I hope someone at United has let slip Frankie wont be made to play alongside McTom!

That should help quicken the deal up.

Some quotes from an interview today in the Dutch media Voetbal International....

About his position in Barcelona
"From the moment I came to Barcelona, there was debate about my ideal position. For me its simple: Im a player who needs to be involved in the game. In need to be in the game, to say. Touch the ball often. I need to have the feeling that I can be dominant in the game. Im not a player who touched the ball five or ten times per half. Thats not where my strenghts are. Ofcourse I talk about that with the coach. Its hard to talk to the media about the details, so I wont"

About his position at the Dutch national team (recently switched from four in the back to five in the back):
"The way we play is a little different, but for me nothing has changed much. My role is that Im always on of the first people to get the ball in midfield. Unlike at Barcelona"

They are quotes from different parts of the interview, but it looks like he really suggest here that he also feels that he isnt used to his full strenghts at Barcelona (where Busquets is still always the first person in midfield to get the ball, where Frenkie often higher on th pitch during build up.)

More quotes about United:
"Whether Erik Ten Hag already called me? Ha, I used to react to these kinds of rumours, but I dont anymore. I also wouldnt do that if it was another club or coach. Because Ten Hag is my old coach the link with United is quickly made. We had a very successful last season at Ajax and we have a good relationship. So that gets you rumours. I prefer to stay at Barcelona. Ofcourse media also reaches me, but I cant look into the finances of the club. I havent talked about it to the club. If there was really something going on, I think I would have heared so. "

If that’s directly from his own mouth, it sounds like this transfer is nothing more than press and ITK made-up nonsense.

Not sure of the source

Radio Marca guy according to Twitter, so part of Real's media team. Also it doesn't say where this Real Madrid journalists said the stuff quoted, nor can you find anything on his timeline.

But all of that is irrelevant - source is Tier 1, Full Moon, the works

This will happen. He is doing what any professional would do. Keep quiet and let the people who make the deals make the deals. I like him coming in and he absolutely will make us better. Let’s go!!!

Yet we constantly hear about targets being linked to them. If they are in such a mess, they would sell off and not replace.
That’s because they need to balance it out. They want to improve as a team (signing Lewandowski) and also trying to fix the financial problem. Best way is sell their highest value assets that on high wages and replace them with someone on less wages and even free signings. Example? They sell FDJ and replace him with Kessie free signing and has 100k p.w less wages than FDJ. At the same time keeping the likes of Pedri and Gavi who are on lower wages with higher ceiling than FDJ. Basically, FDJ is sacrificed for part of their financial issue’s solution because they already have Pedri and Gavi for their future team to build on.

If they are just selling and selling without replacing or improving then they could be too far behind Real Madrid or even potentially might miss the top 4.

I personally believe we should stop going after him if we are. Barcelona is making a big move going for Lewandowski, and they wouldn't make that move if their finances were that terrible so I expect them to keep De Jong.

We should be putting our effort into Fabian Ruiz. Napoli's president said he asked for 15 days to decide his future. We should be on the phone with his agent every day; highly underrated player.

Sounds like he is definitely going to be leaving whether he likes it or not…..Barca just need the money. They cannot even register their new players at the moment. They have got to do a lot of creative accounting this month.

Where he ends up though……I’d like to think that if nothing very positive been sorted in the background then we will have moved on.

It’s very quiet from us which I take as a positive.

Can we stop trying to buy players that doesnt want to come to us.
I really dont understand this narrative. Why we don't have to buy players who are not interested leaving their current clubs?
Mbappe is a Madrid fan but that did not stop him from making him reject them at the very last minute.
At the end of the day, footballers are professionals and I don't think they would mind moving between the clubs as long as they get what they need.

And its not like players around the world are queuing up to join us. Our management is a joke, players are in down spirits. We need to get quality players in any way possible. And in ETH, we have a manager who worked with the player and probably the player likes working under him too.

Frenkie de-jemba-jemba anyone? Or is it still too soon to mention that name? :nono:

Seriously, this one seems, to me, to be fading

Erm, Mbappe only turned Real down because PSG offered him a ridiculous amount of money. Not sure that's a good example. The only way I can see him moving is if Barca tell him "Sorry mate but if we don't sell you now FFP will tear us a new one". And even then he could choose to stay. If he does leave I'm sure we'd be amongst the front runners because we've Ten Hag, a shite midfield so he's basically guaranteed to play and we can afford him. But it doesn't look like moving is his preferred scenario does it?

Think we should move on if he is not interested. We need the RIGHT players who want to play for the badge.

That’s true for someone like city or liverpool playing steady, winning things.. in good over all shape. Players can join there and instantly feel apart of something, a winning formula if you like.

with us at the moment our biggest obstacle and hurdle has been mentality over talent, so we are in need of mentality monsters. We need some aggression and players that are up for the battle. Players that want to get this club competing again. It’s needed not just on the pitch but in the dressing room too.

no point signing him if he’s pinning over Barcelona. The fact is though, we don’t know the whole truth and it could all just be what they are supposed to say. He might really like the challenge and want to come, the media know nothing half the time. We have a Dutch manager who knows him well, a Dutch assistant and another who also has Dutch ties. We have Donny and it’s looking like we’ll sign more Ajax players along the way. That could appeal to him.
