Raphinha from Leeds
Sure, but more often than not relegation passes without any of the relegated outfits passing on players to teams in the higher echelons. There's a bit of a danger of picking up someone that looks stand out amid a sea of relegation fodder.Let’s not forget Liverpool bought Robertson from a relegated Hull - there are some gems to be found.
Fully agree. It was obvious from the get go Keane would flop and crumble under the pressure.I wouldn't take any player from a relegated team. The players clearly weren't up for performing at the bottom end of the table when the pressure was on, so they definitely won't be able to handle the pressure at a club like United with huge expectations. Not to mention they would be coming to the club low on confidence.
These are not the types of player the squad needs to get the club back to the top.
No they didn’t think he would be as good as he’s been, but most people thought it was a very good signing. He didn’t get much of a chance with your lot, but he was great in Italy and, let’s not forget, he was a Liverpool club record signing. No one predicted what Klopp got from Salah. No doubt he would get the best out of Raphinha.
I’d take Raphinha in a heart beat at Chelsea.
Keane came to a United team that had just won the Premier League and was full of talent and strong characters. That is not the same as coming into a United team just off their worst season in PL history, where the team is disjointed. It is completely different.Fully agree. It was obvious from the get go Keane would flop and crumble under the pressure.
I'm glad we let Liverpool have Wijnaldum too. He was a better fit for a club that's content with winning trinkets such as Champions League cups.
You've failed to adress your initial reasoning for why you would never sign relegated players:Keane came to a United team that had just won the Premier League and was full of talent and strong characters. That is not the same as coming into a United team just off their worst season in PL history, where the team is disjointed. It is completely different.
Wijnaldum didn't start to perform massively until Klopp had his system in place for a few years and it can be argued that Klopp had him and many other players performing above and beyond their level. We don't know if the same will happen with ETH. Bringing players in from relegated teams in his first season as the manager is very risky as ETH will be expected to make the team perform pretty quickly.
Cantwell cant even get into the Bournemouth starting eleven down in the championship on loan, how does he feature hereMax Aarons, Pukki, Cantwell will all be looked at by PL clubs
Yeah, I think that's about it. I don't think that Phillips is good enough.Raphinha from Leeds
He’s bang average. My dad is a Leeds fan so I watch them all the time. Bamford when Leeds got promoted from the championship he ended that season with the worst conversion rate in the league.Am I the only one that would consider bamford from Leeds given the lack of quality strikers available in the market
You have named 3 players from a list of hundreds that have been relegated and have then went on to win league titles not long after. 99% of players in relegated teams don't go on to then perform at the elite level. Just because you are able to name a tiny proportion of them, doesn't mean my initial statement is incorrect. You've failed to adress your initial reasoning for why you would never sign relegated players:
"The players clearly weren't up for performing at the bottom end of the table when the pressure was on, so they definitely won't be able to handle the pressure at a club like United with huge expectations."
This is simply bullshit and doesnt describe Keano or Wijnaldum.
You can come up with all sorts of reasons why Keane, Wijnaldum, Robertson were sucesses, but you dont mention the obvious one, that they were good players in a shit team.
I don't know how theres more risk in signing a relegated player, but let it be known you wouldnt want ETH to sign the next Roy Keane if he played for Burnley, because it's a risk according to your dogma.
Have you watched him this season? He hasn’t pulled any trees up and hasn’t always been picked.I'd take Aarons from Norwich. Feels like he's made to play at the top end of the league, which is why he's been so instrumental to Norwich coming up every season.
Don’t know what happened to him but he has ability.Cantwell cant even get into the Bournemouth starting eleven down in the championship on loan, how does he feature here
Scored against us and people got excited about it . Truth is he’s overratedDon’t know what happened to him but he has ability.
Feck no . Could do without a player who sulks when he’s hauled off / left on benchOf all the options listed so far, I think Richarlison is the pick of the bunch. Maybe Gray as a rotation option. Raphina the same, I just don't think he's a player you can rely on every week and people only talk about him when he has a good week. I just don't rate Phillips at all. The likes of Sarr, no chance.
