to leave. For me, he’s entitled to do that as a kid from the Iberian Peninsula who doubtless dreamt of playing for Real all his life. He never ever said anything about slavery, and if he did feel that way, would have celebrated like a madman when he scored against us in 2013. Fergie has also never had a bad word to say about him, and knowing the man, he would have annihilated Ronaldo if he did say that.

Also, if he wanted to join City, he bloody well would have! Any normal human being without ties to United would choose City at this moment in time. Instead, once United made an approach, his mind was made up.

As for off the pitch, if you’re talking about the dozen year old accusations, he has literally been cleared twice. Yes, his team did pay the girl compensation, but that’s also been clarified many times to be an act to prevent his reputation being dragged through the mud. He has a brand to protect. Otherwise, you should go an educate yourself on the charity he partakes in and the amount of blood he donates regularly. For one, don’t you find it strange that he doesn’t have a tattoo? The blood donations are the reason why.

No, he’s not up there with Scholes, Cantona and Charlton, but so what? Why do you have to be as big a legend as them to be a great? Ronaldo is a legend in his own right, and it’s ridiculous that you’re actually trying to discredit his 21 goals this season, as a 37 year old in a sluggish team who create a minimal amount of chances most of the time. That is all the proof you need that he’s a special player, and as for many fans not loving him….just read social media. In fact, listen to OT on match days, please.

Of the top of my head I can name 3-4 names on here that form the little Ronaldo dislike club on here.

I find it weird "fanboys" get called out on a man united forum. So now supporting and cheering on one of your own who is our leading scorer is bad.

The same negative posters come in here with some "I told you so!" Level of posts every time he has a quite game.

As another poster said, him scoring a hattrick has been a problem for some posters. This is a guy in his twilight years scoring his last few goals and people are moaning.

Has more non penalty goals than salah which is hilarious, to be fair salah seems to have been shot after rendezvousing with queiroz at the national team camp.

His goals have come in a small number of games though so have contributed to us winning a smaller number of points than they might have if spread out

Indeed you are correct, though most of his goals have been match winning ones so that might counter balance that.

On the other hand there was that statistic posted here about a month ago about how many of Ronaldo's goals were winners, equalisers or openers and almost none were stat padding, almost all of his goals have gained us points.

Outside of the fanboys/anti circus I think there's a lot of frustration. I can relate because we pretty much live the same thing at PSG with Messi (bar the nostalgia). You expect a player like Ronaldo to be consistent, to crank up your team and to be a special player. The thing is, he's not anymore and a hat trick against Norwich won't change that (the same way that Messi delivering 3 assists last week didn't change the fact that his season is bad). So if he didn't make United competitive this season and considering the fact that you can't build around him because of his age, what's the point of him being here with the best salary in the country?

I'm not saying it completely cancels it out for Ronaldo and Messi, but you can't just look at their wages and say this is how much they're costing the club, their commercial value clearly offsets their wages to an extent, and neither us nor psg are paying half a million a week just for Ronaldo and Messi the players, they're paying that for the brand and sponsors are likely to pay a bit more with the two most famous footballers in the world on our respective teams. Like i said it probably won't cancel out their wages entirely but it does reduce the net amount we're paying for each

Like I've said here before, you have to enjoy this.

You can't reduce football to just winning trophies or it all becomes a bit miserable.

If you don't appreciate one of the all time greats playing at your club and holding his own at 37 there's no helping you.
I have loved the Ronaldo return this season. The one bright spot in an otherwise dull season.

An hattrick against Norwhich? As if it was some dead rubber game. Ronaldo got us winning points. Go check on stats on how man winning goals he has scored this season. Trust me, most fans here love what he has done this season overall. Were it not for him, we wouldn't even make it to the CL knockout round. We wouldn't be anywhere near top 4 as well.

That is nothing compared to Messi's 3 goals in Uber Eats league

There's a chance this works in his favour, although I haven't personally ran the numbers. It's better to score twice to win 1 and not score in the next game to lose 1, than it is to score only once in 2 games and draw both. I think also, this is how most strikers play. Berba scored like this when he was our top scorer and we won the league that season.

Also, he might have scored 6 times in 2 games against Tottenham and Norwich, but those 6 goals got us 6 points.

I think his level is fine and I expect him to be able to continue this next season too, if he'll stick around. He just needs the right support, he doesn't have to be a detriment.

He is not the player he was but I’m still convinced that with a functioning team around him he still gets 30+ a year.

The one thing I will say though is I was shocked by how bad his touch has gotten. It gets away from him sometimes and that never used to happen. Surprisingly he’s still pretty fast which is the first thing you would expect him to lose.

I don't see why he can't be viewed as a good stop gap for parts of the rebuild. The squad has some very big problems. Having Ronaldo around for a year or two while the new manager sorts out our horrendous full back options and defensive midfield issues is not a bad thing and we're already desperately short of attacking options.

Just mentioned it in a different thread but ideally that would be exactly what we would do. Even if we sign a new CF as planned, having Ronaldo in the squad makes sense as we're thin on options and he can obviously still score goals.

The problem is that signing that new starting CF immediately means Ronaldo being benched more often, including in some of the biggest games. At which point the question becomes whether that's something the often petulant and demonstrative Ronaldo is happy to accept. Because if he isn't, it's a disruptive factor throughout the season.

In other words the suspicion is that Ronaldo either needs to be starting regularly enough to be happy or he needs to leave, because he'll just be an unhappy side-show if relegated to a role where he's our second-choice CF and misses out in the biggest games. But that latter role is what we would actually need him for next season.

We won the league that season with Berba but we also had Rooney and hernandez. Berba wasn't even on the bench for the cl final.

Such an ABU article. People initially thought he would be a disaster. Now he is only 2 goals short of Salah , they are changing the narrative now. He is a great player but blah blah.

Point is , he is still very productive in right circumstances. It's up to ETH to create that setup

Is every striker not "an eventual 38 year-old"?
He’ll he 38 next season. He’ll demand to play every game and not he subsituted. He’ll when he benched for a big game have his people put out stories to undermine the manager. These things have all happened this season.

Personally I think we should stop the stop gapping and play how we intend to in a few years are title winners. Which we most likely cannot do with Ronaldo here

considering how terrible some areas of our squad are and how urgently they need fixing i'd say a stop gap here or there wouldn't be too bad. If Ronaldo is here next year and the transfer money is invested in getting full backs that are good and a defensive midfielder then i'd be very happy to have Ronaldo here for another season.

It would be bad if it doesn’t fit with how we want to play

It was also when he was in the peak of his powers and quite literally the best or second best player in world football by some distance. League quality is immaterial.

He has 2 hat tricks in the PL at the age of 37 in the space of a month. Joke of a league…?
He was also at his peak in 2007-2009 in Manchester United and he only managed to score one hattrick.

Please use this thread for player performance chat and not the passing of Ronaldo's child. Start a new thread in the United for that.

He wasn’t near his goalscoring peak in those years. He played more as an orthodox winger.

It’s safe to say that going by the fact that he could hit 20 league goals or more at 37(!) in the PL in such a dysfunctional team implies that he’d likely wreck the league and score the 40+ he was scoring in league play for Madrid if he was playing here during those years with a good side behind him.

He’d have shattered every PL goal record if he played here from 26 onwards.
