They probably are ahead of us because people (particularly foreigners) are more attracted to the idea of being in London because, well, they don’t realise how crap London is.

It’s an issue we’ve always faced to some degree. If we’re in a similar position to a London club we’ll have a difficult time convincing them to choose us.
Londons great if you have money

I don't understand why people still think or hope it's the manager when the players have been playing inconsistent crap for 10 years now
Of yesterday's match day squad, only Jones and De Gea have been there for 10 years. The majority of the squad is relatively new. Fans blame a continuity of underachievement on players that have no past at the club and aren't responsible for what fans had to suffer before, when clearly that continuity of underachievement has been on the side of management, be it board level or coaching.

Yes the Borussia Dortmund model of footballing stewardship is the one we ought to be replicating. That is if we had the right hierarchy in place to competently run the club from top to bottom. Stop buying name brand players and focus on younger hungrier talents with the appetite to prove themselves on the big stage.
That’s a joke. Seriously. We have almost double the revenue of Dortmund. They bring in young talent, true, but they sell them for a profit so they can balance the books on while they waste money on Hummels, Reus and Witsel. Combine that with the fact that they’ll never win the CL.

If anything, we should be following a Real/ Chelsea model of buying lots of young players with promise as well as strategic buys of players in their prime in certain positions to reel in silverware.

Strategy is not as important as competence. Any number of strategies would work well for United. Whether you are buying brand name players or young hungry talents, it doesn't matter if you don't know how to pick from either group.

Whats the strategy for overpaid egos and a dressing room containing 10 players wanting out in a bloated squad? How do you motivate them?

Little doubt Ralf is massively influencing the major positive changes happening structurally. Il take losing every game of the season since he came for that.

The changes in the right direction structurally are paramount to medium and long term success. I want to make strides to see us win major silverware, not be a club of irrelevance.

Lots of journalists appear to completely misunderstand the role of a consultant. It’s really, really strange, almost as if you’d think they are deliberately missing the point of his role in order to take a pop at the club.

Of course Rangnick can take on the Austria role and provide consultancy to the club. Most consultants work with several clients, whether it be business, education or sport.

If Rangnick had managed to get results and we sat safely in the top four then this wouldn’t be an issue.

That would have seen us relegated.

The changes are due to the people who are in the position to affect those changes. I.e., Murtough, Arnold, Fletcher. Rangnick is the interim manager tasked and occupied with, as he himself has confirmed about three dozen times, coaching and preparing the team for the rest of the season and getting the best possible results and performances in the present.
He also has confirmed many times that he was not involved in the talks about the new manager and, until recently, hadn't spoken with the club board about the details of his consultancy nor any other strategic decisions. He's also not preparing a "dossier" where he "exposes" your players or any such nonsense.

Why are you guys so determined to attach acts and accomplishments to Ralf Rangnick that he clearly did not do and clearly could not have done? Why not actually credit your club's people who are doing those things, and who have managed to hire an excellent, exciting manager for the future? It's fecking weird and continues to be weird.

Rangnick is highly regarded by Murtough. You'd struggle to argue against the notion that he was influencial toward the decision in that regard.

Everything he has openly criticised structurally has been changed and taken on board. Permanent managers with pedigree couldn't influence that let alone interim ones.

Yet more gibberish. You don't get a medal for pointing out what's wrong with United, a blind monkey could tell you that. God forbid we get the interim manager to win a football match though.

Great post. It's so tiring to listen to idiots wetting their panties about Rangnick. The clown manager seems to have magical powers to do everything except manage a win for his team!

As if it took Rangnick to point out to Murtough that recruitment of managers and players had been inconsistent and patchy in the past years. Maybe before Rangnick told him, Murtough also didn't know that the resale value of younger players is higher than of someone like Cavani? Murtough became DoF last year. If positive changes are happening, it should be regarded as fruits of his work.

But not everyone could convince the higher ups to accept it.

