Just look at Rudiger and how much his stock has gone up from being a joke of a defender playing in a back 4 under Lampard to being a player wanted by the best clubs in Europe after playing in a back 3 with 2 defensive minded players ahead of him.
Exactly. A year and a half ago most of this forum wouldn't have fancied him.

I have been banging this drum for a while now. From the links it looks like we will neglect midfield again and only add 1. We atleast need a dm and a CM. A rw and a cf.
Yes, and the same goes for our wide forwards like Rashford who do not always tracks back. Our fullbacks are poor but Klopp would never allow such lazy defending unless you are prime Messi.

I don't know if you have seen the picture of where Rashford was standing as Alonso scored for Chelsea. It was embarrassing.

All those saying don’t buy defenders we need a midfield, I understand your point but you guys are missing a huge point. Bailly and Jones have indicated they are leaving. Matic who sometimes covered CB is leaving. This season all 3 of Varane, Maguire and Lindelof were prone to injuries.
we need to extra. We can’t go through a season with 3 CBs. Timber is a good option as he can also play RB

Bailly and Jones indicated they are leaving ? I must of missed this. Please tell me this is true. I was just about to go to bed instead of opening a second bottle of wine.

We need a CB, a RB (timber) , a LB, 2 cm, 1 RW(anthony) and 1 striker imo.

Seems quite the impressive prospect at his age. Speaks volumes that most Ajax fans seem to believe he's been their best player this season

Yes so much noise that someone who's Dutch and an Ajax fan that views/reads pretty much every football related media hasn't seen anything of it lately.
I thought half of Ajax’ team was going to Bayern anyways. Any news about Timber being linked to Munich?

Didn’t Timber recently state that he’d like to continue with Ajax for another season? Or did I imagine that? Not that, that necessarily means it’s cast in stone (players wishes could change, he could be persuaded or Ajax could want to cash in etc).

Do you want to go into a new season with Varane, Maguire and Lindelof as the 3 main CBs? With no backup?
I think it's about priorities and while I don't disagree that we are light and we do need to re-stock, I just don't want us to spend massive money on a potentially fourth choice CB if the alternative is that we could sign a midfielder that currently looks like he has the potential to be world class like Tchouameini. I'd rather spend proper money on midfield and the forwards and look for value signings at right wing, both side fullbacks and centre back unless someone really outstanding emerges to the market.

We desperately need a CDM, a striker and a new CB. Maguire and Lindelöf are not good enough to be our main defenders.

Cdm and cm are higher priority. A midfield that can keep the ball and control the game will improve our defense more than a CB would.

Oh yeah those two positions are easily the highest priority in the team without doubt

Pretty sure Timber could hold a midfield, he looks comfortable when he steps into midfield and carries the ball well, he's press resistant and has a good range of passing. Lad can play 3 positions at least, he'd be a good addition to the squad IMO

Sounds like a carbon copy of what Blind brought to us under LVG

I don't think our CB needs are that urgent. When Varane came, I always felt that we had made the wrong decision, and that with a better holding midfielder, the defence wouldn't have needed upgrading immediately even then. I don't know a lot about this kid at all, but I do feel that our CBs are decent and will function much much better if they can offload the ball to confident, good on the ball midfielders who can take the ball forward.

You put this kid at CB behind a midfield of Fred/McT/Matic/Pogba he would probably be ripped to pieces just like any CB we have.

Do you not think buying players to fill out the squad is just a bad move in general? We should be spending the big bucks on nailed down starters at this point and let the lads who's spots they take become our squad players. In many ways Timber is a very exciting prospect. I'd have major concerns with a 5'10 centre back in the premier league. I appreciate that he can play right back and dm but at this point I just want to get the best players available in the positions we need them. Buying a centre back because we think he could do a job in midfield or right back isn't a whole pile different to buying Donny or Pogba and sticking them in the double pivot when they are both attacking midfielders.

100% agree with this. Ronaldo and himself were two vanity signings. Don't even think Varane is a bad player (although he's been underwhelming) but it's the opportunity cost of not being able to make the signings that would have really pushed us on. The two signings we missed out on recently that most disappointed me were Moises Caicedo and Camavinga.

Caicedo became a bit of a meme on here but he had a fantastic reputation and was available for peanuts and now it looks like he's really coming good. I also believe he'd have got more playing time with us than he did with Brighton for the last couple of years. Camavinga was another who we should really have pulled out all the stops. He's not the holding midfielder that we really need but signing him would have been a statement of intent and would mean we only have one midfielder to buy this year. The whole transfer strategy has just been so depressing under Woodward and the Glazers. They cannot resist an ego boosting signing like Ronaldo at the expense of more modest but pragmatic ones.

He won’t be a squad filler, if we buy him, it’ll be as Ten Hag wants him. He’ll be a regular wherever he’s playing. He’s an instant improvement on our right back options. He’s played there before, it’s not an opinion it’s a fact. Go watch him a lot, he’s pretty frequently playing in a much more advanced role at Ajax, carries the ball exceptionally well.

I like him, I like his aggressiveness despite his size. It goes a long way in the PL.
If we can get him for a reasonable fee I don’t see why not

yes he did, at least twice. But then again, is he sticking to his words when a huge offer comes in.

If we do somehow sign him, where are we playing him? Seems to be a very versatile player but undersized for CB position in the PL.

Think it seems more likely that both him and Antony wait til next summer for a move

Sounds like he's going to try and convince Timber to join him at United.

Already referring to Ajax as “their”, cold.

Sounds like he knows Antony isn’t for sale but Timber could leave.
