I don't know why people thought he would be cheap, Ajax rate him very highly. They got £40 million off us for VDB and Timber will be about the same.

Jamie Jackson blocked me because I said he used full stops too much back in 2014.
Why is he such a wanker? During that Ten Hag interview he was acting like a knock off Gallagher brother. I kept imagining Ten Hag thinking "who the feck is this smug prat?"

Anything above 20m for this kid will be a joke and a sign that things haven't changed a bit at United.
As an Ajax fan I wouldnt take 20m + Maguire and you paid 80m for that guy. Some Ajax fans expect De Ligt type of fees for Timber and that's also not realistic, but 20m is a complete pisstake. 30-35m pounds should be about it.

Exactly, why’s people saying we shouldn’t be paying more then 20m for him? He’s a lot better then Maguire and we paid 80 for him. 30-40m mark will be a reasonable fee for timber. People are forgetting he’s still very young and will develop his game and we’ll easily be able to make profit on him if we was to sell him on further down the line. Hopefully we sign him though and he becomes a club legend and grows with us into one of the best cb in Europe.

35-40 million is a very fair fee. Isn't this lad one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe? Also playing for a secure club, they are not exactly a tin pot side that are under immense pressure to sell. They sell because mostly that's what makes business sense, buying and bringing through players that are good enough to win Dutch league titles and then selling the best on, rinse and repeat. They don't really need to keep their players to be successful but that doesn't mean selling them for silly fees.

Even van de Beek wasn't a ridiculous fee, it was just ridiculous scouting and an unnecessary buy from us.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

We’ve still got PTSD (post transfer super disappointment) from the last time we bought a young ’all of Europe wants him’ player.

Can you personally guarantee this one won’t sulk and amble around?

Might as well stop trying to get young talents altogether then.

Madrid signed a wonderkid who everyone wanted in Odegaard years ago who didn't work out for them, that hasn't dissuaded them from signing more afterwards on their way to more CL and league glory.

He's just too short for PL, that's my main issue.
Burnley were the last team that just hoof it up to the big man up front

Almost all teams now play more technical and keep the ball on the ground

I dont think the whole of Europe wants him, which is why you can snap him up for 30-35m rather than (at least) double that amount. ;)

I offer you a guarantee until the front door. :D

It amazes me that football fans still think there are any guarantees in transfers. Look at how many 'made' players flopped. Every transfer is a risk. As for Timber, with Ten Hag he could definitely be a success. His lack of physique may or may not be an issue. Can't really decide that one.

Though I never thought Maguire was the rigfht signing and confess to seeing little of Timber, that is a strange analogy.

You say Tuimber ris still very young (and pretty inexperienced time wise for sure0....Maguire (supposedly at least) was a proven player in the championshipm with Sheffield United, at at Hull and with his first major step up at Leicester he ahd a very good season as well at establishing himself for England. I would say under your analogy Maguire should have cost more. Maguire was a £50m signing with premiership fees, I think Timber will be around £40M....and yes maybe naive and belligerent to say since I had neve even noticed or heard of him until about two months ago

That would be settling for average. Thats worse than either extreme, probably….. :wenger:

The point with Timber is his other attributes more than balance out his height. I suspect he would be bought to cover RB anyway.
I don't think asking for a centre back to be at least 6ft is the same as jamming the team with as many big blokes as you can. This isn't the no win situation you're describing.

Like I said, there's a middle ground. Height is on the whole necessary at CB and goalkeeper. It just is.

So why do Klopp and Pep have big lads at the back?
Well it’s just obvious probability. Perhaps they do not go out of their way to have big lads, but most top central defenders happen to be big. Pep has happily played Fernandinho at centre half instead of actual centre halves, and also literally signed a short, Dutch centre half himself only last year.

Hope this signing happens but if it does we need to be patient with an 20 year old coming to the premier league even at ajax he had inconsistent matches

There's complete dross in Dutch leage after 3,4 teams. Championship on the other hand is extremely competitive with 10 to 12 very good teams.
So is the Norwegian 4th divison, so competive, even better than the Championship. We should get players from that league.
And you think that Messi, Neymar and Mbappe are trash because the french league isn't even remotely competitive?

Love your logic
