Who potentially replaces Ronaldo?

False 9 makes his own space, that’s the reason for a false 9. Drop deep to out number the midfield and create space for the wide forwards to manoeuvre into. If anything a traditional 10 has less space than a false 9.
It’s basically Bruno behind two forwards anyway if the wide two tuck in a bit.
not buying it mate, this team can barely press or play through midfield, rather keep it simple with a proper 9 rather than Bruno wandering and Fred or someone ending up as furthest man

It'd be so United to bring Neymar in now wouldn't it.

How good is that De Katelere guy in Belgium
Potential to be good, but not 25 goals a season good right now. He has 14 goals in 39 matches in the Belgian league. He'd be a great backup option, but nowhere near good enough to be the main man.

Very good, but a year or 2 early I'd say. He'll become some player one day, but the step up from Belgium (and CL football to be fair) to Utd is massive.

I'd love to take the gamble as I really like him, but I feel its too early.

Yeah, being the replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo seems like far too much pressure to put on the lad.

Also.....
What about who replace Greenwood
Who replaces Fred/McT
Who replaces AWB/Dalot

Hard to see us having a hope of doing anything last year.

We don't have the ambition to fix this.

Scamacca would be a good replacement for me but I'm quite confident that we won't sign anyone else after we've wrapped up Malacia, De Jong and Martinez.

Supposedly interested in Ronaldo. Maybe a swap, naturally we'd likely still have to pay a certain fee.

Also, Ronaldo would want to go to Naples.
Napoli are the Italian answer of Spurs. They are very tough to deal with

6 league goals last season. Workrate isn't enough. We need a proper goalscorer
I agree that his numbers isn't all that but everytime I watched him last season he was a handful for the oppo's defence, pressing and running at them like a madman. Also I have hope that ETH has a fluid system which doesn't depend on one set goalscorer.

I can see a swap with Neymar happening if the owners of PSG fancy having Ronaldo and Messi on the same team. It would be the ultimate FM dream albeit a few years too late.

Yet I see Depay or Toney mentioned and nobody bats an eyelid… funny!

It’s a game of opinions though.
Zaha isn't a forward while Toney is a brilliant holding CF. Depay too is more comfortable through middle. So it's not that funny. Zaha definitely can be considered for our left option but definitely not as our striker.

That would be even more insane than us not signing a dm last season. We'll sign someone for sure. They can't be that deluded. I just hope it will be somebody that's actually good enough

If Ronaldo leaves and the current rumored players come in (Eriksen, de Jong, Martinez), i would guess we do this:

Sancho Rashford Bruno
Frenkie Eriksen McTominay
Malacia Martinez Varane Dalot
De Gea

Garnacho Martial Elanga
Van de Beek Fred Hannibal
Shaw Maguire Lindelof AWB
Heaton

My guess is Bruno gets placed wide and we use Rashford/Martial through the middle and being first backup for front 3. Garnacho and Elanga would get a lot more game time. It probably suits Ten Hag more to pick from these rather than shoe horn Ronaldo, we'd press better as a team and probably play better, but the goals would obviously need to be spread out and there really isn't enough goals in that group.

Basically .. let's hope Ten Hag can work magic with Martial

Bruno as a false 9 and we get Antony, or Dybala on a free wouldn't seem out of the question. Lautaro Martinez would probably suit Ten Hag but he seems to want to stay at Inter.

Regardless of who replaces him, there will always be an option. Every year there's some bright new thing that pops up on the scene (nunes, vlahovic, diaz) normally because we tend to not pay attention too much to teams outside the premier league we dont realise that there are plenty of potential talents out there. Its why I'm not too fussed about ronaldo leaving, the ronaldo thats leaving isnt an irreplaceable player, I would say he's a player that isn't that difficult to replace. Its just about finding the right profile of striker to come in and fit EtH's style of play.

I don’t think we’ll get a proper solution to this now. Probably some journeyman or a Cavani type free transfer will come in, if anybody.

This is a disaster for us. All the idiots saying they’re happy he’s leaving will look real smart when we get someone in who scores 10-12 goals while Halaand bangs them in for fun at the other side of town.

Right now we realistically can’t get anyone near good enough. We need him to stay a year and have a proper replacement lined up.

The rumour was that Ten Hag wanted a versatile forward and he has played as a striker many times…

Plus last season, he out scores both Depay and Toney. I’m not gonna champion the idea because I’d much rather us spend the money and get someone better. I just find the sneering at him amusing given some of the other suggestions.