They will be looked at by teams in the bottom half of the table.Max Aarons, Pukki, Cantwell will all be looked at by PL clubs
Patrick Bamford might be a good impact sub. This season he was injured for a few months, but season before he finished on 17 goals, joint 4th best with Bruno, Son, and Salah. He's 29 end of this year. Might be the kind of player to bring on in the last 20 minutes when you need a goal, he can pour 90 minutes of running into a 20 minutes cameo. He might have an escape clause if Leeds go down. It wouldn't quite be the super-sub Ole thing, but at 29, a striker can't keep the pace up the whole game.So Norwich have been confirmed relegated, and Watford are pretty much down.
It's a toss-up between Leeds and Everton for the third spot.
Are there any bargains that can be picked up on the cheap from any of these teams?
Can't see many I'd take from Norwich and Watford but hoping Leeds go down so we can make a double bid for Phillips and Raphinha. Would address a couple of our problem positions.
I fear he has the right amount of raw talent and mentality for someone like Klopp to get a tune out of him.Would bloody love it if they made that switch!
It'd be like switching peak Pamela Anderson out of Baywatch for (add unattractive name here)
Stylistically someone who cuts in from the right, with good dribbling ability and can generally beat multiple players at a time and is pretty quick as well. And gets into plenty of scoring positions while also missing or hitting the post a lot of times - which is something Klopp can possibly fine tune and get his output up. Overatll technically he's excellent. Also versatile enough to fit into that fluid front 3. Off the ball although he's a bit clumsy and aggressive at times but still can press and track back his opponent. Klopp would appreciate him having played under Bielsa and bring a lot of those qualities with him.why would he fit ?
Diaz and Jota can cover the left and central positions but in a situation Salah ends up leaving (he's said recently I think that Liverpool is not offering what he wants), they'd need a right sided forward. A front three of Diaz - Jota - Raphinha with the likes of Mane and Firmino knocking about can keep them going. Can't see many better options.Don’t see Salah going and they’ve just got Diaz on one wing, think midfield is their priority.
What's the clause? I don't see Everton caching Leeds so I'd expect him to be expensive.Raphinha is the one with the most upside from all the teams near the bottom. That relegation clause will definitely be met by someone if Leeds go down.
From the others - it'll be between Phillips, Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, depending on who goes down. Probably won't be targets for any of the top English clubs though.
Everton will probably want 50M for each of them but can't see anyone offering that. I sure hope Arsenal has buried the DCL link for good.Everton will go down
What do people reckon would he the fees for DLC and Richarlison? They seem to the obvious ones for clubs looking at Everton.
Seems too steep to make sense.Everton will probably want 50M for each of them but can't see anyone offering that. I sure hope Arsenal has buried the DCL link for good.
It's supposed to be a £25m clause in his contract becomes active if Leeds go down. Obviously he's a less appealing option if Leeds stay up.What's the clause? I don't see Everton caching Leeds so I'd expect him to be expensive.
Yes. He's really fast but very error prone. I don't see him at United. I suppose his versatility counts for him. He's play RB, CB and LB this season. Raphina is the obvious one and Phillips. Richardlison too. Apparently Everton don't have relegation pay cuts in a lot of their contracts so it could be a big fire sale. Anthony Gordon is another I'd be interested in. He's one of the hardest working players in his position in the league. Exactly what we're missing because he plays for the team and with a lot of guts. There's a question if his on the ball quality is good enough but at 21 he's still got time to improve. He'd definitely bolster the squad at least. Is Ben Godfrey average?
Be like swapping Lingard for Dele Ali that. Worked with a lad who was a Season Ticket holder with Spurs and the consensus of his match going matesI can't believe nobody has mentioned Dele Alli! he is full of ability, he would be so cheap, pop him out on a 3 month loan deal to a Championship club to get some confidence back, then he can be our super sub in a way that Olli Gunner was.
