No, he had many offers to leave last summer, as initially stated by @Cassidy, and was convinced by Ole to stay after he promised him game time. One of the many reasons for dressing room unrest last year.

Why would Jesse even buy that after barely being able to get a game for a year and a half and then Ronaldo and Sancho were added to that same squad that he already couldn't get into?
Why didn't Lingard push for a permanent move on the 1st of January 2022?
When you look past quotes and soundbites Solskjaer didn't treat Lingard as a player he valued as an important member of the squad and wanted to keep. And Lingard didn't behave like a player who was desperate to move away for more minutes.
That's how much stock I put into that Solskjaer quote you linked to. He was trying to bump up Lingard's sale price, it's why he was loaned out after all just like Sanchez.

8 months before the end of his contract was a bit too late to do that. Actually selling him would have been better.

It took us two windows to get him and as a result of failing to get him in the first wi dow we ended up spunking like 50 million on two alternative right wingers that have barely played 10 games in two seasons between them.
And sancho and varane who are the typical high profile names that we tend to target have hardly looked like great business like most of the high profile players that have chased after post fergie

When did his contract expire? I thought it was in June and the article is from November.
The guy wants to stay at his club to be sure he can go to the WC. I don't see any problem with that. We can get him in 6 months or a year.

All I've heard so far is sending some of them out on loan with some having the possibility to be sold for a certain amount. If we loan an older player to a club I'd want to see them having to buy them if some criterias are met

I think it's just guesswork by Fabrizio. Ducker who is more reliable for us has said on a few occasions that our priority is two midfielders and a striker. Followed by right back and center back if we can get funds from player sales
I think why it's only De Jong we are chasing at the moment is because Ten Hag sees midfield as the weakest area and he would prefer that our budget be spent on midfield than any other position. Basically after we get De Jong, we'd go for another midfielder and that would take all or almost all our budget

If that quote is from November then fair enough mate, I thought it was from August but he was at the same thing trying to retain Lingard's value. Circa November 2021 he was still barely playing him so he definitely wasn't in Solskjaer's plans.
Well apparently we wanted £25-30m for him last summer with 12 months left on his contract so from that perspective £10m isn't crazy. Especially considering there would be no option to buy as his contract would have ended shortly after the loan. This is where I disagree with you and put more of the blame on the club and Ole. They should have privately told him outright last summer that he wasn’t in their plans ( which he wasn’t) and put him on the market for a reasonable price. That’s not what they did. Whether you think he was happy to sit on the bench or not, he wouldn’t have had much choice.
Yet again we overpriced and end up with diddly.
The summer cycle is well underway of us being linked with everyone, signing little to no one, and our rivals signing players wilfully, early and efficiently.
