Real Madrid, despite all their money and reputation and CL winner thing, have not been able to sign Tchouameni yet, even after months of transfer tweets!

Just saying.

Weird thread. Was the Kroos thread like this? Do people not remember it being good to have an elite ball playing midfielder like Scholes around?

Just make up your damn mind man. They don't want you, we're desperate for you. It should be obvious by now what the right choice is.

Wasn't Kroos willing to come though? It was just Van Dinosaur that didn't rate him and wanted Schweinsteiger instead. So really not comparable IMO.
There just isn't a replacement for De Jong that I can see out there. Someone that good on the ball in midfield.

FFS this board might have new people but it hasn't changed 1 bit. Gonna spend all summer trying to get a fee down for a guy that is already throwing his toys out the pram because he doesn't want to come here.
It's definitely good business practice to pay the first price someone offers in a firesale situation

This will be a hard one to get done and won't be surprised if there's no updates until the end of the month.

If we were in a CL spot, it would be so much easier to convince FDJ to join. Many fans understate it but our reputation outside the PL is in the gutter right now, we are seen as a failing club that offers huge wages, that's Manchester United in a nutshell. ETH being here is a positive but it's a massive risk for him to come here. I mean look at Ronaldo, for the first time in his career he won't be playing CL football and that happens with us.

He can easily look at Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho before joining United and after as exhibit A of why he should avoid the club. The only reason its even a discussion is because of ETH so I imagine us needing to sweet talk him all month, possibly even further.

According to BBC Sport, research group CIES Football Observatory have the transfer value of Frankie at £96.1m
That's in Sterling, not Euros.

Mind you, they have Scott McTominey valued at €67.5m (£57.6m) !!!

Leeds will come into about 50m and will need a midfielder. McTominey should be attractive for them and at the right price, 50m.

He's on international duty til after the 14th, and the windows hasn't been open for a week. I don't think it's time to be panicking.

I think it's more worrying that we don't seem to be progressing anything else at the same time, although for all we know that might not be the case.
Was it not already reported Timbers agent was at United HQ and Athletic reported were looking at Nunez?

So now you know that was all bullshit.
Moving forward I hope you realise that 95% of the crap you are going to read will be the same.

The "looking into" thing we get for loads of players - doesn't seem very advanced. I haven't really read anything about Timber besides snippets from tabloids. I thought the agency just happened to have people in London for a bit - them being at United HQ would be news to me.

I could be way off on all that, of course, since noone can follow every bit of news across it all and I don't know what way we're going. It could well be I'm just biased by Timber and Nunez not automatically making much sense to me this summer.

There's also the worry of us having previously only being able to work on one deal at a time - the pain of the old regime is still fresh!

In any case, I'm hoping those 2 weeks between internationals ending and our preseason starting will be where the wheels really start to turn on multiple fronts. It'd be great to have most of our summer signings in the building on day 1.

The first sentence of the second paragraph sums up why things are moving slow

I keep seeing he doesn’t want to come here which I think is ridiculous. Did Aguero, Toure and Silva dream of going to City? If you have the right manager and vision going forward the player will buy in. If he does end up coming after being convinced, he still wants to be here because he can obviously stay and see out his contract whether Barcelona like it or not because they can’t afford to terminate the agreement.

Or Mason at 82million!! Our only player on that list and yet one hasn't kicked a ball et al in anger for the past six months. Its almost a meaningless survey.

Or the Vidal thread, that was endless and dramatic.
I think it's the case with most of our priority signings nearly every season.

We have ZERO control of the situation; just learning from leaks or rumours only creates initially desire then later anxiety.

As methodical as ETH is, I am sure he has instructed the team to work on his Plan B and Cs already for the 3 critical positions for this summer.
