Hate him or not but he has said the truth. No club has a bottomless pit of cash to keep burning through with no return on investment. We have wasted so much money on utter crap over the last 8 years it is fairly easy to see why any owner would be reluctant to keep opening up the purse.

We can go on and on about how terrible the Glazers are but it doesn't justify the zero return the club has seen on the money that has been spent since 2013.
If one club over the past 15-17 years could have built a new stadium without getting into huge debt. Either saved up the cash or mortgaged & paid off already while still spending £100m-£150m a year it’s Man Utd. So in a way what Arnold is saying is not true, United now would have to sacrifice on transfer budget for several years like Spurs & Arsenal did only because of the debt the Glazers put on us.

On the flip side he also right the glazers have given £900m post SAF and it’s not their fault that money has been wasted. But then as owners after 3-5 years they should have realised it wasn’t working and addressed the people responsible who are above the managers.

have to say Arnold comes across really well here.

He’s not making silly promises or disneyland BS, just telling it how it is.

I do feel Woodward was a big part of the problem and now he’s gone hopefully he can get us back on track

I don't think it's right what they did but I wouldn't even put the two in the same league mate.

Secretly filming the new CEO and putting us in a disgraceful debt and position through their own sheer ineptitude is not even remotely similar.
With their stated aim being to harm the club through attacking sponsors then, yes, they are as bad as each other.

And you try reading. The guy was going on about losing the sponsorship for the training kits which happened after the Super League protests.

Now unless Arnold lives at OT, those certainly were not at his house.
The point still remains.
Why so desperate for a row all time?

I’m sure some of them do. It’s like this place where you had posters delighted we’d lost a 200m training kit deal and then were moaning about no January signings 6 months later. Anyway, this is the account from one of them arranging the protest outside his house.

Well reading all those tweets this guy comes across as a proper bellend.

Clearly he's gonna find negatives in everything.....he must be a member of the caf so

Our fanbase is weak af, time to grow up and bring some positivity back to the club. There’s no quick fix, we are who we are at this point, and it’s time for the players, management, and fans to grind and climb their way out of this hole we are in. Crying and bitching like a bunch of spoiled twats ain’t gonna do a damn thing to help.

Gone up in my estimation after that to be fair
Yeah, he could've just called the filth and had em moved on I suppose. Instead he's faced em.
Gotta respect that.
The fans are just coming across as bellends by slagging him off for it really.

Certainly doesn't help ease the fears about us being in total disarray. Another very difficult season ahead.

The only way to force real change is to harm the club unfortunately.

And no they aren't as bad as each other. No Utd fan has done anywhere near the damage that the Glazers have done to this club. Don't be so ridiculous

Is the guy who posted that Twitter thread, the same fella who posted the video?

He seems to have gone into this meeting with his mind made up and nothing Arnold could've said was going to make a difference.

If it is him, these are obviously the video bits he thinks make Arnold look bad, whereas I'd say most of us are pretty impressed with his comments.

I'm torn. On one hand, it's a totally scummy act to exploit someone's trust and secretly film them. On the other hand it's the least varnished, most sensible, message I've heard from the club in years. I think my enjoyment outweighs the negatives, tbh.

There is no spoon.
Fair fecks to Arnold showing up and having a chat about it all in person, gave a decent account of the situation too, however filming it & planning to turn up at the poor bastards house, get a grip you fecking idiots, this does nothing imo but show the "fans" in the pub to be total fecking cretins.

We are a massively supported club - the biggest globally in some reports. Therefore we are going to have all sorts - a bit like the trolling on SM - it’s only the negative twats that noise up relentlessly - the silent majority give a shit and want better but generally keep quiet- we all want things to improve after a decade of decline.

Our new CEO coming out and talking to some of these doomsayers - head on - trying to get a message across can only be a positive thing. I think even the Glazers have realised that after the ESL debacle the ownership need to be closer to the fans on the ground.

You cant stop the negativity but maybe this was a PR exercise to calm down the rhetoric about us not yet signing a player. While we haven’t yet officially done that, surely everyone must be in agreement that things are at least looking like they are going to be heading in the right direction. Arnold and Murtogh are well aware of how much they are in the headlights this summer and I’m sure that they will deliver - it’s just a case that for some it’s never fast enough!

