We are in a game on chicken and I hope we don’t blink first. News is coming out every day on how bad of financial shape barca are in; let’s not let them strong arm us. We do have time before pre-season kicks off and we can work on some of our other targets. De Jong knows barca are willing to sell him so I don’t see how he can stay after all this transfer saga going on. Let’s wait and keep the pressure on barca.

Just a typical transfer dance from all parties.

Frankie declaring his repeated loyalty to Barca so he will not lose his fan base and credibility in Catalonia- to avoid being seen as a traitor or something like that .

Barcelona playing hardball for a few weeks to appease their own fans that they tried their best to keep him and justify the sale as a financial necessity

United starting with a low offer as a gesture to show their own fans that they won’t be bullied by Barcelona’s demands and then dragging it out as a theatrical spectacle for it to be revealed as a superstar signing.

The wages he will be on I think he can afford his own security.
That's always a head-scratcher for me. For all the money they make, surely they can afford a 24hrs round the clock team and use it as a tax write-off, directly or indirectly.

Seems like they are quite far apart with Barca's valuation and yeah we can't pay 70 or 80 million in one go, its more than half the budget, you could argue it shouldn't be that small but it is what it is.

And that's the thing this sale is an economic one and both clubs are desperate it doesn't make sense to lowball them they either need to pay up or move on to an alternate target, settling in to the club during preseason is just too important. If they moved on tomorrow you would say fair enough but we all know they won't this will drag on and Barca aren't stupid they also know this club has paid the extortionate demands before for truly dreadful players after stringing along deals for months.

Honestly i can't be the only one who is starting to feel all this familiarity, its especially disappointing after it looked like the club was laying tracks for a legitimate plan with RR's arrival and subsequent movement upstairs. FDJ doesn't even want to be here and working on one deal at a time at a snails pace is the MO of Matt Judge.

Well you can really like a player but feel he is being over valued so that is when you try to lower the price and if the owner or current employer still wants to have dialogue then obviously it is worth dealing with: The owner can always set their minimum price and if we don't fancy it I am sure we will walk away in the same way we initially did with Sancho.

I can't help noticing the incredible improvement this new Manchester United lead by Murtough had done. We used to be so slow in transfers as we spent weeks monitoring, exploring and investigating transfers only to sign the obvious players. That all seem changing once Woodward left and we've put Woodward's man Murtough at the wheel.

It's impressive how you consistently find new ways to whinge about the same thing

That's a praise mate. Can't you notice the changes? They are impressive. Maybe its time we sack the tea lady as well. Surely she acting as an obstacle to Murtough-Fletcher's brilliance.

I think this is what many posters don't seem to acknowledge in their posts about Barca being in financial distress and therefore should be willing to sell FDJ at a loss or at least at the price we want. The sale of FDJ will not fix their issues, their CFO said they needed over 500m Euros this summer. That can only happen with the sale of 49.9% of Barca Studios (like MUTV) and 25% of their future TV revenues. The Socios have an annual meeting this week to approve these deals, and if approved will not only fix their short term issues, allow them to register Kessie and Christensen but also provide them with the capital to get Lewandowski...all without selling FDJ. They simply don't need to sell FDJ.
Actually they do. Currently they can only use 33% of any revenues generated. If they activate all these "economic levers" they keep going on about, that takes them to a 1:1 ratio of revenue and expenditure meaning they would still have to get some players off the wage bill to register new players they can register players like Kessie and Christensen. To sign new players though still have to sell to generate funds. There is no way they are signing Lewandowski without selling Dejong for example.

Well let's see, how big the pressure will be after Laporta and his board will activate one of the three financial levers (blm, studios,tv rights). Dont think barca is desperate to sell after this. Yes, of course they want to get rid of Bartomeus criminal contracts, but with the selling of just one asset, they will have enough breathing room for the next season.

Netherlands last nations league match today.

Hopefully more comes out after today on him and Timber.

Two players that wanted to leave the clubs. Two players that you would say that have been over paid for.

If we offered Barca 100m, the deal would be done.
So like I said nothing to do with internationals

Nunez was dropped by Uruguay to get the deal done, a quick scan of the Tchouameni thread has the deal "agreed" by journo sources on the eve of the first French game and announced by the 11th.

Considering De Jong also doesn't want to leave Barca, it's very logical to suggest that the internationals are slowing it down. He has no idea if Barca can get the cash, he doesn't want to leave, and likely doesn't want to get dropped by LVG.
The fact he doesn’t want to leave is what is slowing it down

It won’t be announced before the Netherlands last game out of respect and wishes of LVG - he doesn’t want any distraction for his WC preparations.

I am sure that Utd and Barca have agreed on the deal structure. Also for both teams it helps with their additional signings to get things in line as well. There will be a domino effect on this one: FDJ to Utd, Lewa from Bayern to Barca, Mane from Liverpool to Bayern.

Too many people panicking just because Liverpool have signed Nunez and think we are doing nothing, in the past you’d be right to be pessimistic but we have a new team doing this. Have faith.

I wonder how much we can realistically save by dragging this out. 5M tops?

I guess it's worth it for a few weeks of effort.

Depends on what they are asking... If they want 90-100 mil, surely we want to save more than 5.

The biggest hurdle probably is the straight cash payment. Barcelona will surely want most of it now, while it is in our interest to structure the deal in several installments and various bonuses.

Yep, borrowing costs are pretty high these days too, no more free money. I think we should play hardball on this one, but focus on other positions while we wait.

Oh sweet naivety. I love it!
He'll need a 2 week holiday first!
Exactly. And after that he'll be part of Barcelona's pre-season that starts on July the 4th so no time for transfers during that period either! I mean we really don't want to interrupt Barca's pre season planning. So it's only logical that we wait until next year.

Yeah as Rake posted, be very much like when I left my job and serving my notice period - I ain't doing shit.
Sources state he is serving his notice period and still involved. Whether that is just talk though, none of us will know.

He's certainly not 'gone' yet though.