Almost as tiring as listening to those trying to discredit Ragnick. The guy has achieved in the 2nd part of the season as much as Ole achieved in the first part of the season.

The reality is none of us know if Ralf is having an effect behind the scenes so getting your knickers in a twist over it is silly. What you can say is Ralf was brought in to manage the team and to stay on to help with the rebuilding behind the scenes. Since he has been here, whether its down to him or arnold there has definitely been restructuring behind the scenes that seem to be positive changes. So its weird that people seem to be upset that a guy whose reputation is successfully helping rebuild clubs is staying on as a consultant at a club that needs rebuilding.

The majority of the posters seem to be taking out there frustrations on Rangnick which is fair enough. To then go and say hes a clown manager etc and he should leave is stupid. Ragnick is as much of a clown manager as Ole was.

It's obviously Murtough's doing, but he most likely did bring in Rangnick to get a second opinion from a (mostly) neutral party. Some of these changes had probably already been decided for certain, some may have been still uncertain. Some may have already had replacements lined up, others Rangnick may have had his opinion asked about which new people to bring in. And everything I said there will probably be true for the football team on the field as well.

Rangnick won't be the decision-maker for any of these things. I do see a lot of people overstating his impact. But I also think you are understating it, as his recommendations may swing things one way or the other on aspects that were previously uncertain. Hell, even if he's not actually talking about individuals, I'm sure Murtough is picking his brains about the general structure and ideas. Murtough seems to know what he's doing (although maybe that's wishful thinking) so I do believe Rangnick was specifically chosen for his ability to do more than just managing until the end of the season...even if that was his main role which hasn't really worked out.

So much gibberish why did it take till now to make such an obvious change?

Right, so if Murtough's the one who is competent and knows what he's doing, then why did he hire Ralf specifically if Ralf is so dreadful? The logic doesn't stand up. Surely most likely scenario is that if Murtough is competent, he avoided appointing a short term fix manager like Conte and opted for an expert in club building because he wanted some insight into the squad and how it could be prepared to become competitive in modern football again. That just seems so likely considering that Ralf's appointment has been followed by other structural changes and then Ten Hag.

But maybe Murtough is the competent mind behind it all and that's why he hired dreadful Rangnick so that we could miss top 4 and champions league money. Because that really makes sense..

Man it’s
top 4 was gone before he came in, Rangnick is not a miracle worker and worked out quickly that the players couldn’t do what he wanted and that some of them completely downed tools. He is extremely knowledgeable and every thing he says we should do a wise person would listen.
A traffic cone would be better at negotiating than Matt judge

Hence in mid December you could more than double your money by betting on us missing out.

You know what’s weird?
Both of those head recruiters decided to just up and leave all of a sudden.
I mean they were such a big part of all of the successes here.
Both of them?
At the same time?
Maybe they wanted a bigger challenge?

Are you trying to credit Rangnick for that clown Woodward leaving?
No. Im saying Rangnick is likely influencial in our overhaul of scouting, managerial choice and recruitment. As seen from his open criticism of player choices before scouts were sacked, his open views of player contracts begore judge is sacked and the well credible reports that he pushed for Ten Hag before Ten Hag was hired.

Theres more to show that Ralf has been influential than the suggestion he hasn't.

I wonder what the reason is for him to talk so much in public about United's hierarchy. I wonder if it's to make himself look better or why he's doing it. Murtough seems to love him (and I saw them sitting together at a U23 game I think). I wonder what Murtough thinks about his comments, it's not like Murtough doesn't know that United has been poorly run.

Mate the only one here stupidly thinking is you!

"miracle manager that you and your ill" mate what is this? the politics thread with left v right? Jesus, who said he's a miracle manager? the majority of people acknowledge that he has done nothing special as a manager whether before united or at united. Pointing out that his strengths are behind the scenes rather than as a manager doesnt change that point. But that wouldn't fit your weird narrative of everyone calling Rangnick a "miracle manager . No one said that, you know no one is saying that so stop getting yourself worked up over it.