Most surprising thing to come out this thread is the amount of people that seem to think our negotiation strategy consists entirely of us pretending we don't have any money

I'm under the impression he's full of shite.
We all remember that tweet Woodward coming back from Australia to conduct transfer business, to then sign Fellaini on deadline day 6 weeks later.
These guys are charlatans

No-one should have the right to protest outside someone's house. Never mind the fact this is about how a football club is run. These people are pathetic losers.

Good on Richard Arnold. Better than anything Woodward has done with regards to connecting with fans. However, recording a man without consent in itself is already strange, but recording a man talking about things that could threaten his highly lucrative job status and who’s only doing it to satiate people like you in the first place is highly odd, if not illegal. If the people who did it wanted proof of the conversation, take a picture with him.

Fully agree with the first part, but less so about the second part. It’s not right to just dismiss football as something unimportant, even if there are more important things in the grand scheme of things. No problem with protesting against football matters. Did you see any issue with the nationwide protests against the ESL last year?

Scripted or not, good for him to do this and help stabilize the ship.

It’s 100% intentional by Glazers, which is fine and expected. They have to react to the fan base, they actually do understand their position with us.

Ed stepping aside has allowed this approach to happen. Scripted. Let’s not pretend that Ed and “Arnie” are not friends and “Glazer men”, because they are. It’s almost good cop / bad cop in a way.

I have faith what he said is true, he’s a straightforward individual and will create change.

I’m not going all “ITK” because I couldn’t careless about that. But I do have history and context here. A Mod can reach out on that or delete this…

The truth is....our fans are expectedly impatient, especially given the season we just had. It's June. The window closed at the end of August. From my memory, outside of big deals that had been planned during previous seasons, like Haaland's was for City. Signings usually occur in July and August, not June.

In addition, unlike City and Liverpool, we aren't looking to add squad depth we are literally looking to rebuild with a plan to do it with strategy. This means we have an eye on specific pieces. We can't take risks with young players playing in South America or young talent in general this window ( like we did with Amad and Pellestri). We need to actually get ready to contribute talent, players who may be more difficult to buy.

This means fans should not get annoyed at missing out on players like Bissouma, as that was never the plan. They should not be annoyed at "missing" out on Nunez, as clearly that wasn't in the budget and were just baseless media driven reports. This window, we need to focus on specific positions and players who fit Ten Haag's style. We also need to incorporate some of our star players into the team too.

What is also pretty clear is that FDJ would like be our most expensive summer signing and the one that would be hardest to get. We have players like De Gea Varane Shaw Bruno Sancho Rashford and Ronaldo here. We also have Maguire Van De Beek Lindelof Fred and even Martial. Who have all proven at some point they can perform in a good team. We have youngsters like Amad , Hannibal, Fernandez, Garner and Garnacho coming through as well. So we are not a completely horrendous team. We are a team with weakness in certain key positions, who have been poorly coached over the last few years. We need to be a patient with our football leadership management and see what they can do.

Was this guy even there?

Go through his tweets. He's a tribal weirdo.

I can understand anyone being frustrated/completely disillusioned with the Glazers. But there is an abnormality to the way this fully grown adult handles it.

Im gonna say it, I don’t agree with going to peoples houses to protest, scare wives, kids or graffiti walls. It’s a thuggish thing to do

fair play to RA for heading them off at the pass.

I doubt it would affect him much tbh. We know Arnold is leaving the football side to Murtough so it will be him that ETH is in contact with. Nice try at talking the club down however.

Editing my own posts.
Summary from someone who was there:

Reads a bit like he knows he’s fecked it and inadvertently made Arnold look pretty good and reasonable to a lot of fans (and certainly neutrals) which he didn’t want to do, so he’s had a bit of a rant to try and claw back the narrative.

RA almost certainly fed them a PR line, but they kinda walked into it.

This fellas synopsis is a bit different. The fans there can’t even agree. One says Richie was “scripted”, the other says he was “honest and open”.
It’s the guy in the shorts who was recording. What a twat , he even looks like a twat
