He is probably the player i would sign to fix that. If we had signed striker without investing in midfield then i would worry. This is why i didnt mind United trying to convince him from the start
FDJ might be amazing, im not commenting on his ability at all. I am just worried we will sign him + a winger + maybe a CB and think we're good

Since when are they reliable ?
"Talksport sources" = reliable
Everything else that isn't "Talksport sources" = indykaila level

They broke the Ronaldo story when the whole world was certain he had signed for City:

I have been very sceptical about this transfer, mainly due to the players desire to remain at the club "of his dreams", but he would be a fantastic signing, if we can pull it off, no doubt about that.

The main worry, is that he will be the only midfield singing.

We need a defensive midfielder, and I hope we can go out and get somebody like Sangare, to play alongside him.

Ronaldo, Grealish, Messi leaving, Super League, Woodward Leaving

"Talksport Sources" are borderline direct club briefs. Whomever they got behind the scenes is well connected.

Yeah which is fine if FDJ is one of three or four...but my expectations are still low based on previous windows.

For me, we desperately need a CF and a second CM this window, or its an impossible job for ETH. Whatever budget we have needs to ensure it covers all of those acquisitions
Not necessarily, he can adapt and plan for his squad in a better way instead of just going for fillers.

We need 2 CM, I think everyone agrees with that, budget shouldn't be the problem considering there were so many free transfers available. Any CM we sign should be clear upgrade on Fred.

there was big rumour Lee Grant was a United source for them, seeing as he was a regular guest.

no one will think that. But the glazers are only going to release a certain budget in this window and it will take 2-3 windows to fix every dept of our team.

I've seen a lot of posts on reddit about them poaching a huge pool of Sky News/Sports workers and that's why we never get a Romano/Orny/Stone "main person". It's like a weird collective of news folk we've never heard about which are "Talksport sources". They are the serious side and then they've got their shit clickbait side.

But how and why?
Thats the thing, no one has a clue, but there is the absolute trash "Talksport" and then there is "Talksport sources" and for some bizarre reason, they are well connected and just nothing like the dumpster fire that is "Talksport"

Talksport have long been referencing Sky Sports stories within their own news roundups and breaking news rumours as well so I don't doubt it at all.

It’s the benefit of having so many ex players on their station. Agbonghlor (how the feck do you spell that) is a presenter now and he 100 percent was the source for Grealish.
I’m sure they get bonuses on the side for a bit of news.

It's a bit arrogant from Manchester United to brief Laurie Whitwell (of all people!) they think they have got De Jong in the bag. And the player wants to come. Let's see if Barcelona or De Jong give United the slap down. Because all United fans on Twitter and social media are going crazy and celebrating now think we are signing De Jong now.. Barcelona or De Jong will be asked about this surely as it's a massive update.

We will know very quickly if this is doable. But it'll be embarrassing if United spend all summer on this deal and don't sign him. Because they have briefed Laurie Whitwell they are focused on De Jong they better get it over the line otherwise the anger fron the fans WILL overspill. After coming off our worst Premier League season ever and other teams have already signed players.. the fanbase are desperate for some positivity.. a signing ANY signing even a right-back or Eriksen

United better get this done now. Or they risk a toxic atmosphere at Old Trafford from the first match.

I think we are going to do this one and he will be our first signing. He's the player we need the most too. I can see us bringing in Frankie, Antony, another more defensive midfielder, a defender and a free transfer (hopefully Erkisson). I'd be happy with that window. Can't change the world in one summer.

But if you stutter for few pounds, then there is good chances others clubs can swoop for him.So i dont think Utd can afford to take that chances.

Barca want him to leave as they are desperate for the money.
This should raise alarm bells even though nobody could suggest he isnt better than Fred, McTom or Van De Beek when hes played for United.

It obviously suggests he's nowhere near worth what they are paying for him and paid for him. If he was he would be ensuring Barcelona's success and making them money playing for them

Don’t think so. They got rid of Messi last summer because of money trouble, and he was definitely worth the money. It’s simply because he’s the only player they have who’ll fetch a big fee and won’t cost big money to replace.

In a world where Tchouameni and Nunez are worth €100m, De Jong is worth €60-80m.

He's better and more proven than either of those. Barca have just been using him wrong.

They basically let Messi go last season for the same reasons?

You don't seriously believe this? Especially when Barcelona need the money NOW.

No it doesn’t. It’s simple economics. He is worth the most and on the highest wages so it makes most business sense to offload him, especially as they have promising youth graduates (who cost nothing by comparison) in his position. Also frees up wages for new signings to comply with FFP.

Stop with the suspicion and misery. This guy is the real deal and will revolutionise our game. Board the hype train!

Barca's debt deadline, Xavi's indifference to him, all plays well into our hands. When you're running around telling everyone you need half a billion by end of month and we are willing to buy "the old jacket you don't wear much anymore", usually a good price can be found,

Again, alarm bells. If he doesnt cost a huge amount to replace then he's not worth a huge amount.

Messi was the best player in the world, on wages that reflected that and is past his best at 33 when he left. Despite that they tried to keep him to the last minute and find out a way to pay his wages. He's also talked about going back there, maybe the De Jong sale will make the wages available for that to happen

Instead they're pushing De Jong out the door as fast as they can

Again he will without doubt improve us. But he's done the big transfer huge wages thing with Barcelona and this is the result of it, so if we do the same thing It'll probably be Pogba again which was a similar thing for us. Huge money, not a good return at all

I think you've got a good point and there's some big red flags regarding this transfer.

Not really how it works though? Sneijder, Robben, Sanchez, Fabregas, Ozil, Ibra, etc all moved on from Barca/Madrid for one reason or another and were world class at their other clubs. Sometimes the fit just isn't the best. Frenkie de Jong, as discussed before, is best when used as the key player for the build up. Barcelona use Busquets as that, and Pedri as the key for the midfield control. De Jong by all accounts was very good in his first 2 years, but this year with Xavi just didn't fit in as well (but his own personal performances from what I read are consistent and decent, even if it's not his natural role). And we look at what we need, and that suits Frenkie perfectly. We need someone who will start the build up and be that deep midfield playmaker. Barcelona need an advanced playmaker. We tried to shoehorn Pogba as the deep playmaker when he likes being the advanced, so it's the opposite of that situation.
