So we have known he wants to leave but have done nothing to explore replacements and now everyone knows we will have our pants pulled down if we want to buy anyone

Will this club ever learn

This is all pointing to chelsea, we heard of the rumours of his agent talking to Chelsea and they are in need of a striker and can offer ronaldo not only champions league football but genuine opportunity to win trophies with tuchel's record of reaching cup finals since joining.

No way he would join Barca as I think he genuinely doesn't want to mess up his legacy at madrid where as I don't he really cares a great deal about united but just fergie. I can't imagine Bayern will entertain him and mbappe will veto ronaldo to psg as his selfishness will do mbappe no favours, that leaves Italy basically as the alternative destination but with juve and inter would not viable options.

The really piss taking thing is he doubts united's ability to compete at the top but was self entitled prat that told the club not to hire serial winner Antonio conte.

No way he goes to Chelsea. He'll not find us that easy to play.
Has to be abroad.

I'm starting to wonder if we'll actually keep him actually, but we'll need to do something positive transfers wise soon!

Legacy of Woodward and his choices you mean.
No, Wreck-It Ralf being utter shite and not getting anything out of the team, which he was brought in to do. If we got Champions League football, we would not be in this position.

Like the previous manager who also spent 300 millions and didn't win a cup? We are a rotten club. Nothing to do with Ralf. For 8 years now, we have become from League winners to "maybe if we make it top 4, Ronaldo will stay". The problem isnt Ronaldo leaving or us not being in the CL. The problem is that we knew that sooner or later he would leave, and we are again unprepared and that we don't have aspirations. And the problem is also that for this mess, a result of mismanagement and incompetence, we are now blaming the last guy who was left alone with an unprofessional squad.

Think you should redirect your blame from the guy that was here for a few months to the CEO that burned this club to the ground with his decisions and hires for most of a decade and that includes hiring the chap whose got your knickers wound up.

Also, recognizing that the same CEO is now gone, I'm hoping for a better reaction to the developments. Stay hopeful

This has already been done to death so not dragging it up again, especially in this thread. We still had every chance of a top 4 spot until that fraud blew it but we have ten Hag now having to clean up that mess. So time to look forward.

Losing Ronaldo will just mean United have to dig a little deeper into their pockets for a replacement.

Could this negatively impact our pulling power in the market? As it's a definite signal we aren't building for any kind of immediate success. At least with Ronaldo here, that illusion existed.
I really don’t think so. I’m not a young professional footballer looking for a club, but let’s face it, Ronaldo is way past his best. Us clinging to him seems to say we acknowledge we are the same.

We’re like an old bird in a club showing young lads pics of what we used to look like.

Looking and laughing?

If clubs are interested, it will be very interesting to see if he leaves to play regular football, or sits here and continues to collect a wage.

The likes Pereira and get more stick than Jones, for some bizarre reason, even though he goes on loan to play elsewhere.

The ebb and flow of being a football fan. At the start of today everything was looking up. FDJ looked like it was imminent, there were positive signs about this Martinez chap. Fast forward to the end of the day and Ronaldo has asked to leave and Laporta saying they have no intention of selling FDJ.

Quite a roller coaster of a day

At the end of the day I want players who want to be at the football club. I will always love Ronnie but if he wants out then let him go (has to be abroad though)

Same applies to De Jong. If he doesn't really want to come to us then forget him. We went down that road with Di Maria and it was a total disaster. He came for the wrong reasons and managed 1 season with us.

Half a god damn window with rumours about Frenkie meanwhile only income seems to be a LB of which we already have 2. Absolute farce of a summer window so far.

What's embarrassing is the naive fans, calling John Murtough Don when he's proven absolutely nothing. There's an argument to made that Woodward is the better of the two despite his abysmal record he still has more experience. It's been a shocking summer off one of the worst season's since United have been in the Premier League.

That’s what I’ve been saying, last season he had 3 other strikers at the start of the season this year he’s got none and at soon to be 38 he’s bound to be wondering what’s going on. Anyone who’s ever played in a football team would understand this..

We had some hope that with Ralf in advisory role maybe something could be different but with him gone there's really 0 change. Glazer puppets in every important role.

While I agree that it's too early to judge Murtough and proclaim him a savior, Woodward failed for 9 years. Experience is valuable when you learn from your mistakes. Woodward didn't.

Realistically, what would he be happy with? He's super unlikely to get another year after this coming season, let alone as some sort of talisman. That means no CL. It doesn't matter what we do in the market this summer, it's going to be a while before we're up to speed and can mount a serious title challenge. Hitting +80 points would likely be enough for 3rd, 4th at the very least, but hardly titillating for Ronnie. Would a Europa League win make him all that pleased?

This really is the time to make a change. He wants to leave so he's not being pushed, and we can go out and buy someone who will fit into ETH's style of play.

This could explain why he’s only kicking up a fuss now and not at the beginning of the window.
Most of the other stuff today has been about him wanting to compete in the Champions League, which we can't.

What that tweet could indicate is "someone" or someone in their camp leaking something to the press to make it look like it's not their fault, pushing any focus and illwill on to the club, because let's face it, people love to hear the club is shit and to blame for everything.

He threw a massive strop because he got substituted in a game we were leading 2-0 against Brentford, what does he want 3 other strikers for? This is just PR spin.

He also played brilliant and linked up with Cavani against Spurs. You need strikers to win games and good ones.

That was 1 game where we played 3-5-2, we're going to play 1 striker next season and he will expect it to be him in every game (maybe he can sack off the odd Europa League or League Cup tie). I'm sure he wants a better squad, we all do, but not at the expense of his game time and this, like all the stuff about how he loves the club but wants Champions League football, just looks like Mendes putting the most positive spin on things.

Ronaldo going is good for us. Means we have to go for a forward now. It is like the Ruud leaving and Saha stepping up situation to me without us having a Saha yet.
We also don't have a young Ronaldo and Rooney...the situations are not comparable at all.

I really think our hands were forced by Ronaldo. It was either sign him or watch him go to City, lose the club legend story and all the merchandises sold around him.

I would go as far as to say a whole host of issues were caused by signing Ronaldo including:
The captaincy issue with Maguire, The disappearing act of Cavani, the sacking of Ole and to an extent some of Martial's issues.
The Ole one sounds odd because he himself play well for the most part. Issue is there was no team spirit after Ronaldo came in.
I am actually grateful it cost Ole his job because if not for this, it would have been another mediocre top finish 4 where Ole gets to keep his job then rinse and repeat.

Hope he goes. Problem is where though? We would want it to be outside the EPL. Also can we get a replacement? I have a funny feeling we were banking on having him for one more year and haven't prepared a replacement.

I agree, bringing Ronaldo back was a big mistake for us.
I wouldn't mind involving him in a swap deal with Bayern Munich for Gnabry, it could turn this particular potential train wreck into a win - win.

Bayern bought Mane to play as a 9. Don't see them being interested in Ronaldo. I'm open to being proven wrong but I don't see it.

You're probably right, I would still like us to consider a bid for Gnabry though, I read something about him wanting out and only a year left on his contract.
United have ample time to get in forwards, 2 months of the window left. Don't believe this 'Ronaldo has let us down and it's too late to replace him' spin. If the will is there we can replace him.

He said EXACTLY the same thing about Messi last summer:
In 2021 he said:
Laporta: 'Messi wants to stay at Barça and we must make sure he does'

We are in the process of getting Messi to stay. He wants to stay at Barça and we have to make sure that happens.

We all want Messi in La Liga because he is a world class player, the best in the world, and he clearly helps to promote the league. I know Leo wants to stay and appreciate that highly. Everything is very much on the right track.
