Just kidding. Only the formations listed will be allocated.
You've lost your edge, man.

I was looking forward to huge meltdowns and whatnot.

Seriously, though - if this draft plays out well, we could think about doing a more extreme version of it (with all kinds of - historical - formations being involved).

Could be a fun concept, actually.

My first pick would've been - ideally - Gio's (no surprise there).
When you wake up in the middle of the night and realise it’s your turn, he was the most straightforward plug-into-each-shape-no-questions-asked pick going.

Right.

But - honestly - would you have taken Zico or Ronaldo over him?

Not me - normally. But like I said - in this thing, given the blocks, I genuinely/honestly would've gone for Lothar as my first pick.
I'd never pass on Fenomeno, especially given the blocks. There are also more GOAT attackers blocked compared to midfielders (just Rijkaard, Breitner and Desailly).

Having said that given the pool / blocks if I didn't get Fenomeno, might have gone Baresi/Lother myself next.

Well one reason that would make me hesitate picking R9 is trying to accommodate him as the 1 in a 4231. For me he doesn't suit the lone front man in such a setup.

Yeah - fair enough. Also - probably overthinking the theme. I mean, Lothar may be the ultimate midfielder (in the sense that you can field him as pretty much anything in that general range as a top class player - meaning DM, CM and even AM to some degree) - but then again there isn't any formation here which can't accommodate Ronaldo.

And Ronaldo is...well, Ronaldo - and a bigger asset than Lothar as such, yes.

Right - I have to feck off for a while.

I'm sending...4 picks (in order of preference) to EAP.

Very likely idiotic choices - but there you go.

See you all later.

If Diego wasn't block (and if I wasn't 15th) would take him for that 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1 and one of the most beautiful set up I've seen in Atletico Madrid scheme 4-4-2 as a second striker.

Invi, of course. Bless him. Have to find that somewhere...

He played in 4-2-3-1(de la Pena was AM and Figo/Enrique flanked him) at Barcelona. Was lone target man for Inter on many occasions when they started cagey formations.

TBF fielding Matthaus as DM would raise some eyebrows as I've seen in draft games in the past(although I have no issues with it). IMO CB and CF is the easiest route as first pick as either of those position works with whatever formation you can muster.

I'm surprised at some of the blocks though like Best and Vogts. If versatility was the issue Puskas IMO is more versatile and works in pretty much all of the OP formations.

I could see him being questioned as a - say - designated DM in certain setups...or rather I could see him being questioned as a "final worthy" player in very specific setups. In the sense that he isn't heavy enough defensively to play certain DM roles - but, yeah, that would have to be a "final worthy" kind of thing, mostly.

Would be interesting to see when the goat wingers go considering winger less formations are possible too.

Right there. I'd have gone for his next choice personally, but with Garrincha....I don't see him as a misfit in a couple of formations.
He's a bit of a gamble, I admit.

But then again, we do have some wiggle room with the 13 man squad - so, worst case scenario, I'll just bench him.

In sober hindsight, though - I probably should've gone for the next man on the list, yep.
